I’m sorry for the late post today. I had some technical difficulties with my computer, that thankfully the Man fixed for me! And so, here is part six, a little late at night! Hopefully the timing of an October evening post works with this one? I hope. I’m sorry! Thank you so much, always, for your patience.
What ? Ms. Georgia Dunn, no need to apologize. You are providing this wonderful material free of charge and although I eagerly anticipated it, worth the wait as always.
I don’t believe Lupin ever had a chance to see her. She was in the room with Elvis and Puck when Lupin was in the anchor room, and then in the anchor room after Lupin left to be a cat of adventure.
What a treat, just as I sat down to the kitchen table after putting dinner on the stove for a break, while listening to music from the 90’s (the 1690’s) your post popped up. A nice pre dinner treat.
LOVE Figaro’s and Lupin’s eyes in last panel! Apparently they don’t have trouble seeing a human ghost! And who is that pale little figure in panel 12? Between the woman and her neighbor? Another little cat ghost in a round little bonnet?
That “pale little figure” is the same as the figure in the last panel, who I assume is Freddie, and she’s repeatedly spelling out “C-A-T” on the board (notice her ghostly hands on the pointer), because she’s looking for her cat, who I naturally assume to be Tillie.
Aw, so sweet! Here in Canada we’re all holding our breaths about today’s Federal election (hoping the Conservatives are destroyed, at least in my household) and I began fretting about today’s BCN entry as a way to distract myself from waiting on election results. Which makes your timing perfect, because as Atlantic Canada results started coming in (Libs ahead, whoo-hoo!), today’s strip appeared! So your “timing” was quite excellent for your Northern admirers!
You might, if their humans were oldies fans like me. The idea of subjecting an innocent cat to Milli Vanilli (sorry, that’s the only 90s music I’m really aware of) when you could be introducing them to Three Dog Night, CCR, and the Guess Who strikes me as the worst possible sort of abuse.
How about: “Vogue,” “Gangsta’s Paradise,” “You Oughta Know,” “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” “I Will Always Love You,” “Wonderwall,” “Kiss from a Rose,” “Creep,” “Black Hole Sun”?
The fact that the only 1990s group you could think of was Milli Vanilla isn’t an indictment on ’90s music but your own astounding ignorance.
I’ve heard most of those groups and songs, Thom, and I wouldn’t subject an innocent cat to any them. Or innocent children, (probably why my 20 something kids like oldies.) But I guess if you were a kid in the 90s and weren’t exposed to music from the 50s, 60s or 70s, you would think 90s music was good, especially compared to present day music.
“Astounding ignorance”? There’s no need to hurl insults at anyone.
Each passing decade sees more and more people who are trying to pass off noise as music, and fewer people who possess real musical talent, so it’s perfectly understandable that someone who grew up in one decade wouldn’t want to delve into the popular “music” from the next.
I grew up in the late 80s and early 90s. And yet, out of the list of groups you listed from the 90s, I recognize the names of all but one, but there’s only two of them who I have ever listened to (and Sinead O’Connor actually started out in the 80s), aside from accidentally hearing the other ones at the mall.
And while Whitney Houston’s rendition of “I Will Always Love You” was arguably one of the most popular songs of all of the 90s (and it’s still my own favourite version of the song), it’s worth noting that the same song earned Dolly Parton a Grammy award way back in 1975.
These days there are comparatively few “musicians” who can even play an instrument (and of course there’s Milli Vanilli, who didn’t even sing their own music), whereas 40 & 50 years ago, there were relatively few musicians who DIDN’T play their own music.
Dew: I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s listening to my parents music from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s, and even some from the 40’s. I was even able to impress someone at work when I mentioned how rarely our local radio station (60’s on forward, depending on the time of day) plays draft house music and what a pleasant surprise it was to hear it. I STILL think 90’s music is great.
On my parents’ side of things, they seem to have developed a taste for metal music, enjoying listening to Trans-Siberian Orchestra, not complaining when one of my Metallica CDs is running in the car, and actually purchasing and enjoying the Twisted Sister Christmas CD (my brother and I view that last one as a potential sign of the apocalypse). People are allowed to have varied musical tastes.
I actually prefer classic rock of the 60’s and 70’s, but nothing gets my goat like “LOL THE KIDS THESE DAYS AND THEIR TRASH MUSIC.”
If you think there’s no decent music in an entire ten-year span, I still say the problem is you’re not looking hard enough or you’re too blinded by your own prejudices.
Sionyx, Somehow hearing Twisted Sister singing “O Come All Ye Faithful” sounds a lot like a sign of the apolcalypse! Not quite as obvious a sign as say, hell freezing over, but a sign nonetheless. Another good Christmas CD – nothing at all like Twisted Sister’s “Twisted Christmas” – is Bob Rivers’ “Twisted Christmas”. Same song, with a “twist” – “O Come All Ye Grateful Deadheads”. π π»
Oh, mid-nineties music…It was great indeed! Baba Mouse is even close in age to our Chessie-cat. Long-lost littermates, maybe? π Mousie’s grin is adorable!
And, ladies in the comic…when you’re lookin’ for info on the possible ghost pestering your cats, why decide the ouija board’s not working when the spirit keeps saying “Cat”? And how on earth are things going to go when Lupin and Figaro try to report in about the new visitor…Lupin can’t hear what Freddie’s asking and Figaro can’t understand. I wonder how recently Tillie wandered off.
Dear Lady: when ever you find the time to post your magical work it is fine! I rather like the late posts as I head for the shelter in the dark when normal people are sleeping or feeding the children! When a post is late I don’t feel so left behind! I confess I checked a couple of times on the shelter computer, but the latest breaking news was not there. Breaking shelter news however … two young former mom cats were adopted today because I said yes to a couple who wanted to adopt a cat even tho we were closed on Monday and Tuesday. Love it when that happens and good cats find good homes!
Awesomeness!!! π It was worth getting up in the wee hours for making my husband think I’ve gone totally mad! *lol* And I totally agree with the other ghost cat-dude, the music in the 90s WAS the very best. π
Dear Georgia, you’re never late on my end. I read Go-Comics on Mondays, and your website on Tuesdays….so I actually have 4 days of BCN to look forward to. It took my old computer here almost an hour to download your shelter story….my perseverance paid off. You are one great story teller.
Spooky!!! Gosh, Georgia, no apologies necessary, we understand you have a vey busy life and are eternally grateful for tne time you give us with this most wonderful strip!X
I’m kind of judging The Women here. Things start happening to get their cats all wound up out of nowhere. They find a picture of a girl holding her cat from a box that the original owners had. They pull out the Ouija board (this did make me laugh, I admit) and it keeps spelling C-A-T over and over again and they can’t put some pieces together? Come on, ladies!
In the meantime, Tommy interviewing Mouser was HILARIOUS as was Mouser’s love of 90s music.
So can Lupin and Figaro see Ghost!Freddie despite the fact that, so far, only Puck and Tabitha are able to see Tillie (well, the kids, too)?
The delay is totally understandable, but I will admit to pulling up the website about every five minutes to see if there was a new one yet! So if the traffic for yesterday was unusually high, that’s why! π
Our two cats, Jellicle and Sir Earl Grey, have wide ranging musical tastes. Frnk Sinatra, Lucinda Williams, Judy Collins, and the 3 LOTR soundtracks are current favorites. The are always interested in the whLe sounds inFarewell to Tarwathie. We tend to them as well as The Beatles and the Stones.
Elvis enjoys having Patsy Cline’s “Walkin’ After Midnight” sung to him. I sang it to him often when he was a kitten, and it still gets his little face all sleepy and happy with slow, slow blinks. π
thanks for letting us know it was a computer glitch only and that all is well at your home π
i usually read this at my bed time as my end of day treat but it’s getting kinda scary. that old lady “where’s my cat” gives me goose bumps. our dog sleeps on our bed. should keep all ghosts away.
can we look forward to other holiday specials.
Have they been waiting for each other all these years? Oh, that’s so sad… Freddie grew up into an old lady, and died, never knowing what happened to Tillie? I’m glad the remains were disturbed, and they can finally get back together!
No, I think Tillie only recently left Freddie on a reporting mission to gauge reaction to the ‘new addition’ – Tillie has mentioned several times that she has to ‘get back’ to Freddie. I do think Tillie went missing for a while back in 1913, but they were reunited in life. Probably that always stayed with Freddie so she set up the Quinn cat shelter.
It has just now occurred to me that rather than being shut up in the wall, if the “new addition” was put up by a professional builder, Tillie may have accidentally gone home with them, and only just now managed to find her way back home.
I wonder if the “new addition” Tillie is so excited about is a new addition to the Quinn Cat Shelter?
And I think awgiedawgie may be right about Tillie accidentally going home with the builders, but I think she got home much sooner than just now, like with in a few weeks, just enough to make a lasting impression on a 9 year old about the plight of homeless cats.
26 people years makes a very old cat. My oldest cat now is nine in people yearsβ a mere slip of a girl in comparison. Plus one of unknown age, that could be nine or older. But Iβve had cats that lived over 15 years, and Iβve met some that were over 20.
I’m sorry for the late post today. I had some technical difficulties with my computer, that thankfully the Man fixed for me! And so, here is part six, a little late at night! Hopefully the timing of an October evening post works with this one? I hope. I’m sorry! Thank you so much, always, for your patience.
Don’t let it fash you, lass. That just means the Thursday strip will come much sooner for us.
Ooo…a new face! This is so exciting!
“The music was GREAT!” Bwhahahaha! Hi Freddie!
Curiouser and curiouser.
(Also many cheers for Baba Mouse)
*Cheers for Baba Mouse* Gotta love her taste in music. π
Oh my. Look at those eyes on Lupin & Puck.
That’s not Puck. That’s Figaro
Ah, yes. So it is. My mistake. π
No apologies necessary! And this is getting more awesome by the second. :3
What ? Ms. Georgia Dunn, no need to apologize. You are providing this wonderful material free of charge and although I eagerly anticipated it, worth the wait as always.
Thank you, Martha! <3
Is your computer haunted? Ghosts in the machine perhaps?
Ohhhhh Cliffhanger! Wow*
Better late than never! I love the wide eyes of Figaro and Lupin!
LOVE the looks on the faces of Lupin and Figaro in the last panel!
Eek! They conjured someone up, alright! Tillie, you better go find your person!
I love it! Though I have to disagree with Baba – 80’s music was much better than 90’s!
And late-60s/early-70s was even better! π π π
SPOOOKY!
The music was GREAT in the 90’s!
So Lupin can see Freddie but not Tillie?
I don’t believe Lupin ever had a chance to see her. She was in the room with Elvis and Puck when Lupin was in the anchor room, and then in the anchor room after Lupin left to be a cat of adventure.
Good point.
What a treat, just as I sat down to the kitchen table after putting dinner on the stove for a break, while listening to music from the 90’s (the 1690’s) your post popped up. A nice pre dinner treat.
Spoooooky!
Oh, this is wonderfully gothic. π
LOVE Figaro’s and Lupin’s eyes in last panel! Apparently they don’t have trouble seeing a human ghost! And who is that pale little figure in panel 12? Between the woman and her neighbor? Another little cat ghost in a round little bonnet?
That figure in the middle is Freddie making her initial appearance.
I think the ghost in panel 12 is Freddie, just crouched down so she can reach the pointer-thingy.
The pointer thing is called a planchette, FTR.
It’s the human ghost spelling the message CAT.
That’s the ghost!
That “pale little figure” is the same as the figure in the last panel, who I assume is Freddie, and she’s repeatedly spelling out “C-A-T” on the board (notice her ghostly hands on the pointer), because she’s looking for her cat, who I naturally assume to be Tillie.
This getting good. And whenever you can post is fine with me. Love the last panel. The eyes say it all.
Yay! I adore Baba Mouse and her 90’s grooves.
It’s all ok!! Skeery, Where is My Cat?? Love BCN!!
Yay!!!!! May the outcome be positive!!!!!
Haha, I find it kind of funny that Tillie’s only message was “cat”. Very catlike, really. And the face on Baba Mouse’s face is priceless.
I think that it was Freddie who gave the “cat” message.
It’s Freddie that is spelling out CAT!
Music was better in the 60s
Trueβ¦but you won’t find any (mortal) kitties still around to tell you that. π
Milli Vanilli? Seriously?
How about: Nirvana, Tori Amos, Alanis Morissette, SinΓ©ad O’Connor, Mariah Carey, TLC, Tupac, Barenaked Ladies, Beck, Metallica, Destiny’s Child, Radiohead, Oasis?
How about: “Vogue,” “Gangsta’s Paradise,” “You Oughta Know,” “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” “I Will Always Love You,” “Wonderwall,” “Kiss from a Rose,” “Creep,” “Black Hole Sun”?

Yes, but if Lupin can in fact see Freddie, he can read her lips, just like he does with anyone else.
Ooooh! XD <3 Panel 9
No, it looks like Freddie’s the one manipulating the board game.
Eeek! Getting freaky and sad.
Baba Mouse knows what she’s talking about! I’m so glad a reunion appears to be in order for these apparitions.
Appreciate the seasonal strips. so for valentine day Tommy will get a date with his dream girl?
Dear Lady: when ever you find the time to post your magical work it is fine! Yikes! Never fool around with a Ouija board, you never know WHO you’ll conjure up!
Also, your comics are well worth the wait, so don’t worry about it!
Agreed on the Ouija Board. It’s not for amateurs, despite having been sold as a game.
YEE-OOW! This just all Steven King on us! Somebody’s gonna need some major ear scritches.
Soooo worth the wait! Also, Baba Mouse knows where it’s at.
Shit is getting real!
hahaha, Tommy and Baba’s part, love it!
Awesomeness!!! π It was worth getting up in the wee hours for making my husband think I’ve gone totally mad! *lol* And I totally agree with the other ghost cat-dude, the music in the 90s WAS the very best. π

I’m already quite fond of the old girl myself. π
BabaMouse my favorite π
GAH!

Thank you, Debbe!!! And thank you for not giving up on that download, ha!!
mid-90s music was rubbish! π (everything else in this comic is wonderful) π
W. (Winifred) M. Quinn
Good one! I bet you’re right. I hadn’t thought of Winifred, just Frederica (went back to the third installment to look too).
Ruh-roh!
Panel 6… is that another three-legged cat or just a tail below her skirts?
And now we have a real human ghostie, too. What a great story line.
[the 90’s] “…the music was great!”
— No. No it wasn’t. Not ever.
Just her tail!
My two cats groove to the Rolling Stones right along with me. (I grew up in the 60s, guys)
Nobody put 90’s music in a corner! *shakes fist*
Can’t wait to see where this goes!! π
Spooky!!! Gosh, Georgia, no apologies necessary, we understand you have a vey busy life and are eternally grateful for tne time you give us with this most wonderful strip!X

… you know, the granny cat should probably be dressed in early 90’s clothing instead of generic old granny clothes. π
I am super tempted to sneak a “Pixies” or “Sonic Youth” tee shirt on her one day….
The delay is totally understandable, but I will admit to pulling up the website about every five minutes to see if there was a new one yet! So if the traffic for yesterday was unusually high, that’s why! π
90’s music eh??????? not completely sure about that. 70’s perhaps
This story gets better and better!
And give The Man a super hero cape for his computer work. Thanks Ryan!

Awww, now I’m getting all wobbly-chinned at the idea of Tillie getting closed up in the wall even so long ago.
(Can you believe, I’m getting wuffly about a cartoon cat?)
I agree completely about worry for Tillie in the wall….
I’ve never heard/seen the word “wuffly” before, but I know exactly what you mean by it and so I want to thank you for teaching me a new word, Jessie!
thanks for letting us know it was a computer glitch only and that all is well at your home π
