I did not plan it this way, but this seems like a perfect strip to announce that tomorrow at 8:30 P.M. Eastern time I will be sketching and painting on a live stream. Which means, you can tune in and watch! I will try to talk a little bit about what goes into writing and drawing the comic while I work. I will be posting the link to watch a little bit before 8:30 on the studio Facebook page and my Twitter. I hope you will tune in!
Good luck with your live feed! I am not a member of FB or Twitter but look forward to everything you do, thanks for the comicscoming by e-mail! Love BCN x
Those on that side of the pond are 5 hours behnd GMT. Hope you’re a night owl and get to join in! Unfortunately I am even further East, so even my fanatic devotion to BCN won’t keep me up that late…
Yeah, I agree! I can’t pull all-nighters like I used to do at uni aeons ago. :p Thanks to everyone for the time info for this side of the pond! 🙂 I never could figure it out–I’m originally from Texas and it always confused me when I was dating my hubby online, and even still, when I phone my parents, I never can tell exactly what the time is without looking it up. :p
If this time around goes well, I will try to do an earlier session next for folks! We only chose 8:30 here because that’s (usssssually, knock on wood) the earliest that both children are sleep for the night!
I had known for a while that I wanted Sophie to be an artist, (the idea of what cats would find artistic is just too fun, and I feel like it will lead to a lot of fun headlines!) Recently a young reader wrote to me that they enjoy working in mixed media. I love mixed media work in real life. When I sat down to write this a few days ago and thought about the materials Sophie will be working with, it felt like a sweet kitty-way to put it. (Originally I was going to call Sophie a sculptor). And so, thank you to one of our readers, Aria, for the inspiration!
You need to meet my friend’s cat. Sasha is La Petite Artiste, and her arrangements have bewildered, bemused and bedazzled us for well over a year now. 🙂
Is the Beloved Sophie holding a T for Tommy in the last panel………. is she actually standing next to Tommy without trying to shoo him away……. Is this the best comic strip ever………… And there is going to be live streaming tomorrow! …….. I can’t cope any more excitement ……i’m going to make a nice cup of tea, and have a quiet sit down before my head explodes 🙂
I used to have this book. you may want to look it up or get a copy. http://www.amazon.com/Why-Cats-Paint-Theory-Aesthetics/dp/0898156122 There have been various feline Van Goghs and its interesting how they create or “paint” images from various medias. Seeing this strip reminded me of the book, especially as there was a cat in the book that used magnets on the refrigerator to make abstract art.
Those books are…how to put it…practical jokes? Intended by the authors to come across as true but are completely made up. I don’t recall how they were marketed at the beginning, but I’m fairly certain interviews have been done with the authors in which they admit this. Not that I think they ever really tried to pull the wool over anyone’s eyes. And the books are certainly cute and interesting even knowing it’s not real.
I love the materials Sophie works with, they just seem so cat-like! (IRL, our cats are fascinated by toilet paper rolls, but scared of empty paper towel rolls; not sure they react “artistically” though {g}!)
Yes, please put a link to your live streaming here when you can, so those of us who don’t use FB or Twitter can see it – thanks very much, Georgia!
I’ve always been really interested in how you do the watercolors. To me, that’s a medium not commonly confined within drawn lines. How exciting that we’ll be able to watch you work!
I actually read her in a British accent, imagining her to be a bit like Audrey Hepburn – sort of a polar opposite to Tommy’s rugged, wandering outdoorsman (although the off-screen Audrey was a lot more like Tommy). But Sophie could just as easily be French, since Audrey was born Dutch, but grew up in all three Holland, London and Paris.
LOL! That is so darling! Look at Lupin drinking tea! 😀 And Sophie is sooo precious! I just love how she has one hazel eye and one blue. I can’t remember from her picture . . . does she really have eyes like that? My grandfather had eyes like that, but one was green and the other blue. 🙂
She does, Sophie is blind in one eye. One of her eyes is yellow, and the other is grey/blue and a bit mottled. She is pretty as anything though, and does not let her disability get her down! 🙂
I can almost promise Lupin, he lives to interrupt! Elvis may join us, he has a bed beside my desk. Puck would be a surprise, he typically retires early after dinner (on the couch). Pucky is a kitty of routine, ha!
120 Eastern Main Rd,
Arouca, Trinidad and Tobago; I just stumbled across this strip today, and I’m hooked. I had to review the ENTIRE archive. I love . Thank you for this joyous thing that you created, and know that your strip has at least one true blue fan in the tropical Caribbean. It’s amazing how well you have been able to differentiate the personalities of your cats. And Elvis is just so spot on conscientious, uptight Siamese. Thanks again.
Thank you, Gerard!! I believe you are the first to comment from the Caribbean! It is wonderful to virtually “meet” you, hehe, and I am thrilled that you like the comic, thank you!
Oooooooh! I had a kitty with one green eye and one gold eye! And fluffy, too! Only he was a “True Smoke”: a long-haired gray tabby with gray stripes. He was so gray he had a purplish tinge to him. He also had one brown front paw, and one gray front paw. And he was as ethereal as Sophie!
Does anyone know if you have to be a Twitter member? I follow Georgia’s twitter account, and I also click on the links posted there and have had no problem. I guess I will find out tonight, if not, thank you Georgia for posting a link to the live stream at a later date.
Oh, Sophie is so beautiful, great strip, love Lupin drinking tea.
My friend and I are eagerly awaiting the live feed, Georgia! He’s on the east coast, I am west coast. Hope it works on the phones and tablets. (android)
I had no problems finding the link and playing the broadcast. I also signed up for a twitch account and set it up for email notification when you have a new broadcast!
Kitty art! Ya know paints done by animals (horses, elephants, ect) can go for thousands of dollars. I once saw a painting by a horse that I could actually recognize as a stream in the woods. Talented creatures, horses.
Feline artistry is great! My parents used to have a cat who collected feathers that he found lying around outside (mostly from crows, with the odd seagull feather thrown in for good measure). He’d bring them in and arrange them around his food dish!
Wonderful — can’t wait to try the archived stream (have to do that at home, the school server blocks those kind of things.)
No excuse for not logging-in earlier from home — must be one of those senior moments.
Who knew that Sophie was artistically inclined? Is this the beginning of her finally speaking to Tommy?

Will we be able to watch it later if we can’t make the live stream?
Yes! We will be archiving it and saving it so folks can watch it anytime after! 🙂
Wonderful! Being in a different time zone I dunno when I’ll be able to see it, but I may not be able to catch it live. This is so exciting!
Thats good to know, 8:30 for you is 1:30 am here! 🙂
Oh good! We almost had to change our dinner plans. Just kidding. We’d have sat at dinner with our friends watching the feed like “normal” people.
Perhaps if we are lucky, we will see occasional appearances by some of the stars of the Breaking Cat News network!
Not now, Lupin! Cracked me up.
Good luck with your live feed! I am not a member of FB or Twitter but look forward to everything you do, thanks for the comicscoming by e-mail! Love BCN x
I will try to post a link here too, if that helps folks! 🙂
can’t wait for the Live stream Georgia!!! And Sophie is very artistic 😉
Sophie as a mixed media artist? Love it! She sounds like me when I paint: “There.” “Wait.” “There.” “Wait.”
So cute!
Oh my goodness to the visionary Sophie and the live streaming.
“Not now, Lupin” LOL!
Speaking of the delicate balance between beauty and chaos – does anyone know what 8.30pm Eastern time is in English money? Would love to watch.
Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 01:30:00 AM
Online time translator indicates that 8:30PM Nov. 6th is, in England, 1:30AM Nov.7th.
Great Britain is 5 hours later than Eastern time, so 8:30 pm Eastern = 1:30 am British time… Not a terribly convenient time for you….
GMT time is 6 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time, so 8:30 PM Thursday evening would be 2:30 AM Friday morning.
Those on that side of the pond are 5 hours behnd GMT. Hope you’re a night owl and get to join in! Unfortunately I am even further East, so even my fanatic devotion to BCN won’t keep me up that late…

I believe EST is -5 GMT. So, 0130, I think.
0130 Saturday morning
Thanks everyone 🙂

The bottom of our fridge is probably covered with magnets 8-ball lost while swatting them around the door—one of his favorite games as a kitten.
Ah, Sophie! This explains so much about her relationship with Tommy 🙂
Last line is spot-on perfect!
A T for Tommy. I hope we have a new love story. 😻
Ah, someone else who refers to her as The Beloved Sophie. 😀 Shortening it just seems disrespectful somehow.
Yes I’m a great believer in using a cats full and proper address, especially when they are singularily gifted and ethereal.
top notch best friend material, ha ha! I am going to use that mixed modernism when describing my fine line between chaos and beauty, thanks.
Can you put up images of Burt, Sophie, and Baba mouse on the website sometime?
That’s exactly what I will be working on tomorrow night! I will be painting new images for the “Meet the Reporters” page.
Yay!
I used to have this book. you may want to look it up or get a copy. http://www.amazon.com/Why-Cats-Paint-Theory-Aesthetics/dp/0898156122 There have been various feline Van Goghs and its interesting how they create or “paint” images from various medias. A dear friend just suggested this book last night when I was describing today’s strip to them! I will have to check this out!
This is an excellent book. The followup, Why Paint Cats (literally!) I was less impressed with.
Those books are…how to put it…practical jokes? Intended by the authors to come across as true but are completely made up. One of the reviews is purportedly from an alley cat rejecting the bourgeois bias. I like his curse: “May all my shed fur cling to your formalwear.”
I love the materials Sophie works with, they just seem so cat-like! (IRL, our cats are fascinated by toilet paper rolls, but scared of empty paper towel rolls; not sure they react “artistically” though {g}!)

I hope, pray, and implore that this is a thawing of relations between Tommy and Sophie. Such unrequited love is hard to watch 🙂
I’ve always been really interested in how you do the watercolors. To me, that’s a medium not commonly confined within drawn lines. How exciting that we’ll be able to watch you work!
Is it just me who always reads Sophie in a French accent? I don’t know why, but I’m certain she’s French.
That is adorable!
I hear the French accent, too!
Love it! Sadly none of our cats have ever done this . . . yet.
LOL! That is so darling! Look at Lupin drinking tea! 😀 And Sophie is sooo precious! I just love how she has one hazel eye and one blue. I can’t remember from her picture . . . does she really have eyes like that? My grandfather had eyes like that, but one was green and the other blue. 🙂

How beautiful! Cats can really teach us a lesson–they don’t let disabilities get them down. 🙂
I’m thinking the loss of sight in one eye increased her artistic perceptions . . . she sees a world we don’t.
Amazing that Sophie is actually talking to Tommy, instead of telling him to be quiet!
Cat art is a well recognized field.
The Opening of the first Feline Art Exhibition at the Philip Wood Gallery
http://www.monpa.com/wcp/galleriespw.html
The Museum of Non Primate Art
http://www.monpa.com/
And there is a section on cat art in “An Engineer’s Guide to Cats” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHXBL6bzAR4
But none of them discuss magnetic art.
These links are fabulous, thank you so much!
You are welcome 🙂
Will there be cats?
I can almost promise Lupin, he lives to interrupt! Elvis may join us, he has a bed beside my desk. Puck would be a surprise, he typically retires early after dinner (on the couch). Pucky is a kitty of routine, ha!
I love that Sophie’s head of hair is a little long and flowing and that it curls slightly. Very feminine.
I get the feeling the fact Sophie even talked to him would put Tommy on Cloud 9 for days. What a sweetheart!
“All M words, Lupin”
That about sums it up.
Georgia Dunn-
Is Sophie’s Left eye Blinded? It seems to be grey, unlike her other eye.

Sophie is just demonstrating that fact.

Oh, Sophie is so beautiful, great strip, love Lupin drinking tea.
I’m not so sure about ‘ top notch best friend material ‘ someone’s looking positively bridal in panel 9 – or is it just me?
My friend and I are eagerly awaiting the live feed, Georgia! He’s on the east coast, I am west coast. Hope it works on the phones and tablets. (android)
Found this, I immediately thought of BCN – http://imgur.com/gallery/GyrO0
Hello!! Here is a link to the live stream! We will start in just a few moments!
http://www.twitch.tv/georgiadunnstudio
This strip has been a cat(h)art-ic experience for me.
Ooh. And is Sophie’s eye blind?
It is. 🙁
Did you say you were going to archive this for later viewing? I didn’t see any archive using that link.
On that link there should be a spot to click back to the profile page, and on that page there should be the video of the broadcast.
I had no problems finding the link and playing the broadcast. I also signed up for a twitch account and set it up for email notification when you have a new broadcast!
Thank you, Fritz!!!

Aww…
Loved the web stream last night.

Does Sophie have 1 blue eye and 1 brown/orange eye? I love that she’s best friend material! Hahahaha!!!
Sophie is blind in one eye, but it does not slow her down one bit! 🙂
