Hello everyone! Monday’s strip may be late, most likely on Tuesday. I will be traveling to attend my Nana’s funeral and this will delay the strip. Thank you so much for all of the kind words folks have sent on Twitter, Facebook, and here on the BCN site. Those messages have been a great comfort! It’s been a tough few days, and as I check in on comments, there has been a steady stream of thoughtful words and sympathy, and it’s been helpful to me. Thank you.
Just attended a funeral myself last week. It’s hard to concentrate on much of anything when it’s someone close to you. Take all the time you need to grieve. Your loving fans will be here waiting patiently when you get back.
I’ve had some pet mice of my own before and the personalities of the mice really match up to some of the mice I’ve had. I can’t wait to read the next installment! (And I can’t believe I managed to catch the update this early.)
I must say, having had a cat who had a very dangerous encounter with an owl, the last panel does indeed make me more than a little concerned for Bea’s safety.
Dun Dun Dun! The plot thickens! I just knew the robber mice would have a plan to save Alice. I would not want to be Wicket when it all goes down.
This strip is just priceless. Thank you Georgia for sharing your fur family and your talents.
I am loving this story! In the middle of all the tension Puck apologizes on air and we get to see what a dedicated pen pal he is to Agnes. Elvis is understandabley worried about Beatrix and then Beatrix finds Wicket! What will happen next!?
Travel safely Georgia! We will be waiting patiently (with bated breath, but patiently) for your return. Kisses to the boys, and hugs for you and your family.
Thoughts and prayers with you, Georgia, during this difficult time. And speaking of tough times, looks like a certain owl will soon be in a “sticky wicket”. I just hope that Beatrix keeps her head on a swivel and takes shelter as needed!
OH FOR CAT’S SAKE!!! *love that expression..Need it on a coffee cup!*
Getting dressed for work, Sipping his morning juice…*reads last panel..*
*Cue’s Vader’s Voice* BEATRIX!!! Nooooooooo!!!!*
By the way, Of course Owls don’t watch the news, They don’t give a hoot…*cue drum*
**Serious note: Lately I have a slight problem. Aside from grandma’s two cats. now there is a fluffy stray that somehow decides to wander in through the cat door that DOES NOT WEAR A HAWAIIAN SHIRT. And he thinks he lives here. So far, I picked him up and put him back outside where he can wander home.. Any ideas???**
Believe it or not, I solved this problem by putting a note on his collar, if he has one. If he does NOT have one, put one on him. That brings the matter to the attention of the owner, if there is one. He may just be scamming a second breakfast, or could be a stray.
Chef Hom, Since it’s willingly coming in to your house, it must be someone’s pet and used to going in and out. Could you or someone ask around the neighborhood? I assume the stray doesn’t have a tag, but it might be microchipped. Maybe next time it comes in, you can take it to a local vet to be scanned.
If your other cats have let the newcomer stay and he/she isn’t causing trouble I guess you have a new family member. One of my favorites joined our fam that way.
We’ve had 2 cats walk right in our front door! The first one stayed with us for many years. The second one was a lactating mama. We looked and there were no signs of her kits anywhere on our property. I googled local rescues and emailed every one I could. Someone suggested I take her to a local pet store where they could scan for a microchip. She didn’t have one but their associated rescue group had a litter of kittens who had lost their mama, so they took her to see if she could feed them.
I suggest you take some pictures and email them to every local rescue you can find, also take him to your vet or somewhere where they can scan him for a microchip.
I’ve had at least three cats, including my newest boy, who just walked in and said “I live here now. Deal with it!” So I do. ( I also had another guy try to move in whose woman came looking for him.) My current squatter is actually microchipped, but the registered phone number has been disconnected, and the cat has made it quite clear that he isn’t going anywhere.
Thank you for giving us this wonderful story even in your time of mourning, Georgia. And rest well, Georgia’s Nana. I still have dreams about my grandmother sometimes, even though she has been gone eight years or so (she lived with us my entire life up until she passed away). Perhaps my Nana and your Nana are chatting over tea and TV somewhere in Heaven?
Melissa, you don’t like the last pane…….can you imagine how Elvis is going to react when he finds out where she is. He may act tough, but he loves that little girl. Georgia, Tuesday will not get here fast enough, but know that we will be with you in spirt all weekend and at the funeral. Just know that the memories of you Grandmother are that much more special since no new ones will be added. Remember, no one can take them away from you.
I’m sure Baba Mouse is aware….
While I still would like to see Gentleman Burt show that he’s a tough-but-quiet hero to put Kit Chase to shame; I’d be just fine with an elderly gray ninja cat showing a dastardly villain the painful depth of his errors.
Dang it Ms. Dunn! Why do you have to get me so emotionally invested?
If that owl puts one claw on Beatrix, he’s going to have one angry Golden Cat on his back. Hence, no contest. Go get him, Elvis!
Georgia, although one the sadder times of your life, it’s also a time to see your family again, reminiscing and wonderful, genuine heartwarming laughter. It truly helps to smooth over the grief.
Safe travels. You an your family are in our prayers. Safe journey over the Rainbow Bridge for Nana to wait for you with all the pets you have ever loved.
Georgia, I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that we are with you as you travel and lean on this fact for strength. Above all, I wish you and yours peace. Safe travels until we meet again.
Now, now my friends. Do you really think Georgia will let anything happen to Beatrix? Or to any of our beloved CN family? She’s a marvelous story teller, and I’m sure it will be thrilling, but fear not.
Because in a previous strip Tillie (ghost cat) change the calendar above sleeping Puck, then woke him up. But she was gone when he woke up. He’s probably carrying it around because he’s confused and is trying to find out how that happened.
You KNOW we love you, and that we’ll gladly wait ’til you return and are ‘ready’. Safe and healing travels to you, and our sympathy/empathy, as always. Bob C.
I think he had just woken up when Tillie changed it a couple of strips ago and was bringing it to the guys to ask if they had changed it. wondering if the june/july bug will play an accidental (or intentional) part in the mice’s plan?? a nice jab in the Wicket’s back side perhaps?
True warning, RG, flour is a potent combustible if it’s in the air around /an ignition source/ like candles or bad wiring. (Gotta watch out for half-information on the ‘Net.) For more reading, Google “fuel-air explosive”. Watch for candles Violet!
May your families be a support to you in this time of sadness, Georgia, both your People family and these lovable, irascible, indefatigable cats!
G. let not regrets take up any space in your mind. focus on what she was here to experience not the things she will not be here for.
so glad your able to attend the funeral. when my gram passed away it was great to be with others who knew her to share stories of her life. to share tears and laughter.
my gram was also an important person in my life during my growing up years. I love seeing traits of her in my son ( like how he is a natural at baking )even though she died when he was a toddler. personally i belive that traits beyound hair an eye color are also passed on to us. then there are the traditions that you and husband will share with your kids.
be where you need to be. take as much time as you need. we will all still be here in this great community.
PS Just saw the comments about Puck and the July calendar page that TIllie turned over. Perhaps she was giving them a hint about fireworks. Even if Violet’s the explosives gal, Puck may lend a paw.
One of the (many) reasons that I love this strip is the details; those that I notice on the first run through, those that I notice on later run throughs and those that others point out to me.
Case in point, Violet’s violet eyes behind the TINY SAFETY GOGGLES worn while performing chemistry! (Noticed the goggles 1st run through, did not notice eye color until Esmeralda Anistasia pointed it out, thank you!) Both details wonderfully appropriate.
Rest assured, we will all be waiting patiently [or more or less, but rather less than more (apologies to Gilbert and Sullivan)] for the next strip when you return home from this far more important trip.
Really, we understand. And I am both surprised and grateful that you are planning on returning to work so soon. Your using your art as comfort is the best possible win-win situation that I can imagine.
Thank you and heal well. I would say heal quickly, but it never seems to be quick. Perhaps that’s just as well. I think it would almost trivialize the love and the bond we shared with someone if we could get over their loss too quickly.
Dear Georgia,
Our deepest sympathies about the passing of your grandmother. It’s a relationship of pure love and camaraderie, and then sad as we see frailness develop… And it means the past is really gone.
It’s so nice to see friendship and cooperation between the cats and mice, and the last panel adds dramatic tension and worry for young Beatrix, innocent kitten… This owl needs to be rehabilitated!
Umm, don’t the Robber Mice live in the walls of the big pink house? So by leading Wicket to the front porch, actually, they *are* leading him to their home.
I think they just come to the big pink house to steal things they need. On Twitter Beatrix mentioned being in the attic of the farmhouse the other day when she was interviewing them.
Georgia,
You bring so much pleasure to those of us who follow the BCN world. We urge you to take the time you need to spend time with your family. May you, the man, the toddler and the baby have a safe trip. And may the boys behave themselves with whoever is taking care of them!
I am so pleased that your grandmother got to see your book.
I’ve got an Epileptic Trees* theory. All this talk of the Golden Mouse… but there’s no hint of whom it might be. Perhaps not a ‘mouse’ mouse? There’s one ol’lady – in her GOLDEN years – who’d be quite the distraction to Wicket. And from the sound of her, baba Mouse would be quite capable of handling the owl. She was present when the prophecy originated; she might have convinced Wicket not to kill’n’eat other pets at the Quinn house. And notice that in the original prophecy she cared for Wicket, but eventually he got away so she couldn’t ‘finish him off’ or what the prophecy tells about.
If Alice gets to safety while Baba Mouse is arguing with Wicket, I’m calling it now. (And this would be a **** of a brick-joke, if she were named literally years ago for this one.) Anyone else want to share their fan theories about the prophecy?
Pastangum Felinix
* To any readers who suffer from epilepsy, PLEASE accept my apologies; I don’t mean to trivialize your suffering. ‘Epileptic Trees’ commonly refers to fan-theories which are usually improbable, impractical or imPOSSIBLE. See http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EpilepticTrees for more info.
Am I the only one who believes Wicket will not prove wicked after all? Is he not taking the mice as a gift to Baba mouse, or have I missed something in the plot development. Georgia seems incapable of penning a truly reprehensible character. And dear little Beatrix (who is both naive and wise at the same time) will surely prove herself equal too or at least having the kind heart and perspective to transform both a dog and an owl to her optimistic sensibilities.
so very sorry for your loss, or, as Sir Figaro y Tabitha would say, lo siento mucho. Your grandmother must have been a wonderful woman to have inspired such lovely characters … and such an awesome granddaughter/artist <3

I’m worried about Beatrix now
I’ m very sad for your loss, stay strong and hold tight to your loved ones.
I am loving this story! In the middle of all the tension Puck apologizes on air and we get to see what a dedicated pen pal he is to Agnes. Elvis is understandabley worried about Beatrix and then Beatrix finds Wicket! What will happen next!?
Safe travels Georgia. Do some healing with your family.
And Wicket, do not even think about touching Beatrix!!
If this were a major (or not so major, for that matter) motion picture, that last panel would be marked with an ominous music sting:
Dum Dum DUM Dum…..(oh, the terror that awaits)
Since Beatrix (my favorite) is just a kitten, can’t that Wicked owl just grab Beatrix and hold her as hostage?
Why is Baba Mouse not aware of what’s happening!?!
Whoooo says she isn’t ? Don’t count the rest of the “outdoor” folks…CN puts them all “in the loop”.
Don’t “discount”…
Travel safely Georgia! We will be waiting patiently (with bated breath, but patiently) for your return. Kisses to the boys, and hugs for you and your family.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

You might as well accept the inevitable, get him fixed, bring him in for good and ever, then invest in some appropriately sized Hawaiian shirts
Chef Hom – Congrats on your new family member! 😉
“Owls…don’t give a hoot.” Good one Chef!

Oh my cat, I am worried about Beatrix. She is so young and small.
Georgia, you take as long as you need. You have opened your home and family up to all of us and I feel we share your loss.
I’m so sorry for your loss, Georgia. My thoughts are with you and your family in this difficult time.
I see Puck carrying the calendar from a few strips ago in the first panel. Can’t wait for the next installment. Safe travels to the East Coast.
Safe trip to you, hugs, as well. I look forward to your story, late or not!
I am so sorry to hear about your Nanna.
Wicket is going to regret it if anything happens to Beatrix.
And we’ll wait. There are more important things than a comic strip. *HUGS*
I agree with Agnes I just worry…that’s my thing 😄
Melissa, you don’t like the last pane…….can you imagine how Elvis is going to react when he finds out where she is. He may act tough, but he loves that little girl. First, Miss Georgia my deepest sympathies on the loss of your grandma. Tie for best line~Violet’s our explosions gal and owls don’t watch the news.
Maybe, her name should be “Violent”? A special kind of flour girl.
Oh My Cat! Nervous for Bea, but Wicket seems to like cats as friends and not food.
I just love little Agnes… That’s my “thing” too, worrying!
We wish you and your family the best and hope your Nana’s funeral is beautiful.
Papa Elvis is not happy.
I hope Trevor is around.
I can picture Elvis rushing to Beatrix’s rescue only to find Trevor rushing there too. Can you picture Trevor and Elvis face to face?
Who says she’s not? She’s probably preparing something on her own (or with Burt).
I’m sure Baba Mouse is aware….
While I still would like to see Gentleman Burt show that he’s a tough-but-quiet hero to put Kit Chase to shame; I’d be just fine with an elderly gray ninja cat showing a dastardly villain the painful depth of his errors.

Take care x
Chef Hom . . . . Go get a collar and another bowl . . . . ! Welcome to the Crazy Cat Man life! LOL!
Love today’s story . . . . ! Elvis has such a father’s heart. Puck is just PERFECT!
Travel safely, don’t worry about the cats, mice etc. Take care of yourself and your family, we will here when you get back.
Safe travels. You an your family are in our prayers. Safe journey over the Rainbow Bridge for Nana to wait for you with all the pets you have ever loved.
As always your story-telling is wonderful!
So sorry for your loss will keep you my thoughts and, prayers.
Well spotted, Monica! Puck is indeed still studying the July calendar page that Tillie flipped over for him. It clearly puzzles him. And me, too.
And, Oh My Cat, who is going to play the part of the Golden Mouse? Agnes???? Puck will not like that.
Oooooh, Violet be careful. Howstuffworks.com told me fine particles of flour floating in a dust cloud will explode in a flash when ignited!
My sincere condolences on the loss of your beloved grandmother. Grammas or Nanas, whatever you call them, are special and live in our hearts forever.
Georgia, I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that we are with you as you travel and lean on this fact for strength. Above all, I wish you and yours peace. Safe travels until we meet again.
I wish I had a thing. I just worry.
That *is* your thing.
Love.
Watch out for angry owls!
Now, now my friends. Do you really think Georgia will let anything happen to Beatrix? Or to any of our beloved CN family? She’s a marvelous story teller, and I’m sure it will be thrilling, but fear not.
Two thumbs up!
I REALLY want to know why Puck is carrying around the July calendar page…
Because in a previous strip Tillie (ghost cat) change the calendar above sleeping Puck, then woke him up. But she was gone when he woke up. He’s probably carrying it around because he’s confused and is trying to find out how that happened.
I’m thinking about the July Bug.
This is so adorable I’m just dead.
You KNOW we love you, and that we’ll gladly wait ’til you return and are ‘ready’. Safe and healing travels to you, and our sympathy/empathy, as always. Bob C.
Hi, non sequitur here, Agnes and Alice have green eyes, Natasha has red, what I’m wondering is, are Violet’s eyes *violet*?
The teeny tiny goggles Violet is wearing are adorable and hilarious! One must be careful when working with explosives.
I think he had just woken up when Tillie changed it a couple of strips ago and was bringing it to the guys to ask if they had changed it. wondering if the june/july bug will play an accidental (or intentional) part in the mice’s plan?? a nice jab in the Wicket’s back side perhaps?
I agree that we need a coffee mug that says “Oh my cat!”
Love Elvis drumming his pencil. It serves to build suspense.
Since Tillie has made an appearance recently, perhaps she and Freddie will make an appearance together and Mouse can apologize to Freddie.
I wonder if the golden mouse will be the July bug?
Thoughts and prayers heading your way Georgia. Just take care of you & all your family. That’s a priority.
Safe travels! Hold your family close & know that all of us are wishing you well.
I love Natasha’s face in panel 15!
True warning, RG, flour is a potent combustible if it’s in the air around /an ignition source/ like candles or bad wiring. (Gotta watch out for half-information on the ‘Net.) For more reading, Google “fuel-air explosive”. Watch for candles Violet!

What in the world will they do with that zip-bag of flour?
…
Hey, didn’t Jerry disguise himself as a white mouse or a ghost to scare Tom sometimes?
Oh, my cat! I just remembered that flour can burn in the air! Will Violet make a July firework out of Wicket’s feathers?!
G. let not regrets take up any space in your mind. focus on what she was here to experience not the things she will not be here for.

be where you need to be. take as much time as you need. we will all still be here in this great community.
Safe travels, Georgia. I’m so glad your Nana got to see the strips that bring us all such joy.
Isn’t Agnes a lovely golden color?
PS Just saw the comments about Puck and the July calendar page that TIllie turned over. Perhaps she was giving them a hint about fireworks. Even if Violet’s the explosives gal, Puck may lend a paw.
Not clear to me that Pucky can spare another paw.
So sorry to hear about your Nana. Safe travels and may happy memories comfort you.
Family first, always. We will always wait. *gentle hugs* to you and yours.
Odear. My condolences, and those of the kittehs’.
The teeny tiny envelopes!
Why are some of the mice’s eye red, and some are green? Like Angnes, my thing is that I worry about everything.
Sincere sympathy on your loss – grandmothers are so important to us! You are in my thoughts and prayers – travel safely and remember – you are loved!

It should be “Agnes” in my previous comment. I can spell but I can’t type!
Dont the mice live IN the big pink house?
I’ve got an Epileptic Trees* theory. All this talk of the Golden Mouse… but there’s no hint of whom it might be. Perhaps not a ‘mouse’ mouse? We’re the mice always that chubby? I don’t remember them to be so.
What is that paper Puck is carrying around?
Puck has a 4th of July (Independence Day) picture / coloring book page.
Agnes is golden-coloured. just saying.
Your readers will understand if the strip is late. As someone already wrote, family first. We will wait.
I hope you and your family are going alright. Just thought I would let you know I’m still thinking of you.
so very sorry for your loss, or, as Sir Figaro y Tabitha would say, lo siento mucho. Your grandmother must have been a wonderful woman to have inspired such lovely characters … and such an awesome granddaughter/artist <3
So sorry for your loss, Georgia. Absolutely, family comes first. Hugs and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
It’s the July calendar page – he’s still puzzled from Sunday when it magically turned itself (sneaky Tillie).
