In real life, this is totally reversed. The boys are the ceiling cats, and our patient, understanding, fabulous downstairs neighbors tell us that Sir Figaro and Tabitha watch the ceiling intently during each “running of the cats.” Thank goodness they are cat people too! Our boys occasionally will follow something unseen through the floor, which I can only guess is a path Figaro or Tabitha happen to be taking at that moment. They pay a lot more attention to the floor since they moved in!
A good friend of mine originally from South America helps me to translate the ‘Gatos de Noticias’ dialogue. This was a tricky one, as ‘running of the cats’ was hard to translate literally and I wanted it to still sound pretty casual. I hope we came close! Many thanks, Francela!!!
I’m not competely fluent in Spanish, but ‘running of the bulls’ does translate as ‘encierro’, so maybe ‘al encierro felino’? Either way, it’s a great cartoon and got a belly laugh out of me!
Whenever I get notice of a new BCN, it makes my whole day. Many of your BCNs, such as the dueling lumps in the bed, appear to be lifted directly from my real life. Thank you for giving voice to the reality of the world of cats and for brightening my life!
I hope so! I would love to have their two little worlds clash together. The right scenario hasn’t quite come to me just yet, but I’m trying to keep it in my thoughts with the hope that it will!
Note: In real life, Elvis has been attempting a daily “dash-to-the-door-in-an-attempt-to-get-into-the-hallway” since the real Sir Figaro and Tabitha moved in downstairs. This may play a part… In the comic, or in reality, ha!
Despite the fact that we only have barn cats on the farm they still do this. Apparently the greenhouse roof is perfect for cat races in the wee hours and luring a paranoid human out into the cold and wet clutching a golf club…
I LOVE THIS! Gatos de Noticias is amazing. I’m venezuelan, so it’s specially funny to me when suddenly a strip has spanish dialogue. It makes me extra smile.
I have a beautiful and devilish cat called Nidalee that I love and adopted like 8 months ago when she was just 1 month old. Best.Decision.Ever.
And of course I can relate to 90% of all Breaking Cat News.

Regarding the boys meeting the ceiling cats, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if it turned out that Tommy the neighbor cat was bilingual and a bit of an ambassador.
Maybe Tommy could be a guest reporter covering that meet up. Or a freelance news kitty for an independent station. Anyway, I’m all for more Tommy. Especially when it means more Puffy Elvis. π
I knew it would be “The 2 AM Running of the Cats!” or as we call it: “The Kitty Olympics”. I love the Ceiling Cats almost as much as I love the boys. (And Tommy, of course.) π Adorable strip as always.
I love the little touches, like Tabitha having a little ‘M’ on her forehead. Because as you know, all tabby cats have a little ‘M’ on the foreheads, it’s like a warning for the 2 A.M. cat races….’M’ for Maniacal.

That actually means ‘the feline lockup’, so nope, she got it right. π
Hi Georgia, I think the translation you have as “carrera felina” is the most accurate and it’s perfect for the approach you were looking for.
Thank you so much!! And thanks again to Francela, this would never have translated so smoothly without her help!
Hi Georgia, i’m from south america too, and the comic is ok (: I love your boys
You’re a GENIUS!
Totally agree – absolute GENIUS. Best comic award ever!
I sincerely hope that you’ve introduced your neighbors to the ceiling cats in the comic looool
Haha!! Yes, yes! Very luckily, we happen to be friends–even before we were neighbors, we knew each other as friends! They are terrific!
“what are their dreams?” SO CUTE
We don’t see Elvis smile much but when we do it’s worth the wait. Another great strip! Keep them coming.
Ohhh, sweet Puck! He captures my heart every time!!
Ohhhh, sweet Puck! Once again he has captured my heart with his beautiful soul and adorable face!!

You’re welcome! Thank you so much for enjoying the comic, Jill! π
Will the boys meet the ceiling cats in the future? I can just see Elvis flipping out over the strange language the other cats talk.
I hope so! I would love to have their two little worlds clash together. The right scenario hasn’t quite come to me just yet, but I’m trying to keep it in my thoughts with the hope that it will!

I’m in love. I can’t wait for more involving the Spanish language version of BCN!!!
My co-worker noticed that the two GN comics are exactly a month apart. Coincidence or are you setting up a tradition?
Ooh! That was a coincidence, I admit… But it wouldn’t be a bad tradition! π
“We’ve got a Cat close to the scene.” The mash-up of cat true focus and newscaster faux commitment is perfect!
Regarding the boys meeting the ceiling cats, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if it turned out that Tommy the neighbor cat was bilingual and a bit of an ambassador.
Oooo! Nice idea.
Maybe Tommy could be a guest reporter covering that meet up. Or a freelance news kitty for an independent station. Anyway, I’m all for more Tommy. Especially when it means more Puffy Elvis. π
So good, as always π
I just frantically checked the strip because I had a “OMG, Did I write ‘GN’ instead of ‘CN’ on the mic? Did I forget???” I did write it! I did. Whew!
I love the idea of a bilingual Tommy – yet another reason for Elvis to puff!
Elvis admiring ‘spunk’ is a new fave π
I won’t say too much… But I don’t think you will be disappointed! π

Fantastic as always! Puck continues to be my favorite – he’s just such a sweetie! “What are your dreams?” D’awww…
Proving that the “2 a.m. Running of the Cats” is a universal phenomenon and loved the world over.
