P.S. Dear Georgia, any chance of getting more magnets in the Zazzle store? I just bought four mugs–now everyone in my family will have one!–but our mug cupboard is pretty full and I would love to cover our fridge in BCN magnets instead.
Elvis is the elder cat of the bunch. He’s also Siamese, and they tend to have wobbly eyes. (I’m half-joking. The Siamese cat I grew up with had eyes that tended to wobble and it’s a common condition in Siamese cats called nystagmus, which I just learned this very minute, praise be to the internet. I doubt this condition in cats would be improved with the wearing of tiny reading glasses.) π
I love the little rose spray tea cup. Also, I have to say, I like getting a new episode of BCN as a treat when I get home from work! It’s like the internet giving me a something nice for getting through the day.
Best quote ever. I love that books hold body heat and smell like the past. And Buzzy Mouse! We knew Elvis would so be protecting her like he protects the baby.
Elvis didn’t seem terribly interested in The Toddler when he was a baby, but he loves The (current) Baby and now this kitten. Apparently he has a soft spot for little girls that he thinks need protecting. Big bad Elvis is such a softy. =)
Aw, Elvis in full Guard Mode. So sweet. And Puck letting Buzzy Mouse keep Kitten company, too. Even knowing this will probably end just fine for her, it makes me so nervous waiting to see HOW it turns out just fine!
(side note: I have to get used to the PST updates, so used to having the update by noon EST on most days. Good patience practice for me, I guess! ;))
Edit-type post to add: Nice to see Puck commenting about the world being so big for a little kitten. He’d know. Kitten looks like she’s relaxing in the warmth and security, she looks more relaxed in the last panel with her guardian and mousie in place.
Elvis’s glasses are as adorable as they’ve always been, but I suddenly find myself wondering how they stay on. Pince-nez type, maybe?
Elvis went and made my eyes all misty. Worried Puck had them headed there already. Elvis on kitten over watch would make a great tshirt or mug or something.
I adore Elvis. He doesn’t like to talk the talk, but he walks the walk. I thought, after steadfastly guarding The Baby, that he would probably step up, but he’d never SAY so. All three of the big cats are adorable. They have such big hearts. I can’t wait to see how this story unfolds. Thank you so much, Georgia.
Hi Georgia
Good thing I’m addicted to BCN so I check the site often. I did not get an email notification today. Don’t know if others have the same problem or am I just special ππ»
Oh no!! This seems to be a common issue tonight! I will try to send another out. May I confess that I think I was so excited to get this one up today that I prepared the notification email… And may never have actually hit send?? Cringe! I will go tinker in a bit and see if that was it. My apologies Lorraine, and to everyone else too!
Yes, just got it. I follow on FB so it’s not an issue. BTW I did NOT see the last panel coming. It’s heartbreakingly beautiful! As gorgeous as the reading picture! The old softie! And Buzzy Mouse! Puck is so sweet!
With 2 kids, husband, 3 cats and the move you are doing great. I am always impressed with your work. No worries, I’m just very happy to read your work.
Why can I not just read BCN once like I do with other comics? Each new strip gets read, reread, and then reread again! I will admit to having a special place in my heart for Puck, as I have my own little house panther, Malkin, that I love dearly, but Elvis and Lupin are just as dear. And yes, the last panel here does tug at the heartstrings!
Because the art is deceptively simple. It is so detailed and all the details add up to mood and emotion, which accounts for the collective gasp and sigh at the last panel. Someone posted about the glass doorknobs. I didn’t notice that!
Aw, Elvis the Protector, I knew he’d come through! I’d like to think he’s reading an old-school “cozy” in his chair – perhaps an Agatha Christie (Miss Marple though, not Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple is far more cozy), or perhaps a “Tips for Good Parenting” book that he’s found useful looking after the Baby and now the Kitten too {g}…..
And I’m still seeing Puck standing Bravely in front of the door, just in case Elvis isn’t enough!
CN NEWS, I CAN’T FEEL MY WHISKERS!!
One of many Moments that should be nominated for an Oscar…
Puck: “The kitten is so small, and the world is so big”
Puck, puck, as one of the worlds hidden philosophers,I can honestly say that single phrase has so much depth and meaning on so many levels of thought..
Lupin: love the blanket..
Now for the Cat of the hour: Elvis….. *ahem*
Tonight, while at work, I did NOT receive an email from his Excellency on the latest BCN news. After watching this report, I can understand why. And after reading the lovely comments from the awesome BCN fans, I notice something left out, empty, so I want to be the first to say this…
To Elvis and Georgia, in regards to the last panel,
On behalf of the fathers out there,
On behalf of the women who are married, have relatives, or know a guy,
On behalf of the single dads, or hope to be dads one day, π
On behalf of those of us, who remember our dads sitting by us, as we slept as a baby… *sniff sniff*
No, thank you Georgia, for doing what you love to do, and sharing it with all of us..
P.S. Dear Elvis,
Don’t let Tabitha see you with glasses on, and call you
“Grandpa Elvis”. We can imagine you screaming back “I’M NOT OLD! Im
Just awesome!” while trying not to wake the young kitten. You cannot imagine the poofiness x50 scale…
reading this just before going to bed myself. this story line tonite was like a bedtime story.
the last panel esp. lovely. Elvis makes a great grandfather.
So happy at the end of the day at the shelter to find crusty old Elvis siting up with the foundling. I’m sure bets are being laid on her name. I would go with “Happy Tracks” because of the extra toes. Many years ago at a shelter in the upper mid-west I was involved in its beginning there was a multi toed tabby kitten who just wasn’t going anywhere. I suggested naming him Happy Tracks (I think it was a tire commercial) and we had people fighting over him! That was a long time ago … but at least every other year at our little shelter in northern California I name a polidactal kitten “Happy Tracks” just because. I say little shelter … we generally take in fewer than 300 cats (mostly kittens) this past year we hit way more than 400… Spay Neuter folks, that is what this country needs more than anything else. Dogs as well as cats. Right now we are being inundated with litters of puppies! Don’t these people know what causes it? Nation wide hundreds of kittens and puppies are euthanized in shelters every day because people don’t spay and neuter their pets. We are fortunate in that we are a “no-kill” shelter. That means we do no euthanize healthy, adoptable cats and dogs. But it also means that we can only take in so many before we are full. Fortunately adoptions have been concitant….but that only goes so far. Every one … make an effort to help your local shelters wherever you are, volunteer, give money and promote spay neuter. Sorry for the Soapbox, but it is really so important. Out here in California our local spay neuter van is going to outside areas and finding way too many already pregnant cats .
I’m from the other hemisphere. So when it’s evening for you then it’s morning for me. And you’ve just made my day, dear Georgia! Usually I’m a bit grumpy in the morning (don’t like getting up early) but how can I be grumpy after seeing Elvis sitting up with the kitten! So adorable ^^ Thank you so much!
I was thinking the same thing. With his reading glasses and the newspaper he makes me think of the fathers in one of those old TV shows like Leave It To Beaver.
I know how it will end -with me crying.
just to let you know, Georgia, there may be an issue with the e-mail list. I did not receive the notofication from His Excellency today.
Tommy – happy as ever! And, oh, little Pucky. But the last panel, oh my! All the boys so worried about the little girl kitten and Elvis on duty in his glasses. Funny and so so sweet at the same time. In my opinion this one strip epitomizes your work – this is not just a comic that makes you laugh, it is a comic with heart. And what a good heart it is.
I see where Tommy gets his big, friendly smile now – it’s the same smile his woman has! And I love Elvis – even tho he wasn’t named after the Elvis of my generation. All the boys are wonderful and Georgia – you are a genius!
Puck saying “the kitten is so small” and in the next panel ” AND THE WORLD IS SO BIG” just brings a tear to my eyes that seldom have a tear in them. Puck’s little face with the two fangs showing is just so poignant and adorable.
Georgia – every new strip you post is my favourite! But this one takes the prize! There’s so much to love about every single panel it would take too long to type it all and I would just be echoing all the comments above. I am so pleased that you have the talent and creativity to create these beautiful, inspiring pieces of art that make us laugh and cry and obsessively refresh our email inboxes every Monday and Thursday! Keep up the excellent work and thanks for all the feels =^..^=
Awwwwwwww!!!! *filled with warm fuzzy feelings* π Elvis with the kitten in the last panel! It’s so precious! I love how the boys are all acting like the kitten’s uncles and looking after her so caringly. This one just melted my heart! I don’t blame Sophie for curling up on a pile of books–they sure DO hold body warmth and smell like the past! π
This is the first time I’ve actually noticed the white patch on Puck’s neck. Maybe that’s because I have now seen the white patch on the REAL Puck’s neck so I was looking for it in the comic. And it’s probably usually covered up by his shirt and tie anyway.
As always, Georgia, your stories and art are simply amazing and go beyond any other comic I’ve ever read including Calvin and Hobbes. I think it won’t be much longer before you are crowned as The Best Ever. Truly. I go to BCN many times a day just to feel the warmth of the cast and to find something truly funny and it makes my day. Thank you so much. Are you aware that this and Thursday’s strips are not yet on your site? I just checked again. Thought you would want to know.
Silly me! I kept checking my email last night instead of just checking the site! The good news is that the email was waiting for me at 5:45 this morning when I sat down with my coffee. What a delightful way to start the day! Love everything about this strip. I have to go back and re-read it now. Thanks, Georgia!
Love this strip! There is so much love and compassion shining through every story! Love the line about books, “They hold body warmth and smell like the past.”
You know, I thought it was the Burglar Mice with the kitten, until someone clued me in to Buzzy Mouse. That means the other things I was seeing were toesies!
Why does everyone in the world have a nurturing tom except for me?
Our Buddy took one look at homeless kitten (now, Amelia Pond) and wanted her dead. Proceeded to begrudge her every second of attention she ever received.
I would like to see a book with a collection of the comic. Like all the comics in one book and background of all the characters, a little bit about yourself and how you came up with the idea of the comic.
Elvis as Atticus in “To Kill a Mockingbird”. “He would be there all night and he would be there in the morning when Jem waked up.” Elvis as the ever there protector.
Adorable!
It seems like Elvis’ expression in the last panel is saying, “Not one word!”
Love it, as always. Brings a warm and fuzzy feeling to the heart.
Hello,Georgia! How great is this storyline! I love the way you put in little details,”easter eggs” for us to find and enjoy. I always get something new out of every strip each time I revisit them. Thank you, “community”, for your comments and insights. This just makes BCN all the more enjoyable.
And in possibly related news, it’s Mother’s Day in Britain on Sunday 6 March. Why the UK celebrates motherhood before the US I’ll let others figure out, but I thought it was appropriate to this strip’s theme of nurturing. Anyway, we can rest assured that the newcomer is in safe paws. Sleep tight, little kitten.
In the past women would often leave home to work as domestic servants – on the 4th Sunday of Lent they would return to their “Mother Church” to worship and, of course, see their family (Mums especially!). Here in the UK we formally call this “Mothering Sunday” rather than Mother’s day (though most people do call it that!). As its linked to Easter it shifts about the calendar a bit unlike the American version.
*GASP!* I remember the first time i took my shelter foster kittens out into the yard, and the tiniest girl chose to survey everything from under the branches of my hydrangea. Watching her, i started to weep – big gulping sobs – and my friend asked why i was crying. i blubbered: “she’s sooo little and the world is sooo big!!!”
First time commenting, here. I absolutely adore your work! Today’s edition made my otherwise horrible day a bit brighter. I’ve been an entire year without an animal in the house for the first time in my life, and BCN has made it somewhat bearable. Thank you for your hard work!
EVERYONE KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN!
Yep. Elvis tries to fool everyone, but he’s only fooling himself.
Buzzy mouse π
AWWWWWW!!!! Elvis has a new baby/kitten! It’s PURRRRRRRRFECT!
AWWWWWW!
So many feelings! I love that Puck put Buzzy Mouse to keep the little one company. And, Elvis and his reading glasses are just too stinking adorable.
Of course the boys are worried about the little one. They are ALL Good Boys.
TOO MANY FEELS
THE ENGINE CANNA TAKE ANY MORE FEELS
Hahaha!!
P.S. Dear Georgia, any chance of getting more magnets in the Zazzle store? I just bought four mugs–now everyone in my family will have one!–but our mug cupboard is pretty full and I would love to cover our fridge in BCN magnets instead.
I do keep meaning to create more! This will give me some reason to brainstorm a few!
You must include “Stop being happy, everything is terrible!” Elvis on one!
You know you have a BCN addiction when you check almost hourly on Monday to see what’s happening π
I’m sure Elvis will say he’s protecting everyone else from the kitten, not the other way around.
Amen, fellow addict,amen
Re: checking hourly: I find this true in my own life. ;D
And Thursdays too
Aww! Love Elvis & Buzzy Mouse keeping her company.
Elvis needs reading glasses? I admit to being curious as to whether BCN has a column in that paper.
I have 2 nieces and a nephew that have nystagmus. They’ve all had surgery to help correct it and they all wear glasses so Elvis’ glasses are legit!
Apparently, he is wearing them in the print I have too were he is reading.
So cute. Love the glasses on Elvis. And buzzy mouse is a nice touch. All we need now is a name.
Poly. For her toes. I know, not too clever.
I can’t handle Elvis with his spectacles, it is too cute. So kind of him protecting her.
β¦and good night to the not-so-old Siamese whispering “hush.”
So cute! I thought that was a robber mouse, though. Glad someone clarified for me.
I love the little rose spray tea cup. Also, I have to say, I like getting a new episode of BCN as a treat when I get home from work! It’s like the internet giving me a something nice for getting through the day.
Yay!! Thank you, Minda!
“They hold body warmth and smell like the past!” – BCN is eminently quotable as always.
Best quote ever. I love that books hold body heat and smell like the past. And Buzzy Mouse! We knew Elvis would so be protecting her like he protects the baby.
Damn! Comics are not supposed to make one cry!
BCN should always be read with tissues nearby. Georgia has a gift for hitting one right in the feels.
Aw, Elvis! What a good boy.
Elvis didn’t seem terribly interested in The Toddler when he was a baby, but he loves The (current) Baby and now this kitten. Apparently he has a soft spot for little girls that he thinks need protecting. Big bad Elvis is such a softy. =)
LOVE!
Aw, Elvis in full Guard Mode. So sweet. And Puck letting Buzzy Mouse keep Kitten company, too. Even knowing this will probably end just fine for her, it makes me so nervous waiting to see HOW it turns out just fine!

I need that last panel on a shirt, please?
Love the radiator and glass doorknobs!
Tommy’s book comment belongs on a book mark!
I second this notion! π
+1
Just too too adorable. What a great bunch of good kitties!
Elvis wearing glasses and reading the paper makes me insanely happy. Also “CN news, I can’t feel my whiskers.” Happy Sighs…
Elvis, you old softie, you !! πΊ
Elvis went and made my eyes all misty. Worried Puck had them headed there already. Elvis on kitten over watch would make a great tshirt or mug or something.
Wow! The end panel knocked my socks off!! Buzzy mouse is helping, and Elvis, how totally kewl of him!!! Pawsome!!!!!
Am actually tearing up about cartoon cats! Because last panel.

Yes, just got it. I follow on FB so it’s not an issue. BTW I did NOT see the last panel coming. It’s heartbreakingly beautiful! As gorgeous as the reading picture! The old softie! And Buzzy Mouse! Puck is so sweet!

Elvis would be there when the kitten waked up in the morning.
You never cease to amaze ALL of us…Breaking Cat News is just priceless…
Finally figured out in panel four, she is talking about Tommy’s Woman, and not Sofia
Aw, Elvis the Protector, I knew he’d come through! Added to previous – yes, Elvis is reading the newspaper in the panel, but I just “saw” that as a mystery novel, go figure {g}….
reading this just before going to bed myself. this story line tonite was like a bedtime story.
the last panel esp. lovely. Elvis makes a great grandfather.
Aw! This is amazing and incredibly adorable. Georgia, your work makes Mondays happy. I hope we learn the name of this kitten (and other mysteries)…
Oh Elvis my heart just melted
Daw, Elvis.
So happy at the end of the day at the shelter to find crusty old Elvis siting up with the foundling. I’m sure bets are being laid on her name. Awwww, the little mouse in the kitten’s bed! That Elvis is such a softie!!!
Sophie likes piles of books? She’d be right at home in my apartment!
Buzzy mouse is snuggling with the kitten and so is Elvis!=^~^=
=^~^= =^~^=
Maybe the Man and Woman should adopt this little girl. Elvis would really miss her if she has to go. What do you think, Georgia?
Dad Cat, on the scene.
I was thinking the same thing. With his reading glasses and the newspaper he makes me think of the fathers in one of those old TV shows like Leave It To Beaver.
“Catticis”, who would still be there when Kitten waked up in the morning. Perfect.
You Georgia Dunn are a treasure.
Amen.
Amen
I know how it will end -with me crying.
just to let you know, Georgia, there may be an issue with the e-mail list. I did not receive the notofication from His Excellency today.
Tommy – happy as ever! And, oh, little Pucky. But the last panel, oh my! All the boys so worried about the little girl kitten and Elvis on duty in his glasses. Funny and so so sweet at the same time. In my opinion this one strip epitomizes your work – this is not just a comic that makes you laugh, it is a comic with heart. And what a good heart it is.
Just perfect.
Hah! That didn’t take long! π
Now Elvis has TWO little girls to protect. <3
Elvis rocks!!!
Oh, Elvis…. <3 !! You sweet faker! And Pucky– is that Buzzy Mouse? The ultimate act of love.
Sigh…
Okay. That made me tear up a little.
Elviiiiiiiiiiiis this is wonderful
ELVIS! Spirit of Iron, Heart of Gold, and Tail of Fluff. Who could ask for anything more?
I see where Tommy gets his big, friendly smile now – it’s the same smile his woman has! And I love Elvis – even tho he wasn’t named after the Elvis of my generation. All the boys are wonderful and Georgia – you are a genius!
Or his woman has that great smile from being with big, friendly Tommy!
When that little girl goes to another home, hearts will break. <3
Unlike the Grinch Elvis’ heart has ALWAYS been three sizes bigger. How sweet!
Elvis, that old softie, and Buzzy Mouse, making little kitten feel at home. All the boys gathered round to watch over her.
Puck saying “the kitten is so small” and in the next panel ” AND THE WORLD IS SO BIG” just brings a tear to my eyes that seldom have a tear in them. Puck’s little face with the two fangs showing is just so poignant and adorable.
Thank you, Susie! <3
I love all the boys already in their pjs for the night. And Grandpa Elvis on duty to watch over the little one. Just adorable!
Pucky with his little teeth showing – adorable.
Awwwwwwww!!!! *filled with warm fuzzy feelings* π Elvis with the kitten in the last panel! It’s so precious! I love how the boys are all acting like the kitten’s uncles and looking after her so caringly. This one just melted my heart! I knew Elvis would come around. He’s the best. Is that Puck’s buzzy mouse in her bed too?
It is! π
Darling Elvis, just gets on and does it.
And the kitten has the most adorable little face, her colouring is beautiful
As always, Georgia, your stories and art are simply amazing and go beyond any other comic I’ve ever read including Calvin and Hobbes. I think it won’t be much longer before you are crowned as The Best Ever. Truly. I go to BCN many times a day just to feel the warmth of the cast and to find something truly funny and it makes my day. Thank you so much. Are you aware that this and Thursday’s strips are not yet on your site? I just checked again. Thought you would want to know.

What a delightful way to start the day! Love everything about this strip. I have to go back and re-read it now. Thanks, Georgia!
Awww, how cute. The boys are so adorable.
Love Elvis’s China cup and his little bowl of snacks. The last panel is so sweet, just shows there’s good and puffy in all of us – ahh!
And the new kitty’s enormous little paddy paws
How precious and the Woman looks so pretty in the fourth panel with the cold wind.
Seeing Puck’s little mouse in the bed with the kitten is just TOO much!!!! π
Elvis is my hero.
Elvis: crusty on the outside, soft as warm butter on the inside.
That explains his penchant for eating the butter!
Sometimes it takes up to a year for acceptance. That was the case for Molly, our female orange tabby.
Amelia Pond? You wouldn’t happen to be a Doctor Who fan, would you?
A bunch of us on here. Which is why I keep wanting to see Elvis in a bow tie and a fez. ;D
I would like to see a book with a collection of the comic. Like all the comics in one book and background of all the characters, a little bit about yourself and how you came up with the idea of the comic.
A book of the first strips is coming out this May, I’m delighted to say!!
Considering I own a complete Waterson, I know where some of my shekles are going in May.
“a complete Waterson”? Would that be as in Bill Watterson?
Ayep. Who else would it be? In the comics world, that’s like having a complete Shakespeare. 8^D
Just had to ask, since you spelled his name with only one ‘T’. That’s sort of like spelling ‘Shakespeare’ without an ‘E’! π
Nevah did larn tu spel.
Actually, that may be due to a finger injury. Double f, t, g, and r are sometimes problematic when I’m in a hury β¦ ;oP
Don’t sweat it. I’ve met plenty of Calvin & Hobbes fans who never even noticed his name has two ‘T’s in it. π
Can’t wait for the book!
My son scolded me for reading the last one without him and tonight’s was worth the wait to hear his squeal when he saw the last panel.
Awwww!! That makes me so happy!
Responding to awgiedawgie; when I first noticed the patch on Puck’s chest a while back, I thought, how cute, Puck has hair on his chest.
Just noticed Elvis isn’t really reading. You can see him keeping an eye on the kitten and not on his newspaper.
I was fooled… So Elvis DOES care for the kitten!
Elvis as Atticus in “To Kill a Mockingbird”. “He would be there all night and he would be there in the morning when Jem waked up.” Elvis as the ever there protector.
I love that. π
Adorable!
It seems like Elvis’ expression in the last panel is saying, “Not one word!”
Love it, as always. Brings a warm and fuzzy feeling to the heart.
The feels.. oh the feels..
Thankyou for this! I thought I had missed something when I didnt get it yesterday! But all was explained and so very better late than not at all!!!
AWWWWW!!!
Too cute for words!
I love this strip.
π
I wonder if the kitten will call him Mister Elvis?
YAY!
You got me right in the feels with that last panel.
Yes, ok, so I have just read this strip for the fifth time today…
List of characters: and Buzzy Mouse!
Ooh, good call! You’re right, I’ll have to add him!
Hello,Georgia! How great is this storyline! I love the way you put in little details,”easter eggs” for us to find and enjoy. I always get something new out of every strip each time I revisit them. Thank you, “community”, for your comments and insights. This just makes BCN all the more enjoyable.
I can’t feel my whiskers………..camera one?
Elvis’s reaction to both the Kitten and the Baby is reminding me of Carson on Downton Abbey. π
Because the UK is the ‘Mother Country’ to the US? π
Elvis is scared to be thought soft, but is sometimes a softie nonetheless. He does a good grandpa or watchful father.
BCN gets an intern.
Looks like in the last panel Elvis turned the kitty bed around to take better advantage of the radiator. It was turned the other way in panel six.
Saw that coming! Dad-cat to the rescue.
The last panel belongs on a christmas card.
Cat News News? ha.
I’m glad the comic could help, Colleen! Thank you for saying so!
Breaking Cat Mews for the kitten.
Oh, Elvis, you big softy!
Elvis and his bug squishy heart!
Are the kitten’s eyes open in the last panel?
It seems to be asleep when Puck is reporting.
I’ve binged on all of this strip and am sad to be caught up. Best comic strip ever. Thank you for bringing joy to us all.
Thank you!! <3
OH MY GOSH!!! I didnt think that elvis woul be the one
Staying up with the kitten
Elvis just loves any kind of baby, doesn’t he?
