Thank you so much everyone for your warmth, patience, and understanding when the strip was delayed by traveling to my grandmotherβs funeral. All of your comments and kind condolences were a comfort to read throughout this weekend. Thank you. It was a really nice thing to check in during those days to this site and the GoComics site and read so much love for my family.
Ooh! Little Miss Beatrix, you are in trouble now! Baba Mouse is not about to let you get in over your head!
Beatrix blushing is adorable! And everyone else worrying about her… Too cute (though I feel their pain, she should not be messing with Old Wicket)!
I am so inclined to agree with you on best yet. The poofy cat hair on all 3, the Baba Mouse action to keep Bea out of trouble and her face in the last frame. Yeah.
Some GoComics readers were a little anxious seeing a politics joke–but I promise, to you and anyone reading, to keep “real” politics out of BCN. Though, I very nearly had a political race between the Man and the Woman over who would fill the food bowls and be elected “chief food giver.” The main arguments were that the Woman is consistently on time, but the Man offers more treats. And then our election in the states heated up and I worried that folks would read more into the jokes than were meant… Maybe one day, off election season, we’ll have something light and fun like that! For now, this is very much just how the dogs and cats view each other. I like feeling like Beatrix went away from home and her first real world friend is a dog and it concerns her cat family, lol!
Yes, please have the “election” at some point – I love the premise. I also understand 100% why you would want to wait until after the general election.
Luvit! “Who’s got four thumbs and loves to climb?”
And when Baba Mouse scruffs her, we get a really good look at how small Bea really is, especially since Baba herself isn’t the biggest cat.
(that’s probably Tommy followed by Burt)
Georgia, just found out about your grandmother’s passing on. Please accept my condolencesβand for goodness sake don’t worry about delays caused by such personally important events, whatever they are. In any event, this strip arrived just in time, as far as I’m concerned, and I managed not to spray coffee all over my monitor and keyboard. Absolutely love the last panel! Took five minutes to type this correctly! I hope it cheered you up as much as it has me.
I feel bad for Trevor. He’s worried and wants to protect Beatrix; but is torn by his wish that she has her freedom and chance to learn. Tough choices for a sensitive fellow.
Baba Mouse on the other paw…. Motherly wisdom wins over kittenish confidence. *whew!* Had me worried.
Maybe Baba will give Bea a cup of tea, some cookies, and some well-needed advice about the world.
Even Lupin’s tail is at alert. Burt and Trevor stand by, trying to calm the CN crew, while trusting Baba Mouse and the robber mice gals to take care of things. The ladies know Wicked Wicket’s weakness. Beatrix hyping herself up like Lois Lane: Baba Mouse with the firm hold on both reality and Beatrix!
I LOVE Bea’s kitten enthusiasm for running off into the unknown! And Baba Mouse is one queen who’s raised a few kittens in her time and is taking no Brainless Kitten Nonsense from any little fuzzball. We had a Designated Mama Cat like that, no kittens of her own that we knew of but she was the BEST with every kitten who came along. I don’t know what we’ll do when we get another kitten, it’s been so long since we’ve had to deal with all that Kitten Nonsense with no Dozer assistance…
As you go through the cycle of mourning your Grandmother and the usual self-examination that comes from such a loss, I just wanted to take the time to “Thank you.” Thank you for bringing such joy into my life (and the lives of many others) each week. Thank you for sharing the stories of your wonderful boys and the other fur-friends who have touched your life.
So when you are a Grandmother and you look back on your life-well-lived, please remember all the happiness you spread.
At Sue Rollinson, I think the 4 thumbs refers to extra digits Bea has. She’s a polydactyl kitten.
I love Baba grabbing Bea from potential danger from Wicked Wicket—And Bea’s red cheeks!
Georgia, glad you are back, I’m still praying for you and family. . . . .Love Baba picking up Bea. On Twitter Baba says ‘ Type at you later!’ I LOVE that! LOL! Can Puck’s poof get any bigger?
I was re-reading the boys’ report on which books are the best to sleep on, when I noticed that the “stock picture” of Mouse and Wicket was on the cover of “The Owl and the Pussycat”! I’m sure I’m not the first one to notice that, but I was excited to see it!
Cats aren’t anarchists. Sure they don’t think you should be in charge of them, but they do think they should be in charge of you when it comes to treats and dinner decisions.
I want to see Elvis and Trevor talk politics more!!
It might get ruff! (Sorry)
Georgia, I’m deeply sorry for your loss. Today, I cried a bit at
A seminar in college when I mention how my grandma inspired me. But
After the lecture, I walked across the street and for the first time since May,
I visited her, and let her know her house and her cats are doing fine.
Your grandma, her hopes, and beliefs will live on in your heart..
Much to think about in terms of pet political affiliations. Dogs, liberal? Cats, conservative?
Never thought of that before. Thanks for a blissful comic tale.
Blushing Beatrix is cute, but can anything get more adorable than poofy Puck?
And dear Elvis, do everything he can to protect Beatrix! “Can’t you go rescue her?! Isn’t that what dogs do?!” Fair questions. Where would Timmy be if Lassie didn’t tell him what to do? Stuck down in the well, that’s where!
I confess, I wasn’t expecting the plot to go this way. With Beatrix stating that she is a Puss In Boots girl, I was expecting her to fall into Wicket’s clutches and then save herself by her wits. But this is soooooooooo much better!
Am I the only one who has no idea why everyone’s so worried? It’s not like Wicker has a reputation for attacking cats, and I don’t think Beatrix is likely to fall in love with him after Baba Mouse’s story..
Isn’t the phrase “liberal dog nonsense” a bit redundant? We all know anything involving those kanine kritters is nonsense. (No offense intended: Trevor is an honorary — or, given his background perhaps that should be spelt ‘honourary’ — cat afterall).
Georgia – so very sorry about the loss of your grandmother. π Please accept my heartfelt condolences. I miss my grandparents greatly but relish all the memories I have of them.
And thank you so much for doing your beautiful work at this tough time!! Can’t tell you how much it brightens the day!!
Many hugs and thank you’s…..!
Dear Georgia: Welcome back. I’m so glad you were able to make the trip “back home” to be with your people during such a sad yet special time. The passing of a dearly loved elder is difficult, but truly is the natural order of things and we can only be grateful of the time we had together and are able to cherish all the memories and wisdom they left with us. Hugs.
If not for Baba Mouse, Bea would certainly have started climbing by now. And if she needed rescuing, would we subsequently see Puck (who is “the best climber, but does not compete”) leading the assault?
The age-long feud between cats and dogs: “Conservative cat rhetoric” and “liberal dog nonsense.” *clapping hands* It’s brilliant! Bea’s blush in the last panel is priceless. π Good thing Baba Mouse was watching her!
I love everything about this story, particularly Baba Mouse to the rescue. But I’m thinking Trevor must still be close to puppyhood – anxiety over the snake was the first clue and 2. not understanding that Beatrix was putting her life in danger and that without some kind of interference, things could go very wrong for her. He’s her big brother – damn the politics. I’m hoping these magnificent felines can somehow help Trevor along the way to do what he was born for – protecting the innocent Beatrix from predators and from herself in her baby-like enthusiasms, which would allow both of them to grow into the wisdom of Baba Mouse.
Loved Elvis in the first panel, “isn’t that what dogs do?” but Trevor annoyed me with, “she’s her own cat”. No, she’s not Trevor, she’s a kitten who needs protection until she gets some wisdom. Thankfully, you can always count on the woman in the group to take action!! Go BABA!!!
Beatrix reminded me of Lois Lane too. Thank you, and Rest in Peace Noel Neill.
It’s all been said, but I will echo, I am sorry for your loss. I am sure she will remain with you and you will carry the memory of her to your children in stories. By the by, better to be saved by the scruff of the neck then taken to lunch by the Owl.
Love all of this! Especially the old momma cat grabbing that youngster by the scruff so she can chill. Watch and learn young lady! Baba will take care of that birdbrain. feather duster!! πππ
Beatrix’s blushing is priceless! BTW, is her name pronounced Bee-A-trix, BEE-trix, or some other way? I say Bee-A-trix. Please correct me, if necessary!
I liked the political swipe swipe. I do not have a problem with differing views; where I get disgusted is when each side dismisses by labels. I am somewhat of a conservative cat, but I still howl, too.
I think the Man and Woman faux-election would have been hilarious.
This arc is full of possibilities. I can see how the Evil Author could easily deliberately mislead us Trusting Readers with twists. For example, Wicket might turn out not to be Wicked after all. Here is some valuable reference material — http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/KansasCityShuffle — not that it will help.
This is definitely turning out to be one of the best BCN arcs.
Ha! Ha! Last panel so funny, love the blushing cheeks
Yay! Baba Mouse to the rescue!!
it’s the PUFFINATION at the BCN anchor desk!
And now to we go live to Beatrix!
I’m so sorry for your loss Georgia.
All my best wishes for you and yours.
Continued best wishes from all of us humans and cats.
Everything I said last time
Trevor is such a good dog…
He really is. He’s so respectful!
Love the puffy boys! And thank goodness for Baba Mouse!
First, I hope your grandmother’s funeral was beautiful and full of the love that she obviously shared with you.
Second- this strip is perfect. Go Baba Mouse! Also, I need a print of Beatrix in that next to last panel!
All the poofs!
Glad you are back, Georgia. Keeping you and your family in my prayers.
And the mother takes care of it.
Everybody’s poofy, except Lupin (and Beatrix of course.)
Lupin’s tail is poofy!
Go Baba Mouse! Rescue that baby kitty.
Georgia, I hope your trip home was healing
Did y’all see Twitter?
B-Trix taking a break. She will type at u later. –Baba
Love the Twitter updates!
Yes, the @BCN Twitter account is awesome! Nice to hear from Baba today. π
I was wondering if Baba Mouse was going to get involved. And have a fantasy of Freddie’s ghost showing up for the showdown with Wicket.
Ooh! Little Miss Beatrix, you are in trouble now! Baba Mouse is not about to let you get in over your head!
Beatrix blushing is adorable! And everyone else worrying about her… Too cute (though I feel their pain, she should not be messing with Old Wicket)!
Welcome back and hugs to you all xx And what a return! This is lovely, especially the extreme poofiness and the last panel π
This is one of the best episodes yet! Yah Baba Mouse! Scruff that cute kitten with the red cheeks!
I am so inclined to agree with you on best yet. The poofy cat hair on all 3, the Baba Mouse action to keep Bea out of trouble and her face in the last frame. Yeah.
First, my condolences to you and your family Georgia. Now. GO BABA MOUSE!!!!
Lupin’s tail is poofed. And Beatrix is red with embarrassment. LOL
Baba Mouse to the rescue! So cool. Thank you Georgia. Keeping you in my prayers.
YAY BABA MOUSE! Baba Mouse to the rescue! Owls *eat* kittens.
Speaking of politics, I keep reading Beatrix as Bretrix, politics overload I think, thank goodness for BCN
Yes, please have the “election” at some point – I love the premise. I also understand 100% why you would want to wait until after the general election.
Baba Mouse is the best!
So glad to have you back and hope that you and your family are healing and thinking of wonderful memories.
I ADORE puffy Puck! Just so cute.
Glad Baba Mouse grabbed Bea… I figured she would set her straight!
they don’t like each other, but Elvis and Trevor have exchanged phone numbers (for Beatrix’s sake, obvy)
That’s really touching, isn’t it, and just below the radar at a casual glance.
one the rewards of a second (third, fourth) reading!
Oh My Cat!!!!
Poofy Lupin, poofier Elvis, poofiest Puck! Panels 3 & 4…LOL at the symmetry
Excited Bea, then red faced Bea…Mouse to the rescue!
Truly outstanding!
Well worth the wait. Thank you Georgia.
Luvit! “Who’s got four thumbs and loves to climb?”
And when Baba Mouse scruffs her, we get a really good look at how small Bea really is, especially since Baba herself isn’t the biggest cat.
(that’s probably Tommy followed by Burt)
I think you’re right on that.

Maybe Baba will give Bea a cup of tea, some cookies, and some well-needed advice about the world.
(Glad y’all are home safe.)
Including a deep distrust of the vacuum!
PUFFY BOYS! BLUSHING BEATRICE! BABA TAKING CHARGE! WHOO HOO!
So glad Baba Mouse is on the spot to keep Beatrix from making a scary mistake! Could she be a very-great granddaughter of Mouse, too, Georgia?
Even Lupin’s tail is at alert. Burt and Trevor stand by, trying to calm the CN crew, while trusting Baba Mouse and the robber mice gals to take care of things. The ladies know Wicked Wicket’s weakness. Beatrix hyping herself up like Lois Lane: Baba Mouse with the firm hold on both reality and Beatrix!

Would Beatrix have thumbs on her back paws?
Bea is a polydactyl with extra thumbs!
oh i love the last panel of baba picking up beatrix
I need a print or mug with Miss Star Reporter on it. Also the excited Bea please!
As you go through the cycle of mourning your Grandmother and the usual self-examination that comes from such a loss, I just wanted to take the time to “Thank you.” Thank you for bringing such joy into my life (and the lives of many others) each week. lovely words. π
Go, Baba Mouse! And all the POOFY boys – poor Pucky, just going “no no no no”!!!!
Nice scruffing by Baba Mouse. We’ve always called the fur standing up thing “getting fluffy.”. E. g. ” Puck really got fluffy. “
The wisdom of age comes to the rescue of the naivetΓ© of youth. What a wonderful tribute to you own beloved grandmother and to all our grandmothers.
Oh my cat. I was in panic mode till the last pannel.
Go Bubba!!!
At Sue Rollinson, I think the 4 thumbs refers to extra digits Bea has. She’s a polydactyl kitten.
I love Baba grabbing Bea from potential danger from Wicked Wicket—And Bea’s red cheeks!
(laughs) I guess the game, Coming Out On Top, lied to me when they said cats are anarchists (and some nihilists).
Much love … And Liberal Dog nonsense / Conservative Cat Rhetoric are perfect for a coffee cup. π
Georgia, glad you are back, I’m still praying for you and family. . . . .Love Baba picking up Bea. On Twitter Baba says ‘ Type at you later!’ I LOVE that! LOL! Can Puck’s poof get any bigger?
Will we ever see, perhaps in flashbacks, the introduction/reunion of Beatrix and Trevor?
Hi cat,
I think we saw the first meeting of Trevor and Bea-the strip where Trevor mentions how Burt is a calming influence on him, and that he fears snakes.
I’ve been like Elvis since Thursday.
I see I’m not the only one who would lobe to see the faces/reactions of Beatrix and Trevor when they realized they were going to be store mates.
@Louise: Speaking of coffee mugs, that last panel would look great on one! =^..^=
I love Beatrix going from demure to excited to giddy in panels 5-7.
I was re-reading the boys’ report on which books are the best to sleep on, when I noticed that the “stock picture” of Mouse and Wicket was on the cover of “The Owl and the Pussycat”! I’m sure I’m not the first one to notice that, but I was excited to see it!
May your Grandmother ‘s memory always be a blessing.
And I bet Baba Mouse would catch the red dot, should she be so moved.
Cats aren’t anarchists. Sure they don’t think you should be in charge of them, but they do think they should be in charge of you when it comes to treats and dinner decisions.
Puffiness overload!!!!
Baba mouse to the rescue!!
I want to see Elvis and Trevor talk politics more!!
It might get ruff! (Sorry)

she just learned a very important thing, do not mess with a momma cat πΊ
Much to think about in terms of pet political affiliations. Dogs, liberal? Cats, conservative?
Never thought of that before. Thanks for a blissful comic tale.
I figured it would be the other way around with cats being liberal and dogs being conservative.
Maybe she did “Conservative cats” for the alliteration.
LOVE Beatrix, LOVE the poofy boys . . . and in panel one, am I the only one hearing Puck as that innertube cat saying “no no no no no” ?
Blushing Beatrix is cute, but can anything get more adorable than poofy Puck?
And dear Elvis, do everything he can to protect Beatrix! “Can’t you go rescue her?! Isn’t that what dogs do?!” Fair questions. Where would Timmy be if Lassie didn’t tell him what to do? Stuck down in the well, that’s where!

Georgia, I hope the funeral was everything a funeral should be. And I’m enjoying the current storyline, but I’m a little concerned.
Is the June Bug going to make an appearance again this year?
I am so glad Baba Mouse saved her. I love the puffiness in the first panel π
I don’t think I have ever seen Puck so puffy!! Love it! Glad that Baba Mouse has come to save the day!
Georgia – so very sorry about the loss of your grandmother. π Please accept my heartfelt condolences. I miss my grandparents greatly but relish all the memories I have of them.
And thank you so much for doing your beautiful work at this tough time!! Can’t tell you how much it brightens the day!!

I hadn’t thought about it, but Trevor does seem somewhat inexperienced for a Border Collie. He probably still a puppy.
I am pleased to report that Larry the cat will be staying in post at no.10 – to maintain some sort of order, sense has prevailed π
Baba is grabbing the back of Bea’s jacket with her teeth. Just like a mama cat grabbing her kittens by the neck.
Just noticed the pics of Trevor & Elvis on their phones, very nicely drawn & painted Georgia!
It’s all been said, but I will echo, I am sorry for your loss. I am sure she will remain with you and you will carry the memory of her to your children in stories. By the by, better to be saved by the scruff of the neck then taken to lunch by the Owl.
YOu are never so big that you can’t be grabbed by the scruff, young lady
Yay! Rescued by Baba Mouse
Beatrix caught red-cheeked is classic. What a hoot! (Sorry, I couldn’t resist — okay, I could have, but I chose not to!!) hee, hee!
Love all of this! Especially the old momma cat grabbing that youngster by the scruff so she can chill. Watch and learn young lady! Baba will take care of that birdbrain. feather duster!! πππ
Puff levels so high, it’s like John Green in cat form
How poofy does Puck get anyway?
So sorry to hear of your Grandmother’s passing, Georgia.
Beatrix’s blushing is priceless! BTW, is her name pronounced Bee-A-trix, BEE-trix, or some other way? I say Bee-A-trix. Please correct me, if necessary!
It is pronounced “Bee-trix.” π
I’m glad you had a safe trip. Someone you love never really dies as long as you remember them.
This is a great story and I’m enjoying it a lot.
I liked the political swipe swipe. I do not have a problem with differing views; where I get disgusted is when each side dismisses by labels. I am somewhat of a conservative cat, but I still howl, too.

This is definitely turning out to be one of the best BCN arcs.
It does sound like Wicket may be short of breath. hmmm
Yup. I meant the point where the Bookstore Woman brings Bea home and Bea and Trevor realize they’re already friends from The Wall.
