D’awww. I hadn’t realized I’d missed mooshy Tommy until now, but here he is, back in all his mooshiness! Cute! I’m also beginning to suspect that Lupin knows what happened to The Ham.
I love Lupin’s little fang showing in the last panel! And go find out what’s going on with the hamicide! That’s a cute picture of the toddler clutching his stuffed owl,
I’ve got a feeling we’re ignoring the obvious, that the ham has been served to the people. Then Puck and Lupin return, they will probably find the remains of the ham sliced up — and maybe some served to them.
Is it just me or has the site been really slow for the past week or so? The comic takes almost a half minute to load, whereas before it would come up within a second or two.
Put me down as another reader who hopes that the newspapers bite on this new format, I would hate to see this comic go away! It’s one of my favorites.
Aww, Toddler and his Owl. Didn’t realize before how much Owl looks like Wicket, does the wildlife retirement area of the sanctuary offer tours so Toddler and Wicket can meet?
I have had no problems with loading and reading pages at this site or at the GoComics site, or using the GoComics app (from Google Play). The pages load as soon as I arrive at the site address. In the past, I have had occasional problems with various GoComics strips loading, but not for a long time. I’ve never had a problem here, which is good because this is my preferred site to read and interact with the BCN community.
I think that the toddler is cuddled up with Pengo the penguin…although I could be mistaken. I think we all have Wicket on the brain, considering the recent triumph in the twice weekly strips and the disappearance of the coveted ham.
Love these daily strips, by far my favorite comic on line or in print. Now, to get it on both columns….
My 26 YO son took his big stuffed owl with him on a recent relocation and set it on his dresser. He found it at my house when I had him sort through the things he had stored here before moving. Now they take up much less room. So I love seeing Toddler with his owl. And I had a real LOL moment with ham.i.cide.
Tommy’s cute little nose pressed against the window pane. He so much wants to be in on the action! I know near the end, he’ll be let in to share in some ham scraps that the Boys will get. Nobody but the other kitties realise he’s outside.
I have some good news, and then some bad news, and then some good news!
The first good news: The Man just accepted a job offer in Washington state, and we are moving back to Washington in a few weeks! Many of you know this has been a big goal of ours. We hoped to move back to Washington before the kids were in school, and I am so happy we have this opportunity. It’s a position at a company the Man absolutely loves, and we’re ecstatic. I am so proud of him!
The bad news: If you’ve been reading for a while, you already know what is coming. Yes, I have to take a break for a few months. I’m so sorry. The dinner party mystery should be wrapping up late next week, and then I will begin the break because we’re leaving in two weeks, and that is a lot of packing and unpacking and settling and settling the kids and the cats and ourselves.
The great news: I had to take a break this autumn anyway; this is incredible timing. My editor and I are getting ready to hammer out all of the BCN strips we’re going to use to pitch the comic to newspapers. The plan is to have the comic ready to launch into newspapers this winter/early spring.
After we settle into Washington in a couple of months, I may be able to share some sketches and some inked rough draft strips and other behind the scenes sneak peeks during the newspaper-pitch-process!
I’m going to be unreachable for a little while, as I throw myself into packing and preparing and settling the kids and the cats after the move. I’ll do my best to share some photos and updates when I can. In the meantime, all of the archives of ‘Breaking Cat News’ will still be on the original site and GoComics!
I hope you understand, and there will be so much cat news in the future. Online and in the papers too, with a lot of hard work and some good luck too!
For now, I have to post this, and literally start taping up boxes and filling them with EVERYTHING I CAN GRAB. Lupin is excited, Elvis is annoyed, and in the time I took to write this Baby began sneaking Pucky some of her lunch. With any luck the boys will all be climbing box piles shortly!
OMC, Georgia, you must certainly be a pro at moving house! I myself have moved residences 5 times in the past 10 years so I feel your pain (both mentally and physically)! But at least I only had to move myself, my husband, and my kitty Whiskers while you have to move yourself, a husband, 2 kids, and 3 cats! Good luck with the move and hope everyone (and every cat) stays well and safe! I will send positive thoughts your way!
Georgia – that’s fantastic news for you and especially The Man! So important to live and work somewhere you really want to be. Of course we’ll miss you whilst you’re away, but family come first and we’ll survive! Looking forward to your triumphant return (hopefully before Christmas….) 🙂
First: Welcome Back to the NorthWet!!! I hope you occasionally can find time for an update here on the site.
Second: Sending along all the Good Luck I can scrape together for the ‘pitch’.
Hi Dew! I asked my editor last night if GoComics would run the old strips for me, and they will! I’m going to be setting that up sometime next week or the next, once the break starts. 🙂 (I love this idea, I do this myself whenever web comics I like have to take a break!)
LOL Georgia you and the man have moved a lot. I’m hoping you get back to the big pink house again.
Congratulations to the man on his new job. The boys must be getting use to moving, this will be number 4 for them I think. At least this one is not as long as a drive as the others.
Keep us posted on your new adventure and looking forward to new stories when you get settled.
Congratulations to the man on his new job, but oh, Georgia! Another move so soon? I’ve lived in the same house for 62 years. I can’t imagine moving even once let alone three times. Here’s hoping one you are settled again you can stay put for a good long time.
I’m sending positive thoughts for a smooth transition with minimum disruption to the lives of three cats and four humans. Also sending patience to all the BCN fans who have gotten spoiled by daily visits with our favorite felines only to find out we are going to have to go cold turkey for awhile. We will get through this!
We will miss you as a “near” neighbor (SoCal) and look forward to the reinstatement of BCN. Washington is a beautiful state and I can understand why you would want to move back there, especially since it’s where you met two of your fur children! Maybe this time you and yours can settle into a real house…perhaps a SMALL pink house!
Good luck with your move. May it go easily and smoothly for you and the gang. Come back when you can I will be here and I suspect most of the people here will remain. I love your strips and look forward to them continuing for a long time. You really are able to portray a cats life.
Like the cats, Georgia, you & the Man always seem to “land on your feet!” And the entire fan-base of BCN has backed you at every turn. But you’ve planned well so that no matter all the changes you & your family go thru, the big, pink house & all things cat-news-worthy remains the same. Therefore we will patiently wait to hear “the breaking news” as it happens (and, of course, all things regarding Elvis’s annoyance). Prayers going up for safe travels! God bless you-guys!!
I don’t envy you another move and I will really mis the new stories. However, I’m glad for your good news. Having a job that the man really loves and living where you want too, is the best life has to offer.
As for the missing ham, I wonder if someone put it in the fridge to keep little kitty cats out of it. I would do that because my three would have a feast and I’d have to clean it up later.
I will miss the new strips during the break. Having BCN daily has been such a comfort, as we lost one of our beloved kitties last week at just six years old. But I’m going to enjoy re-reading the whole run of BCN all over again for the upcoming months, probably a couple of times!
That ham was definitely hamburgled! 😉
I think they ought to let Elvis out of the closet now . . . surely he’s learned a little lesson? Besides, he’s the best with investigative journalism!
Georgia, that’s all WONDERFUL news!! You all are going to be some very experienced “world” travelers. lol!! As always, BEST of luck on your new adventure and looking forward to new adventures in the future!
Let Tommy in. He’s cold and wants ham if it’s found.
D’awww. I hadn’t realized I’d missed mooshy Tommy until now, but here he is, back in all his mooshiness! Cute! I’m also beginning to suspect that Lupin knows what happened to The Ham.
Wicket stuffy!!!
Why do all of the comment thingies I use delete the extra space between comments? Jeeze…
I wonder, will the ham have reappeared as mysteriously as it vanished?
Taking out Elvis’ part, this sounds like a poem.
The puns! The puns! My kingdom for the puns!
Loving the daily strip and the Case of the Missing Ham!
Awwwww… I love see the toddler cuddle with Owl. How cute!
Lupin hamming it up…
I’m guessing the Woman hid the ham in the oven, and will restore it to its place when it is nice and warm.
I love Lupin’s little fang showing in the last panel! And go find out what’s going on with the hamicide! That’s a cute picture of the toddler clutching his stuffed owl,
LOL on the hamicide. Poor Tommy, all he wanted to do was party. He looks fluffier here, maybe it’s because he has a different type of shirt on.
It’s all el-ham-mentary my dear Watson
I love the baby’s stuffed owl!
Ham-icide. How did we all miss such a hamned obvious pun?
I dunno, but Tommy at the window is rather ham-shaped…
The tapping paw is perfectly Elvis. And is Luke’s owl beginning to resemble The Wicked?
Hmm…I’m wondering if The Toddler has something to do with this.
Poor Elvis, having to prove he had no ham!
“Ham-i-cide” is brilliant!
Hahaha!! “Ham-icide.” hee hee!!
It might be getting lots more traffic? That of course would be a Really Good Thing.
Quick Lupin! Follow the aroma for ham to its source. Or maybe Puck needs to start sniffing breath…or whiskers
OK, I think I’ve got it.
The puns, the obsession with ham. Georgia has been kidnapped by Stephen Pastis of Pearls Before Swine.
We want her back, now.
D’you think she’d bring Pig and maybe the crocs?
I’m kind of surprised elvis didn’t say ‘NOW HAM IT!’
Aww, Toddler and his Owl. Didn’t realize before how much Owl looks like Wicket, does the wildlife retirement area of the sanctuary offer tours so Toddler and Wicket can meet?
Every strip is a work of art! I love this comic so much!
This mystery is positively delicious!
Georgia, what was the book that the Robber Mice girls were reading for their book club? Maybe “Green Eggs and Ham?”

How did we miss such an obvious pun? Well, I suppose we are hamhanded hamblers.
No, no – that’s not an owl, it’s the toddler’s penguin.
Well spotted!
I have some good news, and then some bad news, and then some good news!

I’m glad for the change if it’s what you all wanted. I hope this doesn’t mean Tommy, Baba Mouse, the upstairs cats, etc, will all be left behind.

Second: Sending along all the Good Luck I can scrape together for the ‘pitch’.
While you’re gone, I plan to go back to the very first strip and read one a day (If I can stop myself from binge reading)
I was wondering if GoComics had thought about running the old strips daily so the newcomers can get to know everyone.
Hi Dew! I asked my editor last night if GoComics would run the old strips for me, and they will! I’m going to be setting that up sometime next week or the next, once the break starts. 🙂 (I love this idea, I do this myself whenever web comics I like have to take a break!)
It’s A HAM-ICIDE !!!!!
I think you’re doing a wonderful job with the new format. I’m sure it was a rough transition, but you are so talented, I knew you could do it!!
LOL Georgia you and the man have moved a lot. I’m hoping you get back to the big pink house again.
