All adorable as ever <3 i especially love Tommy bending the branch and Elvis been unusually calm and sipping his coffee… i was expecting fireworks from him but he was probably in recovery mode after a night of guarding the baby <3
I think Elvis is 3/4 asleep, which is why he’s working the coffee. Of course, his eyes are closed and we know that when they’re open he might be asleep…
The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea
In a beautiful pea green boat,
They took some honey, and plenty of money,
Wrapped up in a five pound note.
The Owl looked up to the stars above,
And sang to a small guitar,
‘O lovely Pussy! O Pussy my love,
What a beautiful Pussy you are,
You are,
You are!
What a beautiful Pussy you are!’
Pussy said to the Owl, ‘You elegant fowl!
How charmingly sweet you sing!
O let us be married! too long we have tarried:
But what shall we do for a ring?’
They sailed away, for a year and a day,
To the land where the Bong-tree grows
And there in a wood a Piggy-wig stood
With a ring at the end of his nose,
His nose,
His nose,
With a ring at the end of his nose.
‘Dear pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling
Your ring?’ Said the Piggy, ‘I will.’
So they took it away, and were married next day
By the Turkey who lives on the hill.
They dined on mince, and slices of quince,
Which they ate with a runcible spoon;
And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand,
They danced by the light of the moon,
The moon,
The moon,
They danced by the light of the moon.
Thank you, “Mr. Lear.” It’s been simply YEARS since I’ve heard the whole thing. What an absolutely charming bit of doggerel. BLESS you for bringing it up :-)!!!!
Poor Tommy! He’s a bit heavy to be perching on a branch! Is he a bit clumsy when climbing? Her Rotundity Jingle Belle Katt has recently, when performing the “deadly cuteness attack” rolling and stretching on the bed,
has rolled just–a–BIT–too– far–and–REOW! (plunk on floor, embarrassed kitty slinks from room to sulk as humans laugh)
Poor girl! One of our cats loved to sit at the top of the stairs and roll and stretch and demand tummy rubs to pay for the privilege of passing by. One day he misjudged how close he was to the actual top stair and was NOT happy when the humans laughed at him bouncing down a few steps. From then on, he sunk his claws into the carpet to hold himself in place, THEN tried to flop over. Which wasn’t all that easy, on account of claws in the carpet holding him in place. So cutely funny watching him try to work out how to demand tummy rubs while still holding on to the carpet!
Whoooo could this be? Could “Wicket” possibly be an avian version of Jane Austen’s wicked George Wickham? I believe we were given hints that there might be a version of “Pride and Prejudice” coming up. Hmmmm…
I finally figured out how to keep up with all the new comments here without having to post a new comment and then request them for a particular strip. It was as simple as adding Breaking Cat News to my existing WordPress dashboard and turning on a setting to receive them.
Also, I just want everyone to know what a great job Society6 does in printing and framing Georgia’s work. I am completely satisfied in the print I purchased of the Boys Reading Books! And I must mention that Georgia gets a direct benefit from our purchases there. (A great way to support her work!)
Bravo! That occurred to me as well. I am now picturing Wicket with Chevalier’s accent. ( from the film Gigi, for those younger people, not perhaps as familiar with the quote)’
In The Owl and The Pussycat poem, Edward Lear started to write a sequel for it. Unfortunately, he died before it was completed. It was called The Children of the Owl and the Pussycat and it went
“Our mother was the Pussy-cat,
our father was the Owl,
And so we’re partly little beasts
and partly little fowl,
The brothers of our family
have feathers and they hoot,
While all the sisters dress in fur
and have long tails to boot.”
In the poem, the owl and the pussycat got married and the dance/reception was held on the beach. Now whether Wicket and Baba Mouse were ever married, we’ll have to leave up to Georgia’s imagination to tell us.
Since Baba means grandma, perhaps Mouse really did have children (kit-lets?) with Wicket. Or some barn tom instead.
To me it makes sense that Wicket’s a barn owl and not screech owl. Their screech is much worse and almost scary if you have no idea what’s making it!
All the other things that I love about this strip has been said by others. So all I’ll say is THANK YOU, Georgia!!! I absolutely adore 💖 your continuing stories written back to back like this. Even later when you write short (maybe 3 panels) long daily strips, I’d love it if you can still stretch a story like this over a week or two. If I know it’s a continuing story, I can save up to read them all at one shot …if I can bear the suspense!
I got my prints today!!!! Yay!!!! Speaking of the owl and the pussycat, I’m over the moon 🙂 I made sure not to tear the sticker you sealed the envelope with so I could keep it..lol…and thank you so much for the group drawing of the cast…Georgia, you and the man are amazing!!!!!!
I think once Elvis wakes up from his long night protecting the baby he is going to go into protective mode with Beatrix. I can’t wait to find out more of the story. On a side note I saw Chistmas light bugs in my backyard tonight.
I don’t know if this has been mentioned already, but what is the big red splash against the sky in panel 3???
I adore the cheek in tongue between Wicket and Baba Mouse. I’ll bet this whole affair is eating away at Elvis–remember how upset he was by what he deemed as a “clearly a tabloid” when the toddler was a baby and the Woman was reading the Owl & the Pussy Cat to the Baby (then) and Puck was reporting on it. I’ll never forget how intrigued Lupin was and how appalled Elvis was. :p
I believe what we’re seeing in panel 3 is the red wall of Baba Mouse’s house. If you go back to the previous strip you’ll see it with a bit more perspective. My apologies if you were referring to something else.
Jennifer Barts mentioned the Owl and the Pussycat book cover. The little cat on that book cover is wearing a skirt that looks just like Baba Mouse’s head scarf. See if you agree.
*fingers crossed that we get a flashback of young Baba Mouse*
That would be amazing!
Be interesting to know if she was always “Baba Mouse”. 🙂
Yes, that would be awesome!
More Baba Mouse!
What’s Wicket doing out in the daytime?
Perhaps it really is true love!
All adorable as ever <3 i especially love Tommy bending the branch and Elvis been unusually calm and sipping his coffee… i was expecting fireworks from him but he was probably in recovery mode after a night of guarding the baby <3
Can't wait for the next part 😀
I think Elvis is 3/4 asleep, which is why he’s working the coffee. Of course, his eyes are closed and we know that when they’re open he might be asleep…
Yes, Elvis must still be out of it. I was expecting him to give Beatrix a hard time about how she gets out.
Love how she swiped the microphone away from poor Scout!
Love.
Pull up a chair folks, this is going to be good!
I second the request for a Baba flashback!

…not a lot to do in a barn. That line got a giggle here.
“I died inside…” Was that a wee nod to the Princess Bride?! Oh, I just LOVE your imagination, Georgia. Thank you for sharing!
Elvis drinking his coffee, sooooo cute ❤️
Oh my cat. A love story. Can’t wait for the flashbacks. Well done Georgia
“Eyesight’s going, huh?”
Yeah—it’s tough getting old!
;-D
Good one, Georgia! I enjoy reading BCN.
Thanks!

She didn’t give you the “I *Meant* to do that” look?
Nope. Pretty sure my hubby’s BWA-HA-HA hurt her kitty pride. At least she didn’t go throw up in his shoes….
Whoooo could this be? Could “Wicket” possibly be an avian version of Jane Austen’s wicked George Wickham? I believe we were given hints that there might be a version of “Pride and Prejudice” coming up. Hmmmm…
Look at the “Owl and the Pussycat” book cover from two strips ago. There she is!

Thank you, Fritz!!
Good to know!
ahhahahahahahahaha I was doing okay until that last panel, but dang, my monitor just got a bath.
“We saw each other etc” did Baba take up with the turkey when she was left on the beach? You go Baba!
Whatever did they call barn owls before barns were invented?
Wicket: We dined at nine
Baba Mouse: We dined at eight
Wicket: I was on time
Baba Mouse: No, you came late
Wicket: Oh my Cat! I remember it well!
Bravo! That occurred to me as well. I am now picturing Wicket with Chevalier’s accent. ( from the film Gigi, for those younger people, not perhaps as familiar with the quote)’
😀 Yes! Now I have that accent for Wicket in my head!
Now this I like. Great song.
Ah, yes….
Maurice Chevalier and (I believe) Hermione Gingold?
Thanks for that sweet, sweet memory.
(with a slight tearing of the eye….not that it’s poignant or anything….I’ve just got something in my eye)
Yes, the irrepressible Hermione herself.
I especially love Baba swiping the mic from Beatrice and the last 2 panel ( not much to do in a barn and Baba saying ” eyesight is going, huh?”
“Aw, nuts.” *laughs embarrassingly loudly*
My husband loves Tommy and the “ah nuts” really got to him! I love Wicket’s mustache!
Oh, Bea, I don’t know that you’re at the right age to hear EVERYthing about adult relationships. They can get so complicated, after all.
Wicket, you left Mouse at the altar! She’s allowed to be a wee bit miffed.
“The Pussycat and the owl” Is a classic poem.
I want to know more about the turkey.
Very cute Kim G!! I’ve always loved that Maurice Chevalier/Hermoine Gingold duet from Gigi.
Poor Tommy! lol
The Robber Mice need to be watching this, it’s more soapy than All My IX Lives.

Yay!!! Thank you so much for ordering, Mary!!
“Tale as old as time,
Song as old as rhyme…”
But who’s Beauty and who’s the beast?
Oh my I love Bea getting super excited and squeeing “Tell us everything!”
If I may modify a line from “Downton Abbey” — Baba’s got a past!
Thanks — looking forward to more.
I think once Elvis wakes up from his long night protecting the baby he is going to go into protective mode with Beatrix. I can’t wait to find out more of the story. On a side note I saw Chistmas light bugs in my backyard tonight.

Love this story arc !! I can’t wait to hear more !! 😺
Wonderful storyline as usual but, I must put on record that I think your artwork and coloring is spectacular. Beautiful job.
Jennifer Barts mentioned the Owl and the Pussycat book cover. The little cat on that book cover is wearing a skirt that looks just like Baba Mouse’s head scarf. See if you agree.
Knowing young Baba Mouse must’ve been a real hoot !! 😸
LOL! Aww! Poor Tommy was too heavy to stay on the branch for long. The limb bent right down!
I loved Tommy bending the branch. He is not that heavy, but the spoof was fun.
Baba Mouse has gotten *rather* resistant to sweet-talking. What was she like in her youth?
I think she’s eating it up. Wicket still got game.
In the poem they were married by a turkey. So did Wicket leave her at the altar?
Off-topic, but Puck (and his fans) will definitely appreciate this:
“The Present”. Disney offered a job to the student that created this animation.

Oh, Cat! I just watched this and it is so sweet! Made me tear up just a little. This little video shows great talent and sensitivity.
I’m confused. Is Baba a mouse or a cat?
“LOUD!” 🙂 🙂 🙂
No, that was it! I didn’t realise it was the side of the barn. Thanks!!
The above message was meant for the reply to Sarah CT (apologies, my laptop won’t let me make a direct reply for some odd reason)
Tommy needs to lose some weight….
