I hope everyone is enjoying the Christmas special so far! We’re halfway through, only four more parts until Christmas! I also wanted to let everyone know that this is the 75th ‘Breaking Cat News’ strip!!! Thank you so much for reading, here’s to many more!
I can guarantee I’ll keep reading as long as you keep posting!
As for this strip, there are too many things I can go on and on about so I’m forcing myself to limit it to only one. Panel 4. Oh, my heart just broke. I was immediately back to the times I’ve been in the same situation – whether it was an inside cat that got out or one of the ferals I care for that hasn’t shown up. Bending down to put out a plate of food while looking in to the darkness for any sign of the missing. The sadness and worry of “I hope you’re ok” can be almost more than one can bear. Fortunately, in this case, we know Elvis is in Tommy’s fat little paws and will be just fine. 🙂
Elvis is in good paws!
“Is the box not small enough?”
“Oh no it’s impossibly tiny thank you”…
MOL
Concats on your 75th strip; we love them and look forward to many more 😀 X
Aw, gee, you are soooooo good at this! LOLing at Lupin climbing the ‘Vegas fir’ and “Elvis always did like food.” Then almost in tears at Tommy’s being lost, “Don’t you have any people?” Tommy’s upbeat attitude in spite of his situation reminds me of a character in War and Peace (bet you haven’t heard that before): the peasant that befriends and helps Pierre when they are trekking across winter Russia as prisoners of Napoleon’s army. (The character is included in the movie version starring Audrey Hepburn if you don’t have time to re-read the book 😉 )
Aside from the wonderful content, just wanted to say I really love the coloring on this strip. Everything in chez Tommy is gorgeous, but panel 20 is probably the most beautiful color you’ve done to date. Too bad you already made your Christmas cards…
Favorite exchange this time for me:
Tommy: “Is the box not small enough?”
Elvis: “Oh no, it’s impossibly tiny – thank you…”
Can’t wait for the next installment!!
The only thing that cleared up all the dust that was suddenly getting in my eyes while I was reading was “Oh no, it’s impossibly tiny – thank you,” and that last panel of angry Lupin and the lovely tiny image of Puck pouring a cup of coffee.
You really are a wonderfully talented visual storyteller, Ms. Dunn – truly tuned in to feline sensibilities!
I read the strip to my wife as she was driving home, and now she wants to adopt Tommy and be one of his People! But the real-life Tommy does have People, right?
He does, but they will love to hear that someone out there loves him enough to be looking out for him! (His People do many rescues, and his Woman even works at a local cat shelter!)
Poor Elvis missing his brofurs, but so lucky to have found a friend. Tommy must have been so lonely all this time, my heart breaks for him ……. so sad sob, sob 🙁
Georgia, I’ve been a dedicated BCN “viewer” since your profile in Catster in early June. BCN and the “behind the scenes” info on your site really boosted my spirits as I nursed my “soulmate kitty” through terminal illness and said goodbye a few months ago. I’ve just been adopted by two shelter kitties. The overly-friendly is now Tommy and his sweet red-headed brother is Georgie, after our favorite artist-cat whisperer 🙂 Happy Holidays and THANK YOU!
Okay, I may have started crying as I read this comment, for your soulmate kitty, then happy you got shelter kitties, and then I full out lost it at the names. Thank you so much, I am so glad BCN could be there for you during that time, and thrilled for the new kitties in your life! And honored for the names 🙂 Happy holidays to you, Tommy, Georgie, and yours!
Hmmm. The pink house in the previous strip … “you’re closer to home than you think “… and Tommy said they were BFFs – Backyard Friends Forever! I’m starting to feel better for Elvis. Now if that overcoat that Tommy is sleeping on meets my suspicions, a very happy ending indeed!
I have loved every one of the 75 and am crazy about the cats and their humans. Keep making people smile and maybe love their own cats a little bit more.
Happy 75th!!! Congratulations on 75 total winners, each somehow better than the last. I don’t know how you do it – I am so utterly in awe of your many talents – and I am over the moon with gratitude that you are sharing with us all. You bring such joy to my little corner of the world.
I can’t wait till the Monday installment! My heart goes out to all the kitties and people concerned in the story. I would be going crazy if my indoor only cat got out and became lost. Hoping, hoping, hoping Tommy finds his home and remains that forever friend.
Oh. Em. Gee, Georgia! I took a chance on reading this while supervising a program at my library. Now two children have come up saying, “Miss Elizabeth? Are you getting a cold?” I hope this ends with Tommy finding his way back to his People or to a forever home!!!
This whole page is too precious for words, from Tommy sharing everything he has with Elvis (it always seems like there’s more when you share), to his tragic backstory, to the kitties at home doing their best.
But I think the best part is laid back Puck getting a little more “wired” in that last panel. That is one kitty determined to stay awake.
Oh my goodness, oh the feels! Congrats on 75 wonderful, wonderful comics. Thank you for sharing them with us. BCN is the only reason I look forward to Mondays, and I love the late week catch up. *posts a huge box of tissues for everyone who needs one*
i keep waiting for the comment about him missing, among other things, being called ‘good boy’ , and don’t see one…..my jackson thinks his name is ‘who’s a good boy’?…..wonderful work!
Georgia congrats on the 75th strip and thanks for tugging at my heartstrings with Tommy’s story! I gave my cat Mac who looks like him extra hugs (he’s a rescue cat) after reading that and I’m glad the real cats are all happy, safe and loved!
as always, what a wonderful bcn post, ..congratulations on 75th, and good wishes from our house to yours. I’m wondering, tommy’s bed is a coat like his persons…a clue mayhap? hmmm. that tommy, oh indeed, what a fine fellow. and that last panel…bwaaah…little lost boykin.
Oh my gosh!! The fact that tommy is lost and people are looking for him but can’t find him is breaking my heart! I loved tommy since his first appearing in BCN and now I am so crying about his destiny. He is awesome, kind and very friendly cat and I just can’t stand, it’s so unfair that he is not with his family now. in my eyes he is a hero. I wish he will find his family by Christmas !
Since 1985 when we had our first cat, a kitten who wandered our from home near us in Overland Park KS neighborhood, came up our side walk.
My wife was very allergic to cats, but we took the kitten in and never let her out to roam. No serious allergy when cat was kept in the home. Peaches never wanted to get out. But 2nd cat, Meeka, we adopted from a Vet, would get out if frightened. Very emotional situation for me. But she stayed on the property and eventually was coaxed back in.
We had a Red Tabby hanging around our neighborhood, Very friendly Cat, I told my daughter it was a tom so she called him Tommy. He just stopped showing up, My daughter still misses him.
It appears that Elvis saw the poster for the lost Tommy. Tommy gets Elvis home, and the people and/or the BCN team get Tommy home for Christmas!!!
A friend’s cat just died, and I have and older boy, who I worry about. Hugs to everyone.
A year ago I took Ebony to the vet, sever miles from home. She managed to escape her carrier and ran away. I searched and searched but had to give up when I became ill and was taken into hospital and my baby was born early. I almost gave up but, in mid January someone found her and we brought her home. She even forgave us for acquiring a baby in her absence.
Reading this feeling thankful that she is safe this year, even if she did claw my foot this morning, and wishing for a happy ending.
Please, contunue the story!
I wish every cat and other pet have loving families.
I found my lovely cat Ktusha at the first floor of our house. He was lost. Nobody was looking for him. And he is my cat now 🙂 We live in Moscow 🙂
Then my boyfriend found a little black kitty in Tula (he is from Tula, its Russian city not very far from Moscow) and we are happy owners of two amazing cats 🙂 The secand one is called Chernysh, It means Blacky.
No worries at all, I think what you were trying to say came through very well! I’m JUST about to post the next part, it should be up in the next 20 minutes! Thank you so much for reading, Nina, hello from America!
Congratulations on your 75th strip! Each of them are gems in their own right. And thank you so much for giving us these wonderful characters and their stories.
Every time I was about to cry over this strip, you then made me laugh. It makes my heart hurt for all the lost kitties out there, but I know that eventually Elvis and Tommy will be alright. *sniff*
I’ve scaled the Vegas tree. 🙂
I love tommy. HE IS SO CUTE!!!!!
And he gave Elvis his coat!
Well at least now Elvis is warm, but I hope he gets home soon.
I hope everyone is enjoying the Christmas special so far! We’re halfway through, only four more parts until Christmas! I also wanted to let everyone know that this is the 75th ‘Breaking Cat News’ strip!!! Thank you so much for reading, here’s to many more!

I’m absolutely loving the Christmas Special! Your characterization, art, and humor are all wonderful. My love and best wishes for you and the boys!
Thank you, Kasi!
*gasp* ONLY FOUR MORE?!?!?!?!?!?!
This is so sad. 🙁
Is it possible that if Tommy is able to help Elvis make it home that maybe, just maybe, Tommy might find his “forever home?”
My face lights up when I see that there’s a new BCN. So funny–he always liked food! and so touching to see those memory traces of Tommy’s.
Man: “Why are they so wired tonight?!”
*Puck pours himself yet another cup of coffee…*
Love the last panel 🙂 Why are they so wired, indeed?
“it’s impossibly tiny”
I love the last panel, “why are they so wired?” With the coffee being poured in the background xxx
“I sleep on this old overcoat! My Woman had one just like it!”
Right in the feels…
I have a theory about where they are. 🙂
Elvis is in good paws!
“Is the box not small enough?”
“Oh no it’s impossibly tiny thank you”…

Dunn, I am AT WORK. You CANNOT be ripping my heart out with Tommy’s story like this.
It is very inconsiderate. There should be a warning label and a box of tissues provided.
Congratulations on your 75th BCN strip! I personally have enjoyed each and every one 🙂 so very glad I discovered it!
Aside from the wonderful content, just wanted to say I really love the coloring on this strip. Everything in chez Tommy is gorgeous, but panel 20 is probably the most beautiful color you’ve done to date. Too bad you already made your Christmas cards…
Thank you, Serena! I will admit, I was wishing I had waited to add a traffic cone tree to the cards last night. 🙂
Next year!

Thank you, Aimz!! 😀
I love this strip! Thank you for brightening my days with it!
I love the cats on this site.

I’m with you Jan. 🙂 I have faith both our boys will be home for the holidays.
Lupin keeping up the Christmas tree tradition in spite of the emergency “Just gotta toss some junk out of the way”.
Gosh, this strip is so popular now that not a single detail goes unnoticed by your fans. Congrats on your 75! Every one has been a joy.
Thank you, Wisteria!
Puck pouring the coffee in the last panel is the perfect bit of sweetness to balance the sad bits…
Georgia, more than enjoying… loving it! I love that Lupin ended up in the tree just like the instagram picture you posted this week!
There’s a BCN instagram?!?!?!
There is! The username is “Breakingcatnews” and I post photos of the boys and a little of our daily life on it! 🙂
Ok, this may be the push I need to try out Instagram!
Panel 7 – a definition of homelessness, but I love the way Tommy hangs his mittens up to dry and Elvis in Tommy’s jacket, so sweet yet so funny x
Emotional roller coaster. Nuff said xxx 🙂
Sad Elvis in that second to last panel broke me. Sniffle…
So many tears of sadness and joy in this episode, group hug around the world everyone (that includes you Elvis) xxx
#HeartBreakingCatNews
I have loved every one of the 75 and am crazy about the cats and their humans. Keep making people smile and maybe love their own cats a little bit more.
More like HeartBreaking Cat News! 🙁 But I love it. 🙂

Thank you so much, Donna!
I love Tommy and the president of his pretend fan club!!!!!!!!!
I can’t wait till the Monday installment! My heart goes out to all the kitties and people concerned in the story. I would be going crazy if my indoor only cat got out and became lost. Hoping, hoping, hoping Tommy finds his home and remains that forever friend.
Georgia, I’m going to start crying any minute now… THIS CHRISTMAS SPECIAL HAD BETTER HAVE A HAPPY ENDING TTATT
Oh. Em. Gee, Georgia! I took a chance on reading this while supervising a program at my library. Now two children have come up saying, “Miss Elizabeth? Are you getting a cold?” I hope this ends with Tommy finding his way back to his People or to a forever home!!!

I so love your avatar and I share everyone feelings towards poor Tommy, I’ll be your mummy Tommy.
@lalita that’s my now passed resuce cat George. He was a big love!
This is great! I love that you’re getting to expand and do a bit more storytelling. 🙂
oh I’m so worry about Elvis!
poor little boy!
as always, what a wonderful bcn post, ..congratulations on 75th, and good wishes from our house to yours. I’m wondering, tommy’s bed is a coat like his persons…a clue mayhap? hmmm. that tommy, oh indeed, what a fine fellow. and that last panel…bwaaah…little lost boykin.
next to the last….and oh, tommys comment, “i did once, but you’ve seen how that goes”….gosh, he is such a sweet soul.
Rats! Now I’m hoping that outside kitty also gets home to his people who miss him!
Oh my gosh!! The fact that tommy is lost and people are looking for him but can’t find him is breaking my heart! sorry for terrible English
No worries at all, I think what you were trying to say came through very well! I’m JUST about to post the next part, it should be up in the next 20 minutes! Thank you so much for reading, Nina, hello from America!
Georgia, Thanks a lot for your drawing and your breaking cat news ))) Cats are international !!! (I am serious and joking 🙂 )
The next part of story is so kind :))) Elvis is home now 🙂
Congratulations on your 75th strip! Each of them are gems in their own right. And thank you so much for giving us these wonderful characters and their stories.
Every time I was about to cry over this strip, you then made me laugh. It makes my heart hurt for all the lost kitties out there, but I know that eventually Elvis and Tommy will be alright. *sniff*
Tommy’s story is reminding me of John Candy’s character, Del Griffith, from “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles”
And the “wired” punchline being Puck with a pot of coffee. Genius.
