Hmm . . . while I’m quite worried for the robber mice, maybe I’m also wondering if Wicket realizes he hasn’t gotten two “normal” scared mice? I mean, these are Alice and Natasha!
As we have heard from Shakespeare, Ray Bradbury, a Harry Potter intro, and now perhaps Baba Mouse, “By the pricking of my thumbs, something Wicket this way comes.”
Why is June 28th circled on Puck’s calendar? I’ll bet Tillie will help, after all the mice let the Man to her so she could be reunited with Freddie. And there’s that image of them decorating her skull with flowers..And Natasha has her needles, I think. Too much excitement! This is worse than a letter from the sea!
Oh, Georgia, what a wonderful thing to reveal to us. I think Breaking Cat News has become my favorite because you so joyously share your passion for creating it (and not just because it’s totally fabulous!) ~ Victoria
I love that you’re still as enthusiastic and excited about your stories as we are, Georgia. Love that you have the sense, wonder and joy that little children have and that you never lost it!
Ah, Georgia! Besides being a skilled and wonderful artist, you’re revealing yourself as an excellent writer and storyteller. And, you’re finding (as many authors do) that the best stories often write themselves. The characters tell you what comes next and demand that you comply.
Dear Georgia,
I’ve been meaning to tell you that I pre-ordered your book at an indie bookstore that was not on your list! (Only Cornell Bookstore was listed for Ithaca, and that’s DEFINITELY not indie 🙂 ) anyhoo, I special-ordered it from Buffalo Street Books, a co-op of which I’m co-owner along with all the other folks that saved it from going out of business. Since they were curious about it, they ordered a second copy. Sold immediately. They ordered two more copies. Sold immediately. Five copies. Same story! So you apparently have all kinds of fans in Ithaca, New York.
Your cats and their breaking news mean so much to me, a crazy old cat lady with Lyme disease. You definitely channel cats! I’m down to three right now, a Russian Blue that came home with me from our no-kill shelter, and two lynx points (offspring of siamese and tabby), one of whom came from the same shelter, and one of whom I brought back with me from Uzbekistan in 2001. They often wonder why I laugh-cry reading your strips. Thank you so much! Liza
I am a little confused but looking forward to figuring it out as the story goes on. I /love/ Puck sleeping in the laundry, though. I have a boy who does that as well.
Oh Wicket, you are messing with the wrong mice!!!
I almost feel sorry for what he has coming his way. Almost…
What a wonderful surprise to see Tillie paying Puck a visit. I miss seeing their friendship (and I somehow feel like our sweet Puck probably misses his friend too).
If she didn’t drop it when Wicket swooped in for the grab, Agnes has her ‘sword’. I’ll use that to get me through the weekend. Sheesh!, Georgia. : ) Looks like the story will pick up on 7/4 and what with all the fire crackers, our kitty friends will have to be very brave to rush to the rescue. But I like the idea of the mice being gifts for our Baba and hopefully she still has her teeth. Or maybe this is Puck’s nightmare and soon all will be well with their (our) world. Please.
The artwork in panel 1 is beautiful.
I’m worried about those bad little mousies. But this always has a happy ending. Now I just have to wait through the weekend
And so nice to see Tillie
The white mouse has two big needles at her back. Hope she doesn’t poke stab Wicket while they’re still airborne. If he means them as a present for Baba Mouse he may get a surprise!
Must keep reminding myself what kind of comic this is…Those poor girls must be so freaked out! Baba Mouse is sure gonna give Wicket whatfor when she finds out about this.
I’m hoping to see Burt (nice, calm, and relaxed Burt) channel the spirit of Beau and go ‘Braveheart’ on a second-hand feather duster.
“Demon (owls) run when a good cat goes to war”
Love all the comments, but what is the meaning of the calendar & Tilly?? is this related to the robber mice & wicked Wicket??? I had been thinking that it was almost time for the June/July bug to make his yearly visit, IF he was able to get out of the vase. I agree with Aaron, this is your best cliffhanger yet Georgia! you are too too cruel 😉
— So that’s how our girls get around – through underground mice warrens! ~Pop~Puff~
— Will we ever find out who’s operating Camera One? My money’s on Baba Mouse!
— Agnes has 2 needle swords and Natasha seems to be carrying purple thread/rope wrapped around her waist and slung over one shoulder. Plus, one of Agnes’ arms was free when Wicket grabbed them. I think the Girls will be able to handle themselves after the initial shock wears off.
— I’m wondering if Wicket wasn’t intending them as a make-up-and-kiss gift for Baba Mouse. *If* so, he’s going to feel more than needle stabs in his feet when Baba Mouse is finished with him.
— How Puck, Tillie and the calendar dates figure into the story is beyond me and eagerly anticipated.
Georgia, I won’t write and say “You’ve done it again!” but instead, that you consistently and skillfully weave such wonderful, heartwarming, gripping story lines over and over!! Included in each strip are little Easter eggs to discover, prolonging the read of each strip as we delight over each one we find. And not just that but your art work! It’s obvious your art is treasured by your readers and a HUGE part of why we love Breaking Cat News so much. I seriously compare your art and stories to that of Beatrix Potter’s and I daresay will be as treasured and remembered (like hers is) when we’re all long gone. You are writing for future generations.
Georgia, does the poster’s name in cyan have a specific meaning? Your name, I think always is, but I see Victoria and Dr. Joe that color today. Monday’s had two of those, plus two others with that color. I’m only a part-time cat, but I’m totally curious.
Denny, I’m fairly sure it indicate the poster has included a web address in the Website URL field. Their name becomes the link to the website. Linking to the Breaking Cat News twitter feed as a test in this post.
And now, back to tense anticipation of the story development in the next broadcast.
Yes, Myles got it correct. If the poster includes a web address, their name appears in cyan, otherwise it’s red like all the other static text. Clicking or tapping on their name will follow that link to what is presumed to be their page. Of course, someone could put any website they wanted to in there. I, for instance, put in the GoComics address for BCN, just as a demonstration.
I’m so glad people are excited about poor Wicket grabbing the wrong mice to mess with.. If Baba doesn’t swat him with her broom, the mice will help him
Get the point….
(( thank you for this strip. Was reading this on my break at the airfield while
Taking motorcycle classes…)
Was it luck or some other sinister reason that camera one was trained on that particular spot when the possible hostages were taken, hmmmmm? Must confess I wasn’t too curious about the Camera one operator until now; Trevor, perhaps?
Anyway, it’s going to be a long wait until Monday!!
Georgia, can’t wait for the live stream this Saturday! I especially want to see how you are going to be able to keep from giving away the ending to this story line. hee hee hee.
Denny – When a poster’s name is highlighted in cyan, it is a link to that person’s website or where ever they direct you. For example, when you click on Georgia’s name, the link takes you to her website url. Hope this helps!
The cyan (or teal, as I think of it) text indicates a website link. When you post a comment, there is an optional field to enter a website address, and if someone puts one in (their own site, or blog, or what-have-you), it makes the name that color and links it to the site. Mine goes to my (terribly out-of-date) blog.
So much to ponder! Were Alice & Natasha grabbed to be a snack or to be a gift to Baba Mouse (who will not approve–she watches Our IX Lives with Natasha!). Or is Wicket taking them to have them break into a place for him…like the bookstore of a certain adorable polydactyl we know?
And what about Tillie and Puck? Does she know anything about the abduction or is this a separate thread? Does the flipping of the calendar signal the return of July Bug or was she just being helpful (it is the evening of June 30 after all…time to turn the calendar over)?
But all those thoughts paled next to a very cold feeling I just got. I was introducing Yet Another Friend to BCN (I’ve lost count how many I have done this for…) As part of that introduction, I directed my friend to the “About” tab to learn about the real-life counterparts of our heroes. And there, under Puck’s name, was Georgia’s speculation as to how he lost his leg: “We’re not certain how Puck’s leg was originally injured, no one really knows. A bird of prey was suggested, and our only clue seems to confirm that.” So help me, if Wicket had anything to do with that, I will help Natasha with her needlework!
Wicket, you should have read the Website! The mice have been written up as regular cast. That means they have script immunity. Better put them down before something nasty happens to you. You may be counting on Georgia being sweet and nice, but we readers are vicious. Does owl taste like chicken?
Aw, Gene. Play nice now! Personally, I really like Wicket. Maybe his soul is a mite tarnished but boy, is he a character. I hope he becomes a semi-regular as he adds an interesting contrast to the different characters. Take the Robber Mice – each one is different from her sisters but they’re not exactly model mice like Jennyanydots would’ve taught. But we love them! I hope I’m not the only one who thoroughly enjoys Wicket dashing personality.
Jennyanydots! That’s right! She will “train” them to dance”! Loved CATS. Saw it 3 times in Boston. I have TS Elliott’s “Old Possums Book of Practical Cats”.
I too am wondering about camera one. hmmmn. Wicket is in for it now! =^~^=
My cat Shatu (gone for 8 years) loved the laundry basket with fresh, warm laundry. As I came in the house with the laundry basket, I would announce laundry, laundry and Shatu would race from wherever he was and jump into the laundry basket. I always put one of their washed blankets on top so my laundry wouldn’t get hairy.
I love BCN! I enjoy quite a number of web-comics, but very, very few of them are worth buying in ‘dead tree’ version. I bought you book – and it is on loan for the 3rd time since I got it. I keep showing it to friends, too. But most of all, I read BCN, then I re-read it, to appreciate the art and cute in-jokes, added characters. Then I read the letters, because I adore the responses BCN provokes. THEN I go re-read BCN again! You are wonderful and I love what you share with us!
Somewhat off topic….
Am I the only one who desperately wants to give Baba Mouse some skritches on that wonderful old head and ears? (only with her permission, of course…)
RG, thank you. I was confused by the Pop and Puff and thought maybe those were markers indicating two unknown mice, but then the other readers recognized them, so I was *really* confused.
Jude, the only reason Wicket has a dashing personality is that he ran off.
I am not a Wicket fan though I suppose I could make a Wicket fan out of some feathers. I do not like Snowball either. I really do not like people^Wbeings who make things difficult for others.
OH MY CAT! Georgia, your cats are right! Here it is July 1st in Southeastern Arizona and the june bugs are all over my window screens! Now they are bouncing off the screens!
I did the live stream today, and got a peek at the draft daily strips. As an obsessed BCN fan, I can say, they look great. I found them almost indistinguishable from the ones we all already know and love, just portioned out to us in smaller, more frequent doses (Everyday is BCN day !!!!!! ) while giving our favorite cartoonist a much more manageable workload. I think this will also give us some back story on some of the characters, and a chance to pursue some great story lines. I also have to say that, watching her put together a single picture, and seeing all the incredible work that requires, I am shocked and awed…and even more grateful for these strips. I eagerly anticipate going daily and am looking forward to daily reports on all the news important to cats…like, dogs, mice, interns, and rumors of a kibble caper.
Hmm . . . while I’m quite worried for the robber mice, maybe I’m also wondering if Wicket realizes he hasn’t gotten two “normal” scared mice? I mean, these are Alice and Natasha!
Oh no, not our favorite rogues! That mean owl how dare he.
Uh, oh…Something Wicket this way comes!
That is the most awesome and appropriate comment!
I can’t improve over this.
Yes, very clever!
I am pretty much dying to tell you how very perfect this truly is… But all shall be revealed very shortly!
GASP!!
Oh no! I hope the robber mice are ok.
Monday cannot come fast enough!!
I completely agree! IS IT MONDAY YET????
Awesome. Best cliffhanger yet!
Thank you, Aaron!!! I’m tense leaving it here myself!! I had to immediately write two more strips the same night!
Oh, Georgia, what a wonderful thing to reveal to us. I think Breaking Cat News has become my favorite because you so joyously share your passion for creating it (and not just because it’s totally fabulous!) ~ Victoria

They often wonder why I laugh-cry reading your strips. Thank you so much! Liza
Thank you so much for telling me this, Liza! I’m so glad that you enjoy the strip the way you do, too, thank you for that as well. 😀
I live in Ithaca too. I will have to drop by Buffalo Street books and pick up a copy.
I am a little confused but looking forward to figuring it out as the story goes on. I /love/ Puck sleeping in the laundry, though. I have a boy who does that as well.
I think Wicket will find he has grabbed more than he can handle.
I worry both for the Robber Mice, and for what Baba Mouse is liable to do to Wicket!
Wow, Wicket, Robber Mice, Puck and Tillie! Looking forward to this story line. Wonder what role, if any, Baba Mouse and Burt might play in this?
Just curious, will we ever find out who is operating Camera One?
What? No. o.o AHHHHGGGHHHH
AHHHHHHH!! Not the robber mice!! (Kidding, I totally trust that they will not suffer a dire owl-y fate.)
Also… Tilly!!
Tillie!!!!! Squeeeee!!! 😀
Strangely I’m reminded of O. Henry’s story ‘The Ransom of Little Red Chief’. I expect Widget will have his claws full!
teensy quibble. Just “The Ransom of Red Chief” — no ‘little’.
As these events were caught on Camera One, won’t the team be able to show Baba Mouse what’s happened?
Do we still get a strip on Monday since it’s a US holiday?
Yes!! Never fear, there will be a strip on Monday!
Oh thank goodness!!! 😁
Please.
Natasha is the swordsmouse 🙂
I trust you won’t let anything terrible happen to Natasha and Alice but still . . . The tension is awful.
No! Not the robber mice! Although I am happy to see Puck’s friend has retuened!
Ghost cat and Puck was one of my favorite story lines ever. That and Elvis’ Great Escape.
Noooo, not the robber mice! Aarrgh! Why must I be left in this suspense?
Perhaps a rescue by our favorite flying ace, the June (July) bug?
Oh no, the mice!
The artwork in panel 1 is beautiful.
I’m worried about those bad little mousies. But this always has a happy ending. Now I just have to wait through the weekend
And so nice to see Tillie
Alice and Natasha appear suddenly above ground, with a *pop* and a poofy *puff*! I can hear them!
Ah, I see that Puck is being warned about noisy 4th! And I’m with those who think Baba Mouse will have something to say to Mr. Wicket!
I think the holiday will be extra special with the next toon! 🙂
Oh my Cat !!
The white mouse has two big needles at her back. Hope she doesn’t poke stab Wicket while they’re still airborne. If he means them as a present for Baba Mouse he may get a surprise!
Love camera one – nothing was stirring, not even a ….. oh!
Something tells me Wicket is playing a deeper game, that he didn’t just snatch the mice for food.
The borderless panels are exquisite. Darling Pucky 🙂
Oh oh, not the robber mice@!!
Are we obsessed readers or what! Can’t wait for Monday!
Must keep reminding myself what kind of comic this is…Those poor girls must be so freaked out! Baba Mouse is sure gonna give Wicket whatfor when she finds out about this.
Oh NO!! I knew it. That owl was not to be trusted.
BCN has made me smile, chuckle, laugh uproariously, snort my morning tea, sniffle, and cry. But this is the first time it made me “GASP!!”
I might have to stay up late (eastern time) to get Monday’s strip from Go Comics when it switches at Midnight Central time.
I’m hoping to see Burt (nice, calm, and relaxed Burt) channel the spirit of Beau and go ‘Braveheart’ on a second-hand feather duster.
“Demon (owls) run when a good cat goes to war”
“The owls are not what they seem.”
Please tell me we’re not getting two new ghosts in the cast… D:

Oops. Got our Robber Mice names mixed up. Those girls need name tags! 🐭
Do we have a robber mose hostage situation? Baba Mouse to the rescue! Hang on, ladies, help is on the way – and Tommy will be live on the scene!
Oh no! (laughs while saying that). I see you’re now giving Natasha red eyes now.
The Plot Thickens !!!
Georgia, does the poster’s name in cyan have a specific meaning? Your name, I think always is, but I see Victoria and Dr. Joe that color today. Monday’s had two of those, plus two others with that color. I’m only a part-time cat, but I’m totally curious.
I must confess, I do not know!
It’s a hyperlink. If you click on their name, it’ll take you to another site, likely their blog.

WHAT!!!!!!
Deep breath…
Perhaps Wicket grabbed the mice as a peace offering to Baba Mouse.
Ok, that makes sense.
She won’t eat them.
Right?
The turn of the calendar. Will the July Bug make a guest reappearance?
I trust Georgia to not make me cry over fictional robber mice. 🙀
It’s July, the season of the July bug!
Denny – When a poster’s name is highlighted in cyan, it is a link to that person’s website or where ever they direct you. For example, when you click on Georgia’s name, the link takes you to her website url. Hope this helps!
Re: name in cyan for those who provided a website URL when replying….
So clicking on these would take you to the commentators’ websites.
“Ransom of Red Chief” or “Cabin in the Sky” == which will it be?
The cyan (or teal, as I think of it) text indicates a website link. When you post a comment, there is an optional field to enter a website address, and if someone puts one in (their own site, or blog, or what-have-you), it makes the name that color and links it to the site. A bird of prey was suggested, and our only clue seems to confirm that.” So help me, if Wicket had anything to do with that, I will help Natasha with her needlework!
Beatrix deserves a bio on the “Meet Our Reporters” page! 😀
Hmm. June 28th. Last year, that was the day before the report about rainbows turning up everywhere. Is that why the day is circled on the calendar?
Wicket may be sorry he messed with the robber mice. Especially if Natasja and her sword get into the act.
I really love how just after Alice says “BAM! Never see it coming—”
SWOOP & SNATCH happen.
Wonderful comic/tragic timing, Georgia!
Wicket, you should have read the Website! The mice have been written up as regular cast. That means they have script immunity. Better put them down before something nasty happens to you. You may be counting on Georgia being sweet and nice, but we readers are vicious. Does owl taste like chicken?
Merch idea: a Wicket feather pillow.
“Does owl taste like chicken?”
Probably not – more like a slug in Wicket’s case. (Darn – I love owls otherwise – But not to eat.)
My guess is unwanted gift for Baba Mouse.
I hope Baba Mouse comes to their rescue! Nice to see Tillie again too..can’t wait til Monday.
My cat Shatu (gone for 8 years) loved the laundry basket with fresh, warm laundry. Am I the only one who desperately wants to give Baba Mouse some skritches on that wonderful old head and ears? (only with her permission, of course…)
I hope some how Tillie and Winifred can save the robber mice along with Puck. Maybe Baba can say thanks…but not “leave” with them. Please!!!!
Agreed Luis and more detail on the Robber mice now that we know their names and have an idea of their individual personalities.
I think i just made a noise so high that only dogs can hear it
none, so funny
RG, thank you. I was confused by the Pop and Puff and thought maybe those were markers indicating two unknown mice, but then the other readers recognized them, so I was *really* confused.

the one by “tensiometre”, that is
–Dave again
Thank you for catching that, David! I took it out. That was a sneaky one!
Maybe Natasha has red eyes because she has night goggles on so she can see in the dark.
We’re having another livestream today! And we are live! You can watch me ink and paint here: https://www.twitch.tv/georgiadunnstudio
It was fun. Thanks Georgia. Fingers crossed and good thoughts you can finish tonight. (lindacatsrule, Linda L on FB) Crescent City

Well that’s just wicket.
