Now I can go to sleep, I had my Breaking Cat News fix. 🙂 I am not sure I have ever had a June Bug in the house, but I have had the buzzing by screens and driving cats crazy before. Love Elvis protecting the baby.
Heeheehee!!! I love the little aviator glasses! Very nice swat on Elvis’s part – the great protector! A cicada got into our house once : it was unbelievably loud and completely freaked out the cats. We captured it in a metal waste can, which amplified the noise. Our response was the same: “let’s just put it outside!”
I love your comic and I love your june bug! The white scarf is the best! I want a comic with him and the cat outside (bad with names so sorry) hes my fave after puck but I love them all! Just a fyi roasted junebugs are tasty if you have a lot of then just roast em up and remove the legs and shells/wings and yum!
Elvis – my hero! I don’t know how you do it, but you capture the cats perfectly in every panel of every strip twice a week. You must have been a cat in a former life. I look forward to Mondays and Thursdays. Well done.
I work on the comic after my kids go to sleep and last night I lost a lot of work time because the Toddler is sadly dealing with an ear infection. I was able to make up some of the time late this afternoon, and finally finish painting this evening. I try to get as many strips posted earlier in the day as I can, but if something happens in the evening I have to usually wait until the next evening to catch up. :/
Oh, ick! I remember (and not fondly) my kids having ear infections when they were little. Thankfully they’re long past that now, and none the worse for wear. Hope yours is feeling better soon!
Poor little guy! Ear infections are not fun! Hope he’s feeling better soon. (Hate to say it, but my 7 year old was still getting them this past winter.) Let’s hear it for penicillin!
And this strip was awesome, as usual!
I honestly don’t care when you put these up, Georgia…I’m just so glad that you do! We haven’t had the pleasure of a June bug in awhile however we did get to enjoy a cicada that my little one brought in especially for me! How special did I feel? Wow…for me! After thanking her profusely, I tossed the horrific thing back outside BUT…my little darling fetched it back for me and re-presented it to me once again! Aren’t I the luckiest momma? O.O
I always get such a kick out of Lupin’s wry, almost sardonic, eyes, like in panel 4! And poor Pucky getting dive-bombed! But long live the King – Elvis the great protector!!
Can almost hear the June Bug’s maniacal laughter as he attempts to divebomb the Baby only to be thwarted by Brave Elvis!! Also loving Lupin’s face in the “Yup It’s Him” panel and poor Pucky’s poofy tail as the June Bug bounces on his head!
Sorry to hear about The Toddler’s ear infection, Georgia. As for the strip whenever it goes up it’s loved. I especially love the picture of the little critter and Lupin’s world weary expression.
Oh man, the close up of the June Bug is brilliant! Elvis as the baby’s courageous guardian is awesome, too. And yes, June bugs seem to be misnamed. I’ve been finding their little corpses on the floor lately. I’m not sure how they get in, but my kitty must be dealing with them since I never see them alive.
Great comic as always. Thanks so much for giving us humor and smiles twice a week.
I recently came across your strip on a friend’s Facebook page. You robbed me of several hours of good working time! 🙂 I recognize so much of my “boys” Ozzie and Jeoffry in your drawings. So congratulations: you’ve gained another fan!
He’s the greatest
He’s fantastic
Wherever there is danger he’ll be there
He’s the ace
He’s amazing
He’s the strongest, he’s the quickest, he’s the best
Sung to The tune of Danger Mouse for all those Brits of a certain age, you know who you are
Reminds me of the carpenter bee that greeted me as I tried to go out on the patio a month or so ago. Big shiny black thing just hovering around looking lost. I waited until it found its way out of the enclosed area and when I got out all the local ferals were sitting on their usual perches looking at me with huge eyes: “Did you *see* that! It was the size of a *school bus*!”
Geogia, the days I wake up and find a new Breaking Cat News alert in my inbox always start with a laugh and much better attitude leaving my own kitties and jumping into a workday. I thank you. My colleagues thank you. And my very Elvis-like flame point Meezer, Finwe, thanks particularly for showing the heroic nature of all Meezers. Have a great day!
Thank you, Diana! Incidentally, Elvis’s father was a flame point! A big, beautiful cream and orange male with blue eyes named Pinky. In the sunlight faint rings can be seen on Elvis’s tail, almost like a racoon!
I literally snorted coffee out my nose with this one – thank you! lol Love the ‘Red Baron’ style June bug and Elvis’ steadfast protection of the Baby. Yet another great strip!
NEVER apologize for taking care of your kid rather than posting to some arbitrary deadline. Those who love you and your work don’t NEED explanations; those who aren’t that interested couldn’t know what to do with the explanation anyway. A blessing on you and your household, two- and four-legged alike.
In the late 30s I had ear infections. Insane pain for a 3 year old, & huge
concern for Mom. I imagine getting back into the world of Breaking Cat News gave you a lift Georgia. Your characterization of family & felines are
a treasure for people who have cats. Shellie, my art director posts herself on my drawing table, has a message for you Georgia:
Oh no, sad, sad, sad I’m sure no pressures meant by most of the commentary. Of course family comes first that goes without saying. I for one run out of superlatives for this comic whatever time of day, or week it comes out, and express my ‘frustration’ tongue in cheek as a homage to its brilliance, and affection for the kitties, babies and humans in real and comic form, rather than as deadline demand. Oh no!
Our first cat, Peaches, a stray looking for a home, arrived during a 1985 June Bug invasion in Kansas. We thought of naming her June Bug, but with her colors Peaches was a better name.
Does anyone else have an earworm of “Snoopy and the Red Baron” after seeing that June bug’s goggles and mustache? (“10, 20, 30, 40, 50 or more, the Bloody Red Baron was rolling up the score…”) ;D (“Curse you, Red Baron!” — Snoopy)
Somehow, a grasshopper got in the house. Our boy had him treed near the living room ceiling, up on the top level of his tree, stretched up on the wall and growling. He stuck to that grasshopper like glue, and eventually got him under the coffee table. RIP grasshopper.
Here I come to save the day! That means that mighty Cats are on the way!! Everything about this one is awesome. And the new little one has the Man’s hair! So many funny details! Home run with this one, Georgia!!!!!
That is good one!
Why did you send that junebug to my house? my guy is chasing him right now.
Awww……. Elvis protecting little Guinevere <3 <3 <3
Go Elvis!!!! Evil little June (perhaps July ) bugs!
Now I can go to sleep, I had my Breaking Cat News fix. 🙂 I am not sure I have ever had a June Bug in the house, but I have had the buzzing by screens and driving cats crazy before. Love Elvis protecting the baby.
Go Elvis, YAY! Keeping the Baby safe from the June Bug (that once again forgot it’s July) and all of the Cats protecting the Family together. Yay!
Elvis the hero!
I love the ears in panel 13!
A familiar sight to all cat employees and so brilliantly done
omg, flight goggles! Only you could make a junebug adorable.
I love that last panel! Three cats (let alone just one) very interested in an object is never a good sign for us humans…
eee, the little helmet, scarf, and goggles!! and the MUSTACHE!
and elvis the protector, of course. hail to the king of baby protecting!
Ha ha!! Loved it, been waiting all day to see this. Good boy elvis, way to go!!!!
Wonderful strip, but I just want to say I love the family scene on the calendar!
Thank you!! We make photo calendars like that in real life, I couldn’t resist!
Elvis saves the day! That June bug must be the same one that bothered me the other night then got caught in my curly hair.
well THAT just sent all kinds of shivers up and down my person!!!
Worth waiting for!
Thank you!
I hope this doesn’t mean the death of Baron Von Junebug.
For their princess, those knights in furry armour will slay dragons… **love**
Elvis should have said “The June Bug has left the building!”
I love your Braking Cat News so much! It makes my heart happy. May your family thrive in happiness
Thank you!
Elvis – my hero! I don’t know how you do it, but you capture the cats perfectly in every panel of every strip twice a week. You must have been a cat in a former life. I look forward to Mondays and Thursdays. Well done.
Why was this put up so late?

Oh, ack! Hope your little is feeling better soon! Ear infections are horrible. =( Comics will wait. We will always be here.
As others have said, worth the wait and let’s face it, your family has to come first x Hope the little one is on the mend now xx
Oh, ick! I remember (and not fondly) my kids having ear infections when they were little. Thankfully they’re long past that now, and none the worse for wear. Hope yours is feeling better soon!
Ear infections are the worst. :/ I hope he feels better soon.

Good shot, Elvis! Bravo, protector of babygirls!

June bugs and horseshoe crabs, ugh. (Horseshoes crabs, in my mind are sea-June-bugs.) Hooray for heroic Elvis! 💕

You really are the best 🙂

LOL Love Elvis in his “defender” mode…
In dedication to Elvis’s bravery
He’s the greatest

The frame with the vase and cat ears is Essence of Cat. 🙂
So worth waiting for! Hope the Toddler is getting over that ear infection.
I knew the Bug was doomed when he headed for the cradle. Go Elvis!

Love Elvis racing off to get to Gwen before the June bug! Our hero (sigh)!
Dear Ms. Dunn,
NEVER apologize for taking care of your kid rather than posting to some arbitrary deadline. Those who love you and your work don’t NEED explanations; those who aren’t that interested couldn’t know what to do with the explanation anyway. A blessing on you and your household, two- and four-legged alike.
A grateful reader.
Thank you so very, very much Matthew!
Well said
Couldn’t help but think of this as I was reading. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtJ1Gnh9wPU
Where was Elvis when I had one of those brown things get in my ear???? Sooo very painful!

Gordon, I find this true in my own life.

(not sure if it showed up but I tried!)
I love how your calendar is accurate for July of 2015, even putting the 4th in red. Very nice picture of you guys on it, too!
Three points for Elvis!
“ABSOLUTELY NEVER!” is the new meme in my house.
<<< Sending tons of kitty "GET WELL SOON" thoughts to Toddler (and mom).

Aww, thank you Barbara! <3
Nobody,but NOBODY, touches that baby.
I love The Man flexing in the calendar picture for July!
Our first cat, Peaches, a stray looking for a home, arrived during a 1985 June Bug invasion in Kansas. We thought of naming her June Bug, but with her colors Peaches was a better name.
I forget just where I saw it, but someone mentioned a grandmother actually named: “Ima June Bugg”!
Thankyou! I recieved the first strip today by e-mail, the nicest message anyone could get!!!
Elvis to the rescue!
Elvis airborne in Panel 6 to outfly the June Bug-Baron to defend The Baby is as classic as Spitfires defending London from buzz bombs. A true Hero.
Haha, Elvis taking a bullet! Wonder if the june bug’ll be coming back next year. Maybe he’ll get the month right next time.
Don’t look in the vase.
Can we borrow Elvis to train our three kitties who just stare at the giant bugs we have occasionally here in North Carolina?!
When (not if) you make a BCN calendar you must have a June bug on the July page!
Surely we saw Lupin eat this bug when it was in the cupboard? Or was that Some Other Bug?
I think that was a cricket.
other bug, not June bug.
LOVE IT!!! By the Cat’s Whiskers! Then Elvis’ projectile smack… perfect end!
At least one other person, yes.
Somehow, a grasshopper got in the house. Our boy had him treed near the living room ceiling, up on the top level of his tree, stretched up on the wall and growling. He stuck to that grasshopper like glue, and eventually got him under the coffee table. RIP grasshopper.

Elvis saves the day!! This is wonderful, Georgia! Breaking Cat News is definitely my favorite news channel 🙂
My Grandma is dealing with an influx of these bugs at the moment, I sent her this to see and she cheered up instantly . . . thank you!
Panel four and panel fin. I’m dyin’!
