Thank you! Hopefully tomorrow I’ll be released back to normal life. I’m trying to figure out the best way to share a picture with you of Nurse Bobble on shower duty!
“Darling, could you get me [x]? I have a cat on me.”
Ninja is actually quite understanding when she’s curled up on me (and more importantly, on the heated blanket) for the afternoon and I keep getting up. Of course, this is because I grovel to her before and afterwards, what else can you do when there’s that piteous little sound as you gently remove the cat from your lap, but she does wait for me and then climbs back on.
Lupin is my favorite, most of the time, but i love this side of Elvis! The strip The woman is under the weather was my favorite Elvis strip until today! You are so talented, thank you for sharing it with us. I hope you enjoy your maternity break, we will content ourselves with re-reading the past strips for as long as you need. I laugh just as hard as i did the first time every time i read them.
Thank you, Gloria!! I always say that *this* is the side of Elvis I know. He’s a really protective, sweet cat–just very anxious of strangers and wary of everything else in general. He means well though 🙂
Elvis is so protective! He obviously has deep feelings for The Woman but scouting the kitchen? Wow!! And his pajamas are adorable. Great toon, Georgia.
Elvis is more patient than my cats. I get up once and they are miffed and do not return to the lap until a sufficient time has passed to let me know the severity of the error of my ways.
How sweet! Does he really protect you like that? What a good boy! Hope you’re feeling as well as possible in your last weeks — how exciting that you’ll be meeting your baby soon!
He does! Even when I’m not pregnant, Elvis is very much my shadow-kitty. And thank you! I’m feeling good, despite a few typical back aches and such. We can’t wait to meet this baby!!
I like The Woman’s and Elvis’ color-coordinated loungewear! If any of my cats accompany me to the kitchen it is only with the hope of being fed between meal times.
My almost 17-year-old CASSIUS is a very clingy old dude who is always yelling at me to lie down. When I get up I pacify him by telling him he can have the warm spot. This seems to work.
I do the SAME pacifying of my perpetually cold cat! Although she has an electric blanket and a bed with a hot-water bottle, it’s time to crawl on mom if i get on the couch. All my cats pile on if i am sitting still for any amount of time, so i have to make sure i have the remote control for the tv in my hand before i recline, as i’ll be Trapped By Cats….
Ours aren’t supposed to BE on the couch. They know I’m allergic. The game is to sneak in unnoticed while I’m napping and “hide” curled up so close I can’t move. Or, take the warm spot when I get up and put on invisibility cloaks upon my return.
I have a feeling Elvis would do this even when you’re not pregnant. What I don’t like is when Hufflepuff, my Himalayan, gets up from our snuggles for some reason I can’t comprehend. But I don’t follow him. He comes back and insists on climbing up my nose again.
I can’t make a move without my dog. Even if it’s to move from one chair to another in the same room. Lol! Will I enter another dimension and disappear?
Oh my! How did I miss that there was another baby on the way? My only excuse is that I have been concentrating on your wonderful felines and have been oblivious to the slowly expanding belly. (I just went back through the strips and realize that I was REALLY oblivious! LOL!) Congratulations to you all. And new baby means more material for the strip! Hahahaa!
Nice to see Elvis is your purr-tector! I hope you and Ryan are all prepared for the new girl due very very soon. Do you have a name picked out for her? Maybe after a Luke, you need a Leia!
So funny! I had a cat that used to sleep on my belly when I was pregnant with my daughter! Talk about making it difficult to move! I miss that sweet little guy. I just love Elvis’s jammies! LOL
Ah Georgia sweet girl, here’s to an easy delivery; a healthy baby girl and time to think up more wonderful episodes for the “cat boys”. You have burst onto the comic scene in a delightful way. We will all miss you, and await your return! I think of you frequently, particularly now as “kitten season” has hit in Northern California. Here at our small shelter we have three nursing litters and a first time mom cat who looks rather like your “selfie” in today’s strip. I don’t think she will go another two weeks. Enjoy your break.
Just noticed Woman is ‘in the family way’ again! Your’re a regular little kitten factory. I Had to scroll back through the archives to see what I missed. You’ve hideden it well, Congratulations, I look forward to the breaking news.
Georgia, we love Breaking Cat News in our house and we’ve been telling all our friends about it. This episode prompted my husband to text me about Elvis’ pjs! I’m not sure just how we’re going to get through your maternity leave; we’ll have to go back through the old ones, as suggested upthread!
I’m loving the speeded-up pregnancy. Just like on tv! And just like with baby #1, too. Georgia, here’s another fan who enjoys the stories *and* the artwork.
When I was growing up, “I have a cat on my lap” was adequate grounds to get out of anything, including answering the front door that you were much closer to than anyone else.
As adults, we talked about being “pinned”. And I’ve got friends who talk about “couch-nails”. And yes to the “I’LL BE RIGHT BACK STOP GETTING UP STOOPID CAT”, although my main offender is better about waiting for me to get back, now that he’s older and kinda creaky. (And I really do always come back.)
Having been on holiday last week, I could only see BCN via my tablet, and you might laugh to hear that I read the next to last panel, over and over, as “I forgot the SPAM” rather than “spoon,” which confused the heck out of me but was also hilarious – I had a Monty Python moment over it! Maybe I need a bigger screen tablet? {g}
Sometimes you just don’t bother. .after Thanksgiving dinner, I had three of our 4 on my lap… my hubby was nice enough to get my piece of pumpkin pie for me. 40 pounds of cat is hard to move. 🙂
RE: Your pregnancy. Do you think you could get Ryan or someone to tweet/post when you’re actually having the baby and recovering? I’d hate to worry while you’re on your hiatus.
Sitting with my furry brother right now. He has a bowl full of his favourite, but would rather cuddle. When I need to get up, he will permit it if I give sufficient notice, but probably won’t go eat unless I accompany him. He won’t go near ANYONE else, but prefers cuddles to dinner…
Georgina, I have a bit of a question – as you’re the only other person I *know* that does water colours, I’m looking for a gift for a family member. Is there any bit of equipment you have for your work that is really fantastic, that I wouldn’t think of? Any ideas would really be appreciated, thank you!!
If they already have paints, brushes, paper, and other basics, I would suggest “masking fluid!” It’s a really fun tool for watercolorists. It’s a sort of liquid rubber a painter can lay down on the paper (with an extra brush best kept separate from other brushes, as it can get a little gummy after a while. I have one or two cheaper brushes that I keep just for masking fluid). The painter places it wherever they would like the page to stay white. I like to use it for Moons, stars, birch trees and branches, etc. They let it dry, paint right over it, and then once the page is completely dry they can gently rub it to take it off. It can be used to mask places to paint later too, such as saving space for leaves or flowers and adding them in after. It’s really, really fun to play with and it can be an awesome tool! My own favorite is the Winsor and Newton Masking Fluid: http://www.amazon.com/Winsor-Newton-75-Milliliter-Watercolor-Masking/dp/B000GPWPQQ/ref=pd_sxp_f_pt It dries a little yellow so it is easier to see on the page.
That is incredibly helpful, thank you so much! I’ve already called around to some local art shops and located a store I can buy it from. Really, thanks for answering and I wish you the best of luck and joy with newest addition!
This is my life, every night. 🙂
Mine too. I never realised it was because he had to scout it out though
Perhaps some Secret Service garb for Elvis. Nice dark suit, shades, earpiece.
My Fergus is the same way all night long… hates me getting up 🙂
I love Elvis in his PJs while the other two still have their work clothes on!
LOVE his lil robe!
This reminds me of my Bobble and how she’s been while I’ve been home recovering from a broken ankle.
Aw!! I hope you are feeling better. Cats can get a bad wrap, but I think so many of them are great “caretakers.” They sense these things!
Thank you! Hopefully tomorrow I’ll be released back to normal life. I’m trying to figure out the best way to share a picture with you of Nurse Bobble on shower duty!
Haha mine are like that too but i think that they think im gonna feed them every time i get up!
Once again, you have proved to me that your Elvis and my Clark are brothers from another mother.
Can’t The Man get your yogurt and spoon for you? You know, solely to preserve Elvis’ sanity.
Never fear–that’s usually what actually happens, especially these days!
“Darling, could you get me [x]? I have a cat on me.”

omg the sound. the “erggmmmf” sound!!! too cute

I think it’s rather creative how you’ve snuck in the baby bump in these last few strips that involve the woman.
Thank you, Mary!
I love Elvis’s little robe!
Elvis is more patient than my cats. I get up once and they are miffed and do not return to the lap until a sufficient time has passed to let me know the severity of the error of my ways.

Protective kitty is protective.

Lol! Good thing Elvis is protecting the Woman!

How did Elvis get the night off?–Oh, I guess, he didn’t. I love Thursdays/Mondays. Happy Days.
So. True.
Ours aren’t supposed to BE on the couch. They know I’m allergic. The game is to sneak in unnoticed while I’m napping and “hide” curled up so close I can’t move. Or, take the warm spot when I get up and put on invisibility cloaks upon my return.
My cats (especially the older one) assumes that if I walk into the kitchen it must be because I am going to feed them.
LOVING Elvis’ PJs.. perfect
Elvis jammies! Wow! Love them! My kids do the same thing…never realized that it was to ‘protect’ me! lol
…..kitty in the trenches!
I have a feeling Elvis would do this even when you’re not pregnant. What I don’t like is when Hufflepuff, my Himalayan, gets up from our snuggles for some reason I can’t comprehend. But I don’t follow him. He comes back and insists on climbing up my nose again.
lol too funny! my cosmo does the same thing… “hello, THIS IS CAT, WHERE ARE YOU GOING?” (i live in a studio apt.. i’m not going very far away!)
I can’t make a move without my dog. Even if it’s to move from one chair to another in the same room. Lol! Will I enter another dimension and disappear?
Elvis playing your bodyguard is hilarious Georgia!
Hahahaa!
Thank you!! She–the baby is a girl–is due in less than two weeks! This pregnancy flew by (though was MUCH shorter in the comic, ha!)
Here’s to a healthy & fast delivery with a healthy offspring waiting to be cuddled by her Mommy.
Thank you!!
Mi scusi, are you pregnant again?
Yes, indeed! We’re due in less than two weeks!
Nice to see Elvis is your purr-tector! I hope you and Ryan are all prepared for the new girl due very very soon. Do you have a name picked out for her? Maybe after a Luke, you need a Leia!
We are 99.99% certain of a name, but still keeping it a bit of a secret as not all of our family has heard it yet! 🙂
So funny! I had a cat that used to sleep on my belly when I was pregnant with my daughter! Talk about making it difficult to move! I miss that sweet little guy. I just love Elvis’s jammies! LOL
I knew you were pregnant. I just didn’t realize you were pregnant in the comic. I suspected tho 😉
My cats do this too, except they don’t come back 🙁
Love this! My cat follows me every where I go,

In our house this state is refereed to as “becatted”, as in “Honey! Can you get the phone? I’m becatted.”
We call it being fluffy-mugged

Elvis, proving once again, he’s such a GOOD BOY 🙂
Yes he is!! I never fear “kitchen attacks” ha!
We are going to try our best to make an announcement when she joins us! (Which I hope will be very soon, she is getting quite heavy, ha!)

@ Alison: “SPAM”. How cute. And it totally makes perfect sense given that The Woman is pregnant. Ice Cream and Spam – interesting combination, what?

You’re welcome! Thanks for asking–I kind of love talking watercolor-stuff, ha!! I hope your gift is happily received! And thank you, we’re so excited!
I love cats
