This strip is based on when the Toddler WAS sick a few weeks ago. He is thankfully in great health now, and running around, jumping up and down, staying very busy in that sweet way kiddos have of getting into everything. When he was sick a few weeks ago, the poor kid seemed to get everything all at once. We’ve been so lucky, this was only his third time getting sick since he was born, but wow–head cold, ear infection, pink eye, the works. Puck was the only cat who would come near him, (to be fair, Elvis keeps out of arm’s reach on a good day). Pucky sat on his blanket on the couch while the Toddler ate Popsicles and watched ‘Shaun the Sheep.’ It was very sweet.
My daughter will be 19 years old on Thursday! I have no idea who Shaun the Sheep is 🙂 I know Blue’s Clues and the Teletubbies. (Side note: I saw that four people did a cosplay of all the Teletubbies as zombies at San Diego Comic Con this year.)
I love this! Growing up we had a tabby cat named Orange that always came to stay with us when we were sick. She was a spitfire the rest of the time. She lived to be 23.
Poor little guy — it’s so hard when they’re sick and there’s nothing you can do until the medicine kicks in and they feel better. How good of Puck to take care of his Toddler.
I burst out laughing when I saw the first panel – startled the dachsies awake. Each panel, each expression, is a masterpiece – peanut butter and germs, indeed! And Pucky’s “hat hair” – or would that be “hazmat helmut hair”?? I am so glad that Toddler has recovered, thanks to Puck’s bravery in the face of GERMS!
This one goes into the classics category. I was laughing at Lupin’s HazCat suit in the very first panel, and Elvis’ wry, realistic, pull-no-punches reporting kept me going through the whole strip. Peanut butter and germs indeed. Puck is such an angel. A lot of cats don’t like being the Little Spoon, so when you find one that will cuddle that close, he’s a treasure.
Bet Elvis would risk everything and knock Puck out of the way if it were the baby. Puck, so sensitive and sweet “I can save him”. Love how the hazmat helmet is molded for their ears; that’s an eerie look for Lupin.
Aw, pink eye? I feel sorry for the little’un. That’s enough to make an adult miserable, let alone a toddler. Get him some Tobramycin or Garamycin ointment!
Every panel is exquisite! I laughed, I cried, I was totally charmed. My cats are both quite attentive when I am sick too and it really does help. When The Baby becomes a toddler, Elvis will change his tune and she will be made of only sweet things and soft things.
The toddler: one blue & one pink eye… Poor pookie! So glad he’s back to his healthy self (“all peanut butter & germs!!”). Too cute!! (Both the comic strip & your kids!)
I always know how sick I am by how close my three kitties cuddle to me. If my knees get ‘cuddled’ up to my chin by kitties trying to keep my toes toasty, I know I’m in for a rough go!
Aww, poor little guy! This strip, however, is hysterical! From the haz mat suits (even for the coffee mug!) in the first panel right down to grumpy ol’ Elvis in the last one!
What a hoot to see the boys in their positive-pressure suits with the hose(s) attached.
And yet, in panel 5, Puck is still “all cat” with the paws tucked under.
Oh, and the new password to the secret clubhouse is “Boogers everywhere!” Loved it!
1st panel ‘oh no poor toddler’ ( happy dance that toddler is well )
last panel I must admit that sometimes I would rather be the aunt and not the mom. messy diaper-here ya go mom, runny nose-where’s your mom.
animals are so wonderful about staying close when thier loved ones are sick. our pets are right up there with chicken soup an popcycles for comfort an healing.
Dear little Puck is the true hero! It is amazing how there really are “nurse cats” in the feline population. I once had an amazing cat who “midwifed” all of the pregnant mares in my barn and was on hand if any human or animal on the farm had any medical problem. The Toddler is lucky to have such a cat. So glad the little fellow is now healthy. Again, as usual, a great strip!
Every strip becomes a new favorite, but I must have opened this one 10 times today, to laugh again at the news team in their haz mat suits, and to smile over sweet Puck and crotchety Elvis! Thank you for brightening my day!
Love the whole strip but it’s the little details that made me LOL – the hazmat protective gear on Lupin’s mug & on the microphones – the scrolling headlines – how you can still tell Elvis is angry despite his being covered head to toe!! Brilliant strip – and how sweet is Puck!!
I love the quote “even though you may be little, even now you have the power within you…. to be the big spoon”. Will have to use that one on my two great nephews who are 1 and 2, my nieces think I’m nuts anyway. Of course I will credit BCN. Not saying you are nuts, Georgia, gifted would be the word.
I have to read the strips numerous times to catch all the wonderful details. This is my all time favorite! However, now my cats are clamoring for their own hazmat suits and reporter ensembles. Thanks Georgia for the twice weekly catfest.
No, in this strip that’s the pink eye. Both of his are blue. My Mom grew up with a brother and sister who had heterochromia though! …That’s my only heterochromia story. It’s such a lovely trait though, I think!
Aww, Pucky! Elvis and Lupin have such larger than life personalities–it’s really nice to see quiet, sweet Puck get a chance to shine, and this is definitely my favorite Puck strip.
Also, glad to hear the little guy’s feeling better now.
Ah, the joys of toddlerhood. I’m glad my two kiddos are beyond that stage. It’s kind of nice to have THEM take care of ME when I get sick. One day yours will too and then you will have All the Big Spoons and the Little Spoon to snuggle you.
d’awwwww <3 Puck you're so sweet!

Yay for Shaun the Sheep! He cures almost everything.
We adore him, the Toddler is wild for him!
I love Shaun the Sheep. I also like Timmy Time. Great kids programs.
Not watching Shaun of the Dead while eating popsicles and being the biggest spoon.
I am a dissapoint.
Oh well. *sigh* There might be hope for him anyway ….
😉
Soon the Toddler will learn the power of tea and British costume dramas.
Yay Pucky! 😀
I’m glad the toddler is feeling better, but yeesh- what a cocktail! O_o I also assume he didn’t pass it to the baby…?
I love the boys’ little hazmat suits! XD
Thank goodness he did not, we were worried that would happen the whole time. Thankfully, she stayed healthy!
I’m a thousand percent with Elvis.
btw I’m glad the Toddler is feeling better!
I love this! Growing up we had a tabby cat named Orange that always came to stay with us when we were sick. She was a spitfire the rest of the time. She lived to be 23.
Puck is always my favorite! What a sweet little guy!
Love the hazmat suits! The cats look almost like ghosts 😀
we all need a Puck in our lives…
I so agree!
I’m with Elvis on this one. Peanut butter and germs. Brilliant (and glad he’s better again )

yes, purrs cure many things!
That’s an ABSOLUTELY great statement….purrrrr….
Aw, poor Toddler! I’m so happy that he has Pucky to nurture him through his illness – brave, brave Puck!
Puck is the sweetest cat!
He truly is. 🙂
That was a very sweet breaking cat news! You are very talented and, so are your cats.
Thank you!!
Does Puck have “helmet fur” in the split panel #7?? LOL So adorable.
Yes, he does! 😀
He’s starting to look so much older!
My old girl who is 16 will stay beside me 24/7 when I am sick. She’s a black cat, too. They are so sweet.
I melted at ‘he needs me’
Black cats rock. That’s all. Well done, Puck!
Soooo very pink, that one eye.
Yours is the only email I opened this morning, before going out. . . ofcourse 😉
Sylvia
“Toddlers are mostly just peanut butter and germs to begin with.” – Love it!
I love the way the little one calls him “mow, mow”
Thankyou so much. Another winner xxx
Did the Toddler revert to being the Baby because of the Sickness?
Simply irresistible- this entire strip. Love your attention to detail! Sweet Pucky…😊

Lupin? where’s Lupin. I can’t see him ……………….. 🙂
Aw, pink eye? I feel sorry for the little’un. That’s enough to make an adult miserable, let alone a toddler. Get him some Tobramycin or Garamycin ointment!
If ‘Fuzz Aldrin’ can do it……so can we……..MARS here we come……
Haha!!
Every panel is exquisite! I laughed, I cried, I was totally charmed. My cats are both quite attentive when I am sick too and it really does help. When The Baby becomes a toddler, Elvis will change his tune and she will be made of only sweet things and soft things.

Love that the microphones are also covered in hazmat material. Glad the little one is feeling better. Yout rock, Pucky!

The Princess Rain launches into Nurse mode at the sign of a sneeze.

That cat sounds marvelous! I’d love to see their “broadcast.” 🙂
Georgia. This is my first post, and I want to thank you so much for BCN. It is so often the highlight of Monday and Thursday.
For this one I had to go back and look at previous comics to see if the Toddler had heterochromia, …. And then I got it. Pink Eye! Well done!
I’m glad the real life toddler is better. Thank you again.
Thank you so much, Cynthia!!
I must admit, you have talent. I have bookmarked said comic for reading at my workstation when things are slow.
Thank you!
You are most welcome. Thank you.
Love it all — the hazmat suits, the hazmat hat hair, “mow mow”. Every pen stroke a stroke of genius.
Glad Toddler is back to running the house.

Hahaha!! Thank you, Debbe!
This is wonderful. And “The Biggest Spoon” just entered the household vocabulary.
Aw, Elvis still doesn’t like the Toddler? Pout*
Kitties are the best medicine!
I have to read the strips numerous times to catch all the wonderful details. This is my all time favorite! However, now my cats are clamoring for their own hazmat suits and reporter ensembles. Thanks Georgia for the twice weekly catfest.
Does the toddler really have heterochromia? Also, a Cat Network News Connecticut story is in the works for tomorrow.
No, in this strip that’s the pink eye. Both of his are blue. My Mom grew up with a brother and sister who had heterochromia though! …That’s my only heterochromia story. It’s such a lovely trait though, I think!

I love the therapeutic combination of Puck and Toddler’s favorite stuffie.
My daughter is long past her toddler days, but she still has that Webkinz penguin. She named hers Buzz.
