However, breaking cat news will be a local cat news
The ceiling cats, the barn cats, Tommy, Beatrix.
If she goes at least give her a microphone and a camera.
Now we finally know where the Woman gets most of her plants from! Isn’t it wonderful to have a friend with a green thumb? Does this mean Beatrix has green paws?
Some of you already know, but if you don’t, Breaking Cat News’ first book is coming out on May 10th!!! I have added buttons to the right of this page where folks can pre-order their copies, if they wish! I am terribly excited about this, and hope you are too!
I so dearly love your comic. I originally found you over on gocomics.com, and then found the current feed. I introduced the strip to some friends via Facebook, and now at least a couple of them follow you, too (including one in Catalonia).
I have never in my life of loving comics seen such appealing characters so sweetly drawn and painted. It brings tears to my eyes, at this time when everyone in the news seems so odious. Life is simple when we know that there is only time for love and sharing and kindness. You are truly my hero ,Georgia Dunn. Thank you for gracing the internet with your extraordinary art, and for reminding us of all the young couples, their young children, neighbors, and friends who live and love well.
I already placed a pre-order in for your book Georgia and can’t wait for it. I would love to see some more of Beatrix’s adventures with the boys, but every real bookstore needs a cat. I’m sure Burt can set up a CN affiliate in the bookstore, where there are plenty of shelves for Beatrix to climb on.
Oh, I don’t want Beatrix to go to the book shop – not yet, anyway! We’re just getting to know (and love) her! That said, it’s absolutely true that every bookstore needs at least one cat….
Especially a secondhand bookstore. I’ve been saying for years: “The mark of a good used book store is chairs everywhere so you can sit down and leaf through what you’ve found; the mark of a *great* used book store is that *some* of those chairs are unavailable because there are cats sleeping on them.”
Nippy likes to greet the music students when they come to lessons. When someone comes up the driveway, “meow, meow” to alert me there’s someone there. Then he smells everything (feet, cases, coats) thoroughly. We tell everyone that all visitors get a CAT scan!
As soon as I saw Bea greeting the visitor I knew where Bea’d be moving off to. I KNOW she’s gonna have a great home, but dangit, I wanted her to stay with the boys! Let’s see…close enough to the farm for Mouse to visit (and can’t wait to see Baba Mouse meet Kitten Bea) and someone in residence named “Trevor” who might not approve a cat. Will Beatrix be moving in with the doggie we met a few days back?
If Beatrix goes to the bookstore…you know we’ll need a few “trips to the store”.
😉
It’s unfortunate that you cannot take all the kitties with you when you go out. At least, I cannot take mine. If the see the cat carrier it’s HIDE time.
No, no, NO! Don’t let Beatrix go!!! I’m far too attached to her already. Perhaps let her ‘work’ at the bookstore during working hours but live at the same home with the Boys. Elvis will never forgive his own little protégé going to another home. 😢
I know some folks are already very worried that we will be losing Beatrix in the comic… I don’t want to give spoilers… But we’re all sort of “fostering” her character together here and on this ride together, so I do want to say I think folks will enjoy where this goes. I hope so, anyway.
Okay – calmer now.
Thanks for the reassurance that Beatrix will be fostered for a while still and that you’ve got a plan laid out for our favourite little fuzzy polydactyl. That kind of sounds like she’s a dinosaur though a cute fuzzy one! 😀
I should’ve just trusted you to begin with, Georgia. You’ve never ever let us down or failed us before and I know you won’t this time either! Besides, this is YOUR story and we’re along for the fun-filled ride but we’re not the writers. I guess I had a gut reaction ’cause it sort of feels like that sweet baby’s mine a little too.
She was. 🙂 She was a wonderful climber too, and often climbed the Man just as she is climbing the Woman who owns the bookstore in this strip. She was a marvelous little cat!
Panel 12, “Oh my cat…ALL WEEK!”, is SO CUTE!!!
The references to Baba Mouse and Tommy are sweet 😀
Ann, is what you are getting at is that you think Trevor is the dog we met? That hadn’t dawned on me until I read your post. Now I’m almost certain of it.
It’s clear the woman who owns the bookstore lives nearby. Even if she becomes Beatrix’s human, the boys would still see her all the time.
Beatrix is the busiest little creature I ever did see! She is so outgoing she would make an excellent bookstore cat because she is such a meet and greeter. It certainly makes sense that Trevor could be the Dog that Bea gave the cup of Earl Grey tea too a few days ago. All kinds of possibilities that expand the BCN world!
She’d definitely be the gardening expert. Sophie would easily be the literature expert if only she’d take her nose out of a book long enough to say more than “Not now, Thomas”! (Although there was that bit with the refrigerator magnets, so Sophie might be the Eye on Art.)
“Someone at the door,Drop to the floor!”Good advice, Puck! We have Fancy Dancer, who is our Watchcat. When there is a delivery or anyone approaches our house in the driveway, Fancy will start mumbling as she goes from window to window alerting us that a stranger is near. Usually the postman or a FedEx delivery. We and Fancy eagerly await the arrival of the BCN book which we have just pre-ordered! Of course, Fancy will alert us the moment the delivery person comes!
Do you have a local independent bookshop? If they ship orders out of town we could order it from them, and when they get the books from their distributor you could add your signature before the individual customer orders go out. It’s not as thematically elegant as a donation to a shelter, but I’m a big fan of supporting independent booksellers too!
I am glad that Beatrix is not leaving us yet, but can’t wait to see where this goes. I’m she’ll find the place and family that is perfect for her. This is another great comic.
Was that Buzzy mouse under the bed with Puck? Haven’t seen much of him lately! Beatrix is such a terrific addition to the family–it would be a shame to see her go…although for plot development it might be great! Either way, Georgia, your strip continues to amaze each and every time it hits my inbox. And we pre-ordered your book already…so much looking forward to it!
If Beatrix does move to the bookstore, I trust Burt or somebody will provide us with frequent video-bulletins so we can follow her brilliant literary career.
Love Bea’s paws. They look like little baseball gloves. Just to let you know Georgia, I’ve pre-ordered 3 books from Amazon. Can’t wait for the book to be in my hand. I think you’ll have a best-selling book.
I preordered my book the day you announced it and just ordered another for our wonderful cat stitter who is expecting her his grand baby. I figure it will make for good shared reading when her granddaughter becomes visual.
Oh No! The boys would be devastated to lose their clever little intern. Perhaps I am internalizing our recent loss of the 17 year old Bat Cat whose demise was greatly softened by the adoption of Mr. Whiskers … the DOA kitten that came into the shelter late last fall. I decided he had to come home and spend some time with Bat before the end. He and our German Shepard have become fast friends. Anyway Georgia, I truly hope we continue to have Beatrix in BCN even if she (understandably) in real life goes to a new home. Thank you for making so many days brighter.
I have never waited for the next episode of a comic strip with such anticipation, keep up the wonderful work. It’s tough waiting for my book to come. Yes I would love an autographed copy!
OH MY CAT! Don’t I wish that my two would hit the floor when visitors come by. The other day we had the cable guy in and both Fido and O’Malley had to ‘supervise’ every move. Up close and personal, if you get my drift. I finally had to snag them and shut the bedroom door. And let me tell you, when they were released, did I ever get the tail swishes…
Book is pre-ordered, and I’ll also add my name to whatever it takes for the autograph (some nice SoCal lo-Cal…)
Me too if Trevor is who I think he is – a perfect match! He’ll have too much fun to worry about snakes – who knows – Beatrix may even teach him to like them. And she’ll be keeping track of the boys – she can sneak in and out of the pink house (seemingly) without detection. At first I was thinking ‘nope, nope, nope’ but now I’m thinking ‘hope, hope, hope.
My other comment didn’t post: Mippy likes to greet the students when they come in, and meows when they come up the driveway to alert me. Then he thoroughly sniffs feet, shoes, cases, coats. We tell people that everyone who comes in gets a CAT scan
Aaah, bookstore talk for RELEASE ANNOUNCEMENT! Have excitedly pre-ordered three copies! One for me, two as gifts! You know how long I’ve been waiting!!! X-D. Thanks so much for your life-enhancing comics!
I love Puck’s recommendation “someone at the door, drop to the floor”. Sort of along the lines of the PSA about vacuums: “if it’s not a broom, leave the room”. So, will we get a PSA about doors and visitors?
“ancient little grey cat”? Baba Mouse I presume? I reconciled myself from the beginning that Beatrix wouldn’t be around forever but hope for frequent guest appearances. She can be the correspondent for the book store! And am hopeful that Trevor is her new dog friend.
I hope you keep Beatrix in the Breaking Cat News Room Georgia.
As she is a a Maine Coon Cat/Norwegian Forest Cat I think she
deserves a place in the CN newsroom offices.
Hard working Interns eventually are lucky enough sometimes become members of the “firm”.
I love Norwegian Forest Cats and Maine Coon Cats, many folks have said they are one and the same. My wife mentioned that Marie Antionette was responsible for the Maine Coone Cat coming to the colonies before she met her end during the French revolution which was also known as “The Terrors”.
So the husband and I are having a debate about Beatrix pawses. I’m insisting she’s got dual thumbs on her forepaws, and six little jellybean toes, he says five and one bulky thumb each. This strip gave us the best view but he’s still unconvinced. Is there an official count?
I love all the little details in every strip, like Beatrix having to hand Lupin a bulletin about the doorbell because he’s deaf and can’t hear it himself. I can read the strip several times and catch a something new each time. Every strip is so well though out!
Wandered in to check if 3/11/16’s strip was posted yet, west coast time frustrates me, but better Breaking Cat News late than never. Anyhow, I reread last Friday’s strip and the reread April 1st strip. If “The Dog” is “Trevor” I believe Beatrix has found a forever home. 😉
Bottom half of this comic will not load, whether I approach it from the e-mail, or from further back in the episode queue. Please put Beatrix on this, as she is the most tech-savvy!
I’m so sorry that is happening! I don’t know why that would be, the file for this strip isn’t a different size or whatnot from the others. 🙁 I wish I had an answer for you!
Aww, we don’t have to lose the intern that quickly, do we?
Please keep her!
Please, please, please keep her Georgia, at least tell us she’ll visit as intern.
Kittens are so cute that I would never sell one, especially those who are used to you.
However, breaking cat news will be a local cat news
The ceiling cats, the barn cats, Tommy, Beatrix.
If she goes at least give her a microphone and a camera.
Almost forgot Sophie!
Almost forgot Sophie!
Silly me.
Mixed feelings. Looks like Beatrix would be happy to be a bookstore cat, but I would like her to stay with the guys.
It’s already on our wishlist 🙂 Can’t wait!!!
And it also seems that we now know whose shed Tommy spent the winter in with Elvis 🙂
Well, Tommy for a year or two and Elvis for a week.
I’ve already ordered my copy! I’m looking forward to having my favorite strips at my fingertips.
Yay!!! I’ve been waiting since I found out about BCN to be able to get a book! 🙂
Pre ordered! Can’t wait! Really fun to see the earlier comics!
Can’t wait!!!! I adore those buttons! I love Lupin sitting on the laptop with Amazon on the screen!
Georgia, which book option do I choose to make sure you personally get paid the most? Or are they all the same?
I like amazon but don’t want a cheaper price if it comes out of your pocket.
Thank you very much, Stephen! This is a very sweet thing to consider! They are all the same. 🙂
I’ll miss Beatrix too much if she leaves! She would make a good bookstore cat, though.
I wonder if Trevor like Earl Grey tea.
Aww, loved the tie-in to Tommy’s stay during the Xmas special from two years ago.
And I bet we know now whose greenhouse Tommy was sheltering in . . . ?
I so dearly love your comic. I originally found you over on gocomics.com, and then found the current feed. I introduced the strip to some friends via Facebook, and now at least a couple of them follow you, too (including one in Catalonia).
Keep up the wonderful work!
Thank you, Karen!
“Oh, my cat!” I hope Beatrix isn’t leaving the guys.
As nice as it would be for Beatrix to get a home, I really want her to stay with the guys.
I preordered my copy a while ago.
I have never in my life of loving comics seen such appealing characters so sweetly drawn and painted. It brings tears to my eyes, at this time when everyone in the news seems so odious. Thank you for gracing the internet with your extraordinary art, and for reminding us of all the young couples, their young children, neighbors, and friends who live and love well.
Thank you so, so much Gretchen! <3
My human and I TOTALLY agree with and echo Gretchen’s words!!
I already placed a pre-order in for your book Georgia and can’t wait for it. I would love to see some more of Beatrix’s adventures with the boys, but every real bookstore needs a cat. I love this observation! 🙂
My cat Maxie would definitely agree with Puck in panel 2. If the doorbell rings she disappears I usually don’t see her for quite some time afterwards.
My boys would go slinking down the hall to hide -before- the doorbell rang. That’s how I knew in advance that it was about to! 🙂
Nippy likes to greet the music students when they come to lessons. When someone comes up the driveway, “meow, meow” to alert me there’s someone there. Then he smells everything (feet, cases, coats) thoroughly. We tell everyone that all visitors get a CAT scan!

Will Beatrix be moving in with the doggie we met a few days back?
Oh my gosh – if that was Trevor, they are already pals.
I really like your profile picture of the Blitty. Also, perhaps “Trevor” will appreciate earl gray tea!
Thanks, Jim! You’re the first person who’s let me know they recognize the source!
These are always so delightful — laughing and tearing up at the same time!
Okay, I’ve not even made it past the second panel! That is so much like my two girl kitties.
If Beatrix goes to the bookstore…you know we’ll need a few “trips to the store”.
😉
It’s unfortunate that you cannot take all the kitties with you when you go out. At least, I cannot take mine. If the see the cat carrier it’s HIDE time.
Aha, Trevor may be “‘the Dog'”, in “Breaking Dog News”!
I can live with Beatrix becoming the book store’s resident cat, as long as she comes along whenever The Woman has a book delivery.
Love BCN ! I would very much like a signed copy. Need to send $ for 3 signed copies. 1 for Lizzie 1 for Nee and of course me.
I love that Beatrix may have a forever home.
No, no, NO! Don’t let Beatrix go!!! I’m far too attached to her already. Perhaps let her ‘work’ at the bookstore during working hours but live at the same home with the Boys. Elvis will never forgive his own little protégé going to another home. 😢
Thanks for another wonderful story! It’s always a lift when I see the alert show up for a new comic! <3
Noreen – some of my friends take their furbabies out in pet strollers !
Was wondering if Trevor was a dog or her partner !
*sniff* another great cartoon…
Don’t take Beatrix!!! Take Sophie!!
( gets chased by BCN Sophie fans )
This made me laugh right out loud–though I love all the characters, really, but that cracked me up!!
Lol! Sophie is a little bit of a jerk, yes…
My purrception is that, logically Sophie is a born bookstore cat, she always has a book in her paws. Thus, she would feel at home in a bookstore…
Oh no! Please Keep Beloved Sophie I love quiet Shy Cats
I agree. A bookstore would be her ideal place anyway. She could be aloof and artistic in a bookstore. People would admire her, but not get too close.
I know some folks are already very worried that we will be losing Beatrix in the comic… I don’t want to give spoilers… But we’re all sort of “fostering” her character together here and on this ride together, so I do want to say I think folks will enjoy where this goes. I hope so, anyway.
And fostering time is not over! 🙂
PHEW!
No worries. I know you love Beatrix as much as we do.
Was the original Beatrix as energetic as cartoon Beatrix?
So Baba Mouse IS a cat? I am so confused! She looks like a cat but she lives with the mice.
She’s a cat alright. I think she’s just too old to chase the mice any more, so instead she just tries to keep them from getting into too much trouble.
Thanks for the explanation…the name Baba mouse confused me.
I love the reference to Tommy – the cat who spent the winter in her greenhouse!
Looks like the BCN “Universe” just expanded, and gave Bea an opening to meet some of the other characters. 😺
I’m sure Burt can hook a remote up for Beatrix at the bookstore. She can be the gardening and literature correspondent.
She’d definitely be the gardening expert. Sophie would easily be the literature expert if only she’d take her nose out of a book long enough to say more than “Not now, Thomas”! (Although there was that bit with the refrigerator magnets, so Sophie might be the Eye on Art.)
That’s a good fit for our fuzzy kitten!
THis has probably been said already but I have to get it our of my head:
BabaMouse visits her and it was her greenhouse Tommy was living in…IT IS ALL COMING TOGETHER.
(PS, love the reference to “your books coming in”!)
Pre-ordered your book, can’t wait.
With those huge paws…Beatrix has 4 green thumbs!! Maybe when she mellows a bit (or starts drinking decaf) she’ll be ready for the bookstore?
How do we get our copy signed?
Maybe a contribution to local shelter?
I’m still thinking out a way to offer that for folks! 🙂
That would be wonderful – I’d love to have a signed one!
Us too! *waves hand furiously*
Maybe a signed bookplate (sticker) to put in books received directly from the stores?
A reader on Twitter suggested this too–it seems like a great idea!
Ever the optimist, I figure if Beatrix eventually goes to the bookstore lady, Burt would just establish a regular remote news feed from there.
Ha! A woman who thought “baseball gloves”, and I’m a man who’s first thought was “oven mitts!” 🙂 🙂 🙂
Ooooohh, oven mitts or baseball gloves
I’ve pre-ordered your book. I adore Beatrix! I’d like to be able to see her in every strip.
I preordered my book the day you announced it and just ordered another for our wonderful cat stitter who is expecting her his grand baby. I figure it will make for good shared reading when her granddaughter becomes visual.
Bea would make wonderful bookstore cat!
“Sometimes he swipes at company.” Especially when it’s ‘The Intruder’!
Beatrix is the cutest little thing ever. If only all interns were as good as her!! lol
lol at Elvis’s angry letter. “How dare you lay this insult upon me.” XD
Ahhh! So it was HER green house Tommy was sheltering in! 😀
Ordered my book and one for an 11-year old.
Second panel. Is the Baby holding her nose because the bookstore woman smells musty or is she flashing a gang sign? Either works for me. 🙂
Haha! Just teething on her fingers. She does this often these days! 🙂
“Mippy” stupid auto correct!
Ok, ok, I think I see where you’re going, and I’m really excited to see it play out.
I love Beatrix’s faces of wide-eyed kittenish exuberance! She’s interested in everything and in charge of everything at once. So much to do!
New book ordered and will be cherished.
As a bookseller who works in a shop proudly graced by feline presence, I agree that Beatrix would make a fantastic bookstore cat!
pre=ordered your book today on Amazon. Thanks for the link & we are looking forward to getting it. First found BCN a few months ago & we love it!
“ancient little grey cat”? Baba Mouse I presume? I reconciled myself from the beginning that Beatrix wouldn’t be around forever but hope for frequent guest appearances. She can be the correspondent for the book store! And am hopeful that Trevor is her new dog friend.
Oh, my Cat! yes, I hope we get to hear some book store tales!
So many favorites! Love little Bea getting chin scritches from her new friend in second to last panel.
No not Beatrix!
I think Beatrix is a great deal like Tillie must have been as a kitten. I expect great things from her.
In panel two, I imagine “everybody do the dinosaur’ after the text. Though I didn’t know dinosaurs hid under the bed. Thanks for that.
“At least the Human Interns can get paid now”
So the husband and I are having a debate about Beatrix pawses. I’m insisting she’s got dual thumbs on her forepaws, and six little jellybean toes, he says five and one bulky thumb each. This strip gave us the best view but he’s still unconvinced. Is there an official count?
Not yet! I draw as many as I can squeeze in… And any extras may be lost in the fluff. 😀
Oh my gosh, I totally missed spotting Intern Beatrix in the first panel! How could eye have done that?
I just noticed that the Baby sucks her fingers just like me and my younger sister did ^-^
I love all the little details in every strip, like Beatrix having to hand Lupin a bulletin about the doorbell because he’s deaf and can’t hear it himself.
I can’t get the image for this comic to load at all! Apparently Monday’s won’t either. I hope this is fixed soon, important things are happening!
I’m so sorry that is happening! I don’t know why that would be, the file for this strip isn’t a different size or whatnot from the others. 🙁 I wish I had an answer for you!
I was able to see the April 11 strip when it was first posted, but all I can see now is a little bit at the top with the rest just a black rectangle.
That’s the extra toe on Beatrix. A green toe!
