We are safe and sound and living in California after our big move. Thank you for your patience, and all the comments, messages, emails, tweets, and posts of encouragement and support this past month! We’re not *quite* settled, we are still in corporate housing, looking for a new apartment here. However, I have been getting stir crazy in the evenings, and wanted to start working again! Working on the comic for me is very relaxing, and feels like a nice slice of “normal” after so much change!
The boys are all settling in very well, and they’ve taken this move in stride! Even Elvis! In fact, Elvis seems happier and a little more relaxed out here… Maybe he’s a west coast kitty at heart. (Puck and Lupin of course, are actually west coast kitties, each were born in Washington state).
I decided to pick the comic up right where it left off, because remember–nothing in the comic is going to change! The comic will stay in the Big Pink House; Tommy and Sophie are still just a few blocks away, Tabitha and Sir Figaro are still upstairs, Burt, Baba Mouse, and the Robber Mice are still on the farm through the woods (just follow the stone wall).
Thank you again for being so supportive and wonderfully kind. If you’ve missed the comic, I have missed writing it!
(Also, yes, these are the real names the Toddler has given the cats).
So happy to hear you’re doing well and that the comic brings you a sense of normalcy in what sounds like a still on-going re-nesting process. Best of luck in finding new digs and soon!
Hope Lupin doesn’t develop a split personality/identity crisis over being referred to as another, completely different, cat π
You’re back! You’re back! You’rebackyou’rebackyou’reback! *happydance*
Oh how I’ve missed you – the best part of Monday!
I am seriously getting teary, here. Glad the move went well and everyone took it in stride. So so glad you’re back!
So happy to see the strip back! Glad you’re getting settled in, Georgia. Hope you find a new home soon. Does the Toddler really use these names for the boys? Elvis seems delighted by his.
He does!! Puck’s name is the most puzzling; though when Toddler compares a tall something and a short something, often the tall thing is called “Dad” as a descriptor, and the short thing is called “Mom.” (The Man is 6’3″ and I am 5’2″). We think he is comparing their sizes, and Elvis is a pretty big cat. No idea why Lupin is Puck though (occasionally the other two are also Puck, but he definitely has assigned the name Puck mostly to Lupin).
So happy for new comics again – welcome back! And glad to read that all is good in California. Just curious, what is the “man’s” new work? Will his work ever appear in the strip?
In real life the Man is a video editor! He makes commercials, trailers, oversees broadcasts, etc. (In fact, everything you see Burt do in the comic is really similar to what the Man does during live stream broadcasts he works on!) He also occasionally does pixel art for video games. It may come into the comic! I’ve never explained it in the comic, but in my head the boys “borrow” a lot of his video equipment for their broadcasts. π
Yay! Our boys are back! Glad to hear everything went well and everyone is settling in ok! It’s always so stressful to move and kitties can be difficult! Yay! Welcome back, Georgia!!!!!!!!
Hooray!!! And there is much rejoicing about the land! Welcome back and what an adorable restart. ohhhh the words that are going to start pouring out! the boys better be ready! Poor Puck. Another BCNism that has taking hold besides a jolly “not NOW Lupin!” We often find ourselves in the position of walking around mournfully saying, “I’m a boy, don’t they *know* I’m a boy?” lol. Hilarious on many levels here. Eve and Shell are waving madly at California!
Welcome back! I really missed the gang. It’s the only news I pay any attention to any more. So glad your move has gone smoothly and all are adapting to the changes.
Hello Georgia! This is my first time commenting so pardon the fan-boy gush– I LOVE YOUR COMIC! GENIUS! GOLD! EVERY TIME! My wife loves it too!
Okay, I am calm now.
Just wanted to say we moved out to the West Coast (Oregon) five years ago, bringing with us nine cats. All of them adjusted quickly and yes, the more highly strung of them mellowed considerably. The ‘Coast just might have that effect.
This is the epitome of toddler-hood. Thanks for the Monday morning laugh. Our 2 year old is struggling with the fact that we have 2, fairly identical, brown labs with only a slight difference in size. He understands that there is a Drake and an Elena but as to which is which he cannot tell you. Also, we call Elena ‘Girlie’ a lot and I think Toddler believes that to be synonymous with ‘doggie.’ Drake feels you, Puck #ImaBoy
Welcome back! So glad that you’ve settled in and People and Cats are doing well! Also happy that you took out your paints — it’s nice to see the boys again! I love Elvis in Panel 9!
On behalf of all of us, welcome back!
It’s here!…and our journey through the long dark January tunnel of no BCN is at last over! So glad the move went as well as could be expected — you do realize you moved out just before that monster snowstorm hit us on the east coast — and here’s high hopes for your finding more permanent digs soon.
Also wanted to note the stunning photo of Lupin you posted on FB…what a beautiful animal.
Welcome back and so glad everyone is settling into California life. We have a black cat very much like your Puck. His name is Schmoo. To my 7 year old, every black cat is, and I suspect will always be, named Schmoo. For years, every cat was Schmoo, although that’s starting to fade some. Enjoy this time – it goes quickly!
What a great strip for your return! I love this.
In real life, do your reporters know their names? Some of our cats have obvious recognized their names, but more do not, or at least do not show it.
Elvis and Puck do, Lupin knows hand gestures for himself but sadly does not hear his name, being deaf (and having no teleprompter in real life). In real life, Elvis in particular is marvelously trained and follows short commands very well. Puck knows his name and will come when called, but he is a little more mellow when it comes to anything else. I never did anything special for Elvis, he is just very much a “Type A” personality, HA! And Lupin knows several signs and he is excellent at coming when summoned with those signs.
My husband successfully used hand signals for his deaf cat, then taught it to the next three cats. The current cats, sad to say, are either not as smart as their predecessors were or they just do not care! I’m going with not caring, but they’re still young, so we’ll see!
P.S. Soooo glad you’re back – really missed the boys!
Welcome back! I’m glad the move went well. (My mother’s most stressful move was with four kids, one of whom was 3 weeks old and it took place between Thanksgiving and Christmas… good thing she was a pro by then. We moved a lot while I was growing up.) One of the most important things is to get back something that’s ‘normal’ after such upheaval… selfishly, I’m happy that one of your normals is doing the comic.
Elvis’ reaction to the move is really interesting. Maybe he’s just happy to leave Lovecraft Country behind for the West Coast? Who knows? I’m particularly glad we won’t be losing any of our cast of characters since they’re all so wonderful.
As to today’s strip… ah yes… the joys of Toddler Speak. He’ll get it all worked out. Puck is easiest to say, one syllable, no tricksy r’s or l’s or anything like that so it makes sense that it’s the name he uses other than ‘Dad Cat’ and ‘Mom Cat.’
I cannot tell you how much I appreciated the last panel with Lupin sitting on the Toddler’s rump. This is how my Lily girl likes to sleep on me. π Glad everyone’s settling in, and I’m so excited to see the new comic!
Wow! New comics! I’m so glad. You got the move out of the way faster than I thought possible. Elvis as Dad Cat cracks me up. And Lupin is really put out with being named Puck. Great new beginning.
Welcome back, and congratulations on The Man’s new job!
Hope y’all get settled in quickly.
My kids, husband, and I were all having withdrawals from your comic! (But we still got our fix from gocomics, so we survived!)
Thanks again for your awesome art.
Love The Toddler’s names for the cats. Aren’t kids adorable when they start really talking and naming things based on their own observations?
Absolutely!! We have to move out of corporate housing first and get a new apartment set up a bit before it’s possible, but I have REALLY wanted to live stream again. Especially being so far away from home, it’s a great modern day way to hang out with people!
My first comment to you is a Happy Welcome Back! During the dark time (January) I read & re-read all your “past reports” just to get through to the light (February.) Welcome to the West Coast and may your life and family life be filled with joy here!
I have an indelible memory of a curly-haired boy bursting into the kitchen in his disreputable cowboy outfit, grabbing hapless Lassie the Cat, proclaiming “Haffa get the depooty!”, and running back down the basement stairs.
YAY! They are Back! Georgia! So happy you, Ryan, two little people, and the cats are here in California! Was pleasantly surprised to see the new strip – AWESOMENESS! Welcome to California. Blessings to you getting a new home, and all settled in.
When I went outside to bring in the mail, I noticed that my daffodils have broken through the earth. Then I check BCN and discover a new adventure. The bleak mid winter is over. Welcome back.
Thank you for sharing so many photos of the boys in their new environment. My favorites were the top of the refrigerator shots. I can still remember being awakened in the middle of the night by a huge crashing noise. I thought somebody was breaking into the house. Imagine my surprise when I turned on the kitchen lights and discovered my large George Foreman grill, which I had stored on top of the refrigerator, was in shattered pieces on the kitchen floor and my kitty boy Jasper was sitting on top of the fridge looking oh so nonchalant. He’s 18 years old now, and no longer physically capable of making such huge leaps, but in his youth, he managed to get on top of the highest shelves in the house.
Hooray!! So glad to have the BCN boys back!! Suffered so much from withdrawal that I went back to the beginning and read them all again!! Can’t wait for the book release – would be amazing if you could do a UK book tour someday π hint hint
WELCOME BACK! YOU WERE GREATLY MISSED!!! I missed all of the other commenters as well!!! So glad the move went smoothly and you are all together again. The Instagram pics kept me going, thanks for doing that for us! I just love Elvis’ Dad cat, live on the scene, but poor Pucky, he’s a boy! Again, I’m so very glad you’re back. Hope you find permanent housing soon and that that move goes well too.
When our son was a toddler he thought all four-legged animals were dogs. When he saw a horse, he said “Oh, big dog!”. Our black cat, Abraham, looks like a beautiful panther but he is the sweetest thing and likes purses and jewelry.
I’ve missed the boys so!!! I’m glad their back. I hope things will come together soon for you all so “Normal” can be an everyday thing again.
Love from Rhode Island!!
M.
Our patience has paid off!!! My husband and I have missed you and the boys, Georgia. Welcome to California. We are happy to have you here. So happy to have BCN to look forward to again.
Yay for being back! I hope the move and resettling are going as smoothly as possible.
The Toddler namings remind me so much of my toddler niece naming things. Toys and some stuffed animals are named Mommy (Toy), Daddy (Toy), and Baby (Toy) based on sizes. Sometimes it would be so nice if we could see the little human’s though process when they came up with names!
I’m glad you are keeping the gang all together in the neighborhood of he pink house, but I’m sure there will be real life events happening that could only happen in California. Could Burt weave his techno savvy magic and connect them with a news team from the California bureau? Perhaps siblings they reconnect with online through a cat social media site such as Meowspace or Littermates. Yeah, I know he cast has gotten huge, but a cat of adventure on a surfboard has a certain appeal.
Yay for new BCN! I was so excited when I saw the email, I could hardly wait to get home so I could properly enjoy it on the monitor instead of the tiny phone *g*
Poor Puck, he looks so sad in that last panel.
Even if you’re not going to have the move, perhaps you could do a road trip comic to chronicle their adventures on the road?
I got home and found a parcel of BCN Christmas cards in the mail, then a couple of minutes later my iPad announced new mail with your new strip noitifaction. A good day in the hood!
Yesssssssss!!! BCN is back for our reading pleasure. Our long national nightmare is the over. π±
Welcome back, you were sorely missed. I hooked my best friends end on BCN and she reads it to her cat. Salem was getting tired of reruns.πΈ
When I moved house I stacked all the furniture in one room planning on unpacking in stages. When using went to bed my cat started crying which is when I realized he was missing. Light on… stopped crying. Light off…crying. eventually I unpacked a flashlight and lay in wait. He had fallen down between the bookcase and the wall behind ALL of the other boxes. To set him free I had to move everything for the fourth time that day.
We had a cat in our basement who fell down between a stack of about 500 bricks and the wall. Rather than move the whole pile of bricks, I just ripped a hole in the paneling on the other side of the wall so she could escape (the wall is going to be ripped out eventually anyway). She was one of my brother’s cats, and normally she would run and hide in silence whenever I came downstairs (she is the quintessential “scaredy cat” – she still does it even now when I visit my brother’s new house), but she seemed to sense that I was the only one who knew how to find her and set her free, so as soon as I turned on the lights she started crying. And once I set her free, she provided me with a healthy dose of “ankle reinforcement” as thanks.
I love Toddler Speak. When my former Toddler (he just turned 30) was starting to talk, all critters with pointy ears were cats and critters with floppy ears were dogs. I spent long hours pointing out pictures of collies and corgis saying, “Dog.”
It’s so good to have you back Georgia. I can now face February (which is still the dead of winter where I live.)
Defiantly worth the wait. Lots of laughter. Loved the flashback to the Halloween strip. I had read through some of the old strips during the break, but hadn’t gotten to that one, but now I want to go back to it. I remember it being really funny.
YAY !!!…back to the drawing board !!! Had hoped, but never expected you’d find time and energy so soon after the relo, but you’ve hit the strip, inking & painting…and the Reporters of BCN are back ! So glad the move went well and you are all (at least for now) settling in. Hugs for you, the man and the wee two-leggers…and a loving extra scritch to each of you misnamed kitty-boys…I’m a boy, too, Pucky. Looking for a pod-cast announcement – when yinz have the time & resources.
OMG!!! I just woke my husband up laughing so hard..this is the funniest strip you have ever done. Welcome back!!! You are more amazing than ever..Big hugs π
So happy you and the boys are back. You made a blue Monday and happy Monday. The new comic is perfect as usual. An idea for you: A BCN calendar for 2017. I would love it and I’m sure others would too.
Horray!! BCN is back!! *happy jig* π
Hehe! Poor Puck–his masculinity is constantly being called into question. *tsk tsk* Love the flashback to when he was a ladybug for Halloween. π
For a travel/moving storyline, maybe you could be moving to a larger apartment in the Big Pink House. But for some reason, the bigger place isn’t ready yet (big storm delayed the painting crew?) and you can’t stay in the smaller place because the new tenants (who have no other place) need to move in now. So you and the Man, kids, and cats have to move in with The Intruder for a while.
Delighted to have BCN back so soon – I’ve returned to this strip several times already, as I do with most of them, to look for missed details in the drawings (the EARS!) revisit the story and just smile!. Thank you and welcome to So Cal!
Yeah! What a nice surprise! Love the cats reactions to the names! Mine didn’t really care too much as long as you didn’t call them late for Food O’clock! πΈ Hope you find a place to call your own son hon.
This looks familiar. When our Puck had her kittens, Byte (who was fixed as a kitten, btw) became Daddy Cat as far as my three-year-old niece was concerned. (3
Welcome back! π I’m glad your move went smoothly, and hope you’ll be getting out of corporate housing soon. π Glad to hear everyone has settled from the move – that was fast!
The boys could overhear you talking about moving and then could recall any traveling news to be used as flashbacks to when you originally moved from the west into the big pink house? Then of course you stay settled where you are.
Oh, hey…I notice The Toddler is getting tagged as The Toddler now…last time I looked, he was still The Baby and The Baby was The Other Baby…or am I imagining that? <_< (If now, when did the changeover happen?)
Wow!! Great eye! This was the FIRST strip since that change! I was able to change the tag for “the baby” to “the Toddler” and “the new baby” to “the baby.” This will make for some questions in the future from new readers encountering the baby Toddler strips, I’m sure, ha! However, eventually the children in the comic will be called “the Boy” and “the Girl,” and the tags will be much easier. That is coming into the comic soon.
Huge sigh……. Now that you and your family are back in the cartoon business life is sooooooo sweet! I missed you all sooooo much!!!! I never thought I would ever be so addicted to a cartoon. Georgia, you have me wrapped around your little finger!!
(In fact, everything you see Burt do in the comic is really similar to what the Man does during live stream broadcasts he works on!) He also occasionally does pixel art for video games. Where is this information?
You’re back!
You beat me to the first comment, hahaha!!
Welcome back, and welcome to California! Your magic is still just as delightful as it was in the east. Thank you for bringing such joy to so many.
Pucky’s righteous indignation! <3
Welcome back!
Hello Everyone!!!
Oh how I’ve missed you – the best part of Monday!

No idea why Lupin is Puck though (occasionally the other two are also Puck, but he definitely has assigned the name Puck mostly to Lupin).
“Puck” is easier to say.
It sounds to me like “puck” means “cat”. Which of course it does! Pucky is THE cat by which all cats should be measured.
Poor Lupin. He’s just a generic kitty, with nothing to make him special…
(oh, I crack me up. Welcome back, Georgia!)
So very glad you’re back and that you made it through the move safe and sound!
Yay welcome back!
Welcome back! We missed you! I love the names the Toddler has given the boys. Nothing is wrong with being called Puck!
I have missed you and the family sooooo much! I squealed with delight. Welcome back, my dear friends!
At least the cats still love the Toddler, silly names and all.
So happy for new comics again – welcome back! And glad to read that all is good in California. Just curious, what is the “man’s” new work? Will his work ever appear in the strip?

in my head the boys βborrowβ a lot of his video equipment for their broadcasts
That totally makes sense! And welcome back!
The Man also has a strip under the desk that occasionally makes him scream when the cats play with it!
That was a brilliant one
Welcome back, and congratulations on your big move! Heh, poor Puck, having to always explain he’s a boy cat π
Yay! Our boys are back! Glad to hear everything went well and everyone is settling in ok! It’s always so stressful to move and kitties can be difficult! Yay! Welcome back, Georgia!!!!!!!!
Welcome back, all of you–in whatever housing you occupy! You’ve been missed–looking forward to the new adventures…

Another BCNism – “Nope!” That’s my favorite.
lol, oh yes!
Waving madly back!!! Hello Eve and Shell!!!! π π π
beaming back!
Rhode Island will miss you!
Yay! Welcome back. Perfect way to start a Monday morning.
PS – The robber mice stealing the heart – Just no words for how perfectly sweet that is!
Yay!! Thank you, Denise!
Yay! You’re back!
Glad to see you’re back! My BCN withdrawal is now cured. Glad to hear that everyone made the move safely
Welcome back! I really missed the gang. It’s the only news I pay any attention to any more. So glad your move has gone smoothly and all are adapting to the changes.

I am so glad you are back in the comic drawing business. I missed the boys and the toddler and the baby. And you!

Pawsome!!! I just turned on my phone, and up popped, BCN!! Love it all and think it’s fun the names for the cats!! BCN is Back!!!!!!
I cannot tell you how much I appreciated the last panel with Lupin sitting on the Toddler’s rump. This is how my Lily girl likes to sleep on me. π Glad everyone’s settling in, and I’m so excited to see the new comic!

Hooray!! So glad to have the BCN boys back!! Suffered so much from withdrawal that I went back to the beginning and read them all again!! Can’t wait for the book release – would be amazing if you could do a UK book tour someday π hint hint
Glad you’ve settled in and very happy to see the return of BCN.
Borrowed from a not anywhere near as cute cartoon cat
“Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy!”
WELCOME BACK! YOU WERE GREATLY MISSED!!! I missed all of the other commenters as well!!! So glad the move went smoothly and you are all together again. Hope you find permanent housing soon and that that move goes well too.
Thank you, Gloria!! I hope so too! I am so ready to be in our own space again!
Welcome back! Yay!!! This is hilarious. That chart. Those faces. And, I keep repeating to myself, “Listen to your Mom cat.”
Question, is the Toddler a lefty in real life? Just curious if he takes after you and Elvis. π
He *seems* to be! About 85% of the time he uses his left hand! My hopes are high!!
My day just got a little better with the return of BCN. Thanks! I’m glad the move went well.
Good to see you again. :3
When our son was a toddler he thought all four-legged animals were dogs. When he saw a horse, he said “Oh, big dog!”. Our black cat, Abraham, looks like a beautiful panther but he is the sweetest thing and likes purses and jewelry.
Welcome back from all your followers here in Columbus Ohio. We missed you! Glad the move went well.
I’ve missed the boys so!!! I’m glad their back. I hope things will come together soon for you all so “Normal” can be an everyday thing again.
Love from Rhode Island!!
M.
Woohoo! Welcome back!
As awesome as ever! It’s *almost* as if you were never gone! (except for that whole “we missed you a LOT” thing that was going on… π»)
Haha!! Thank you!!! I missed everyone here, too!
Back and live on the scene!
Hurrah !
It may sneak in a bit! π
I may! I have been trying to brainstorm some traveling strips!
Welcome back! Of course Elvis is Dad Cat. He already proclaimed himself Dad Cat in the Halloween special!
It’s kind of perfect, right??
Yippee!
Now would be an appropriate time for a happy dance
You’re back Georgia it was beginning to feel like you were Dunn for good!
Oh no! I’m so glad you found him! That would be Lupin, I think….
Ahhh! Welcome back! Glad to hear you’re all settled and I love the Toddler’s names for the cats. π
So happy you are back. It’s a rainy day and Monday but your strip made it all better.
Thank you, Bob!!!! Hopefully soon! π
I would love it and I’m sure others would too.
so wonderful to see you back! glad the move went well, hope you’re all settling in well.
Horray!! BCN is back!! *happy jig* π
Hehe! Poor Puck–his masculinity is constantly being called into question. *tsk tsk* Love the flashback to when he was a ladybug for Halloween. π
Yay! So very, very happy that you are back!
Ohhhhhh nice twist!
Welcome back! I missed you so much!
Delighted to have BCN back so soon – I’ve returned to this strip several times already, as I do with most of them, to look for missed details in the drawings (the EARS!) revisit the story and just smile!. Thank you and welcome to So Cal!
Welcome back. You, and the boys, have been missed.
Yeah! What a nice surprise! Love the cats reactions to the names! Mine didn’t really care too much as long as you didn’t call them late for Food O’clock! πΈ Hope you find a place to call your own son hon.
So glad you’re back Georgia! And exactly when you said you would be, LOL!
Wait, wasn’t The Toddler calling the reporters “Mow mow” just a few months ago? *sigh*
Welcome back! International joy in Australia!
I love Lupin being all loaf-y on Toddler’s back!!
I’m a boy, I’m a boy, but my folks won’t admit it
I’m a boy, I’m a boy, but if I say I am, I get it
–The Who
My absolute favorite band of all time; no joke! (One of my favorite early songs of theirs, too!)
Welcome back.
With your far moves, “I Can See For Miles” might be another good pick.
Hurray, you are back! I love cats and I love your comic. It is my laughter for the week and I look forward to each episode so much.
Huge sigh……. Now that you and your family are back in the cartoon business life is sooooooo sweet! I missed you all sooooo much!!!! I never thought I would ever be so addicted to a cartoon. Georgia, you have me wrapped around your little finger!!
Poor Puck, that’s the price he pays for being more his feminine side I guess.uch within to
Awwww! So adorable!
(In fact, everything you see Burt do in the comic is really similar to what the Man does during live stream broadcasts he works on!) He also occasionally does pixel art for video games. Where is this information?
All birds are “owls”. K den.
My son screamed with laughter over this strip and read it several times over. We love elvis’s smug attiude.
