This scene unfolded a couple of weeks ago, and I managed to get a couple of photos of it for the BCN Instagram! (@breakingcatnews) Puck is still in love with this tiny cardboard couch, he lounges on it daily. In real life, it is brown. I don’t know if it really was meant to be a couch, but that’s how he uses it. Elvis scratches and naps on it sometimes and Lupin has no idea it exists.
NOPE – I burst out laughing and startled my dachshunds! Oh, Puck, you are always prepared. Love the scrunched note, twitchy tail, and disgruntled expression on His Excellency’s face. LOL!!
Wonderful as always, Georgia! We have, oh, I think about 6 or 7 cardboard boxes of various sizes scattered on the floors, and there’s almost always at least one cat in at least one box! Wish I knew why they love ’em so much; they’re certainly way less expensive than buying fancy cat toys and the cats love them so much more too {g}….
This reminds me of an incident several years ago. My friend would occasionally buy a cardboard scratching pad from Walmart for her cat Smokey. It came with a small packet of catnip that you could sprinkle on it if you so desired. I decided to get one to see if our cats liked it, sprinkling just a little catnip on it. I had never used catnip with our cats so I wasn’t sure how they would react to it. I didn’t want them to get too wild from the “drug.” Amy was not at all interested. Daisy loved it, scratched on it and sat on it as if it was her throne. Awhile later I walked by and Jack was sitting on it with a dopey look, as if he didn’t really know why he was sitting on it, but it was something new so he was sitting on it. (Perhaps the catnip gave him that dopey look.) Now consider that Jack weighed about 14 pounds and Daisy weighed 8 pounds. While I was watching, Daisy walked up to Jack, stood up on her back legs, wrapped her arms around Jack and body slammed him to the floor! Poor Jack. He didn’t know what hit him!
GEORGIA! I miss you replying to me. What can I say to get you to notice me again? 😉
I’m being silly because I’m going through a rough time personally. I’m unemployed. Knowing you have my back would make me feel better. Or at least knowing the boys have my back. 🙂
Oh no, Jenna!! I’m sorry! Sometimes I feel like I reply too much, and maybe it sort of spoils the experience, if I’m always chiming in like, “YOU LIKED THAT? HECK YES!” Haha! I’m sorry you’re unemployed 🙁 In 2012-2013 we went through a little over the year of the Man being unemployed and it was really hard. He applied to everything he could, he went on a ton of interviews, and it was just bad luck after bad luck. He has a job he really likes right now, but it took a lot of time, fear, and patience. The boys DEFINITELY have your back, me too. And the Man. This economy is brutal… I could rant, but I shouldn’t here. I hope that things turn around for you fast, and even if they don’t, I bet you’re doing everything right and things WILL open up for you! Much love to you, Jenna. You’ve been commenting here since almost the very beginning!
Thank you! Every bit of support helps. And seeing the boys and their antics is always a bright spot. But I think it is your success and the happiness of your family that keeps all of us coming back. We all have your backs. See you Monday! 🙂
Jenna, I too come here for the smiles and laughs…it brightens my day. I wish you well and good luck in job hunting. Perseverance, my BCN friend. I wonder if a bigger cardboard box would have the same effect on us cat people????
Good luck, Jenna! I hope things turn around for you very soon. I post on another forum where people do “cat hair dances” to bring luck. Rain, Monkey, and I will do one for you right now.
Wishing you so much luck with your job hunt Jenna. Really feel for you, I went through a long period of unemployment some years ago, so demoralising, but something will come through in the end, it really will, hang in there Xxxxx
All cardboard boxes that come to my house get tossed on the floor for cat inspection….then hang around until destroyed. Can’t beat not having to put them away right away, free cat toy, PLUS awdoarble antics!!! 🙂
We call ours “The Wave”. When playing tag it is home base. When playing romp it is base point from which Nicodemus is retrieved, run through the house and tossed on a bed. At which point he races back through the house to base point to start the game all over again. Sometimes it is the port-o-cat so he can be carried through his domain. And sometimes it’s just a very fine spot to sprawl on. Long live “The Wave”.
Hahaha, I totally just bought my kitties one of these the other day. My siamese, Coconut, LOVES it and sleeps in it every night. Cardboard truly is a wondrous material!
Pet2nya likes some boxes, but not others. Not the one that I put her sleeping pad in, but loves the small one, the kitten size one, the one that’s as long and wide as a sheet of paper. (She’s an 11 pound fluffy–cat)
I always did wonder why cats love cardboard so much. Our Larry abandoned the cat bed in favor of a cardboard shoebox, which he continued to use up until he passed.
Oh, this is lovely. Puck remains my favourite of the boys. He’s a black kitty with white trim, like our Ninja, and he’s such an affectionate wee beast.
Ninja has a couple of scratching pads we made her by cutting boxes into 2″ strips and rolling them into a circle pad, with gaffer tape securing them at the bottom. We sprinkled in catnip at first, that was a great success. Anyway, the boxes hung around for a while before we got around to cutting them up, and of course she played in them, so then we felt awful about cutting up her little fort. Only cats can make you feel so guilty about building them a plaything. They’re not her primary designated scratching areas, the cat trees get more use, but it’s all part of having the home properly furnished for her, and she gives them a diligent scratch from time to time. I’ll have to dig out the photos of her sitting happily on them like a little queen.
The shelter where i volunteer is inundated with donations of those cardboard scratchers (‘Emery Cat’ they’re called here), and, to date, i have never met a cat that uses them. Puck is special indeed!
Dear girl: I worry that not all is well with the ear infection of the toddler since there is no new strip today … all good wishes go out to you, your family and of course the cats.

Its international cat day today http://www.telegraph.co.uk/lifestyle/pets/11791716/International-Cat-Day-felines-take-over-the-internet-even-more-than-usual.html
OMG, how much do I love the memo!
Totally stealing that!
NOPE – I burst out laughing and startled my dachshunds! Oh, Puck, you are always prepared. Love the scrunched note, twitchy tail, and disgruntled expression on His Excellency’s face. LOL!!
OMG! I am sure that is want they say. Love it.
Well played, Puck. Well played.
*cryinglauging* at “I gt a memo on that”.
This is just hilarious! Thanks for sharing your cat adventures–I really look forward to them.
This is why we buy three of anything we get fir the kitties in our news coverage area.
Same!
It helps sometimes, but at other times it just means one of the cats has three toys and the other two still have zero.
Yep.
2 cats in house = 3 of everything “cat”.
Which they will usually ignore…
I can’t stop swooning either! poor Elvis, but I sure wish I could do that to some of the memos I get too. Thanks for the belly laugh today!
Love Lupin’s tip-of-tail wiggle and facial expression. Definitely not pleased with Elvis. Someone needs to watch out for payback…
I think you’re confused. Puck is hogging the couch, Elvis is ticked off, and Lupin is stuck back in the newsroom.
Kitty Brudge becomes Kitty Couch? Love Puck’s definitive NOPE.
that is soooooo funny!!! Thanks again for making us laugh with the boys antics! My Minnie loves her cardboard to scratch!
No fights? You only got one. What were you thinking? Three cats equals three new lounging boxes.
NOPE
One of my guys LOVES cardboard too–especially sprinkled with catnip! : )

I love Elvis and his twitchy tail!
Another fabulous strip! Loving Puckie as always! I got a MEMO! OMG…totally laughing!!!!!! Thanks, Georgia!
To Pamwheatfree! My thoughts too! Another lovely comic!
Oh, good heavens, I laughed at the NOPE! Good thing my meeting is on break.

HAHAHA!!!
Well done, Puck. Clearly well prepared for Elvis and his reports
Elvis needs to play a NOPE card of his own to turn Puck’s NOPE into a YUP. (Sorry, “Exploding Kittens” game reference….)
So, so adorable!
I laughed out loud reading your comment! Exploding Kittens is such a fun game #nokittensareharmedintheplayingofthisgame
Heh! My box of Exploding Kittens arrived last week and we played at a family party over the weekend! Fun!
Puck is adorable. I have a feeling that memo won’t be the last word on the subject for Elvis. 🙂
you are killing me!! this is awesome
NOPE

Thank you so much, Moll Cat!
All fingers and paws crossed for you x
is NOPE Pucky’s fav word?
He did a NOPE escape from The Big Cardboard Box of Doom.
Love Puck’s memo!! Always important to be prepared.
All cardboard boxes that come to my house get tossed on the floor for cat inspection….then hang around until destroyed. Can’t beat not having to put them away right away, free cat toy, PLUS awdoarble antics!!! 🙂
NOPE, just like the cards from Exploding Kittens!
I love it! <3

Oh how funny!! I should not be laughing this loudly at almost 2am, but I can’t help it. *giggling madly at Elvis’s ears*
I was so happy to see this just now!!! Love the entire script. Lupin, wake up and check out the kewl kouch!!
I’m jealous. My can never likes ANYTHING I buy for him, so I’ve given up on that. SIGH.
Err, cat.
I always did wonder why cats love cardboard so much. Our Larry abandoned the cat bed in favor of a cardboard shoebox, which he continued to use up until he passed.
Is Puck purring his tail off? Heehee.
Your cats and their cuteness!
I CANNOT RESIST!
It’s worse than pursuing my nemesis around a nebula …
What a coincidence… I am actually watching Star Trek as I read your comment!

Only one couch?? No wonder their fighting for prime real estate !!
: )
The shelter where i volunteer is inundated with donations of those cardboard scratchers (‘Emery Cat’ they’re called here), and, to date, i have never met a cat that uses them. Puck is special indeed!
The Emery ones are awful, but the plain non coated ones are favourites of many cats
He played the NOPE card from Exploding Kittens! WOOT!

Dyin’ over panel 8!
